Product Release Product The electric gun precisely dispenses bead of hot melt adhesive at exceptionally high speeds. This gun was specifically designed for use in highspeed applications requiring beads of adhesive, such as cigarette tax stamps and couponing and small carton flap sealing. Driven by an electric gun driver (usually the driver), the gun provides all-electric actuation, eliminating the need for compressed air. The driver optimizes gun performance and application versatility. The driver is equipped with a PC interface allowing users to easily program settings by entering application requirements directly from a computer to the driver. Electrical quick-disconnects speed installation and servicing, as does the gun's quick-change heater and sensor. The resistance temperature detection sensor provides precise temperature measurement. The Nordson gun system will include the following: electric gun nozzle driver with programming kit or LA4400 pattern control Cabling These parts are sold separately, but are all required for system operation. Multi-module guns are not included in this initial release. They will be developed with the e.bead gun project. If multi-module guns are immediately needed, please contact Eric Lingier - applications engineering, Erkrath, Germany. Objectives The gun provides customers with the high speed, precise bead application and long service life that is required in certain high-end packaging markets. Driver
Benefits, Target Markets page 2 Benefits Small work envelope allows the gun to fit easily into OEM machinery External gun driver bead control allows for easy real-time bead adjustments, minimizing set-up time for demanding applications Nozzles are easily interchangeable Closed hot melt extrusion system replaces slow, messy cold adhesive extrusion or hot or cold wheel pot systems Target Markets Tobacco markets Cigarette tax stamps Couponing with beads Packaging markets Small carton primary packaging and carton closing (in-line) Small carton flap sealing Pharmaceutical small pack tamper-resistant packaging Graphic arts / PPC Tipping In-line manufacturing of specialty folding cartons Sales Message The electric gun is a compact, high speed, precision hot melt adhesive gun to be used in demanding high-end gluing applications requiring beads of adhesive. It should be sold as a complete system consisting of (1) an gun, (2) a nozzle, (3) driver, and (4) cabling.
Differentiation from Similar Nordson Equipment Differentiation from Similar Nordson Equipment The gun is the only Nordson product that meets high-speed bead adhesive application requirements for customers. guns should not be used for dot application. Use e.dot for this instead. Older type electric guns cannot deliver comparable high-frequency bead performance and are not as compact as the gun. When used with an LA4400 pattern control or multi-box e driver, the is a plug and play solution. Other Nordson electric guns must be hardwired to their drivers. page 3 At line speeds up to 45.72 m/min (150 fpm), the gun and the e.dot gun are comparable in terms of accurate dot placement. However, at line speeds exceeding 45.72 m/min (150 fpm), the e.dot gun is the preferred product for dot application. In applications requiring both beads and dotting, the gun is preferable, as the e.dot gun should not be used for beads.
