ACO KerbDrain Splay Product Overview Introduction to ACO KerbDrain Splay Throughout the world, the ACO brand is recognised as a leading supplier in the design, development and manufacture of surface water drainage solutions. An extensive product portfolio offers the market quality solutions for every application, from light domestic to heavy duty use. The ACO Group has been manufacturing and selling market leading drainage products for over 40 years. During this time the Group has grown to a turnover of well over 400m, with trading companies in 28 countries on four continents. ACO KerbDrain has been developed from this wealth of expertise. An award winning combined kerb and drainage system specifically designed for carriageways, roundabouts, local road schemes, car parking and many other highway applications. In 200 ACO KerbDrain was awarded the Queen s Award for Enterprise: Innovation. Manufactured from polymer concrete, the ACO KerbDrain system is tough and robust with excellent chemical resistance. Proven site performance is backed up by the ACO KerbDrain system being fully independently tested, CE marked and certified to BS EN 433:2002 Load Class D 400. The system is also compliant with the Specification for Highway Works Clause 56 which mandates Load Class D 400 for combined kerb and drainage systems (Load Class C 250 only applies where the products are protected from direct traffic loads e.g. located behind safety barriers). The ACO KerbDrain family which includes mm, 305mm and 480mm deep systems has now been extended with the introduction of a new mm deep 45º Splay compact highway system. This new range called ACO KerbDrain Splay, is designed for use on rural highway applications and road schemes where it s more compact dimensions make it an extremely cost effective drainage solution. The product has a 45º splayed front profile to match standard OPC kerb stones manufactured to BS EN 340:2003. ACO KerbDrain Splay benefits from a wide range of complementary accessories consisting of drop kerbs, centre stones, access units and gullies. This enables ACO KerbDrain Splay to be used as a stand alone system or by the use of transition units (listed on page 5) can be integrated directly into ACO KerbDrain 305 drainage schemes, allowing continuous water flow between the two ranges. The one piece construction of the system and the lightweight properties of polymer concrete ensure the ACO KerbDrain Splay system is quick and easy to install. Whether you are installing products manually or mechanically to meet the HSE guidelines for kerb laying, the ACO KerbDrain Splay system provides a solution with the main units supplied in either mm or 000mm lengths. 2 ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS All materials used in the manufacture and packaging of this system are 00% recyclable. In using the latest finite element analysis design packages, ACO have ensured minimum materials have been used for maximum performance. By minimising the amount of material used in the manufacture of this system, the environmental impact is kept to a minimum. Not only has the product been developed with the environment in mind, the whole packaging and distribution of the product has been optimised to help meet your sustainable construction targets. The lightweight design not only aids installation but reduces carbon emission linked with the transportation of this product. ACO KerbDrain Splay 000 and mm units

Applications Rural highways Pedestrian and vehicular crossings Changing highway conditions ACO KerbDrain Splay is ideal for general carriageway drainage, where traditionally kerbstones and road gullies would be used. By combining the drainage function with the kerbstone, ACO KerbDrain Splay not only provides an efficient cost effective drainage solution, but has the added benefit of removing ironwork from the carriageway which can be a common point of failure in heavily trafficked areas and a safety risk to cyclists. Being a linear drainage product ACO KerbDrain Splay is also ideal for removing surface water run off in problem areas such as camber changes or cross fall transition points, reducing hazards associated with ponding and streaming. Where a continuous drainage system is required across pedestrian crossings and vehicle access points, a range of drop kerbs and centre stones are available. If a half battered kerb profile is required at pedestrian crossings the ACO KerbDrain Splay system can be linked via transition units to the full ACO KerbDrain 305 range of accessories. For details of the ACO KerbDrain 305 range please refer to the ACO KerbDrain brochure. For highway applications where the kerb profile needs to change from 45º splay to half battered and back again, such as alongside footpaths or at the approaches to urban areas, continuous drainage systems can be created by combining ACO KerbDrain Splay with the half battered profile of ACO KerbDrain 305 by the simple use of transition units. 3 SYSTEM BENEFITS Compact design reduces installation costs Minimal impact on buried services 45 splay profile matches kerbs to BS EN 340:2003 Tough impact resistant design One piece construction means no separate parts to bed and level Simple and easy to install Suitable for manual or mechanical installation Installation rates of up to 200m per day Integrates with ACO KerbDrain 305 drainage schemes High chemical resistance to salts, hydrocarbons, antifreeze and a wide range of other road pollutants Removes ironwork from the carriageway reducing potential failure points and hazards to motorists Fully compliant with the Specification for Highways Works Clause 56 Independently CE marked and certified to BS EN 433:2002 Load Class D 400

Hydraulics summary The ACO KerbDrain Splay hydraulic capacities are given below, tabulated for various channel lengths and longitudinal slopes. Values for other lengths and slopes may be interpolated. The columns for maximum catchment area (A m²) are based on a design rainfall intensity of 50mm/h. ACO KerbDrain Splay drop kerbs and centre stones will restrict the flow, so an outfall before a drop kerb may sometimes be required. Installation details ACO KerbDrain Splay has been specifically developed to be simple and cost effective to install. A typical installation detail is shown below. The customer should ensure that the minimum dimensions shown are suitable for the existing ground conditions. Engineering advice may be required.
