1 Remove wheel covers on steel disk wheels. 2 Slcken wheel bolts. 3 Rise vehicle. 4 Unscrew wheel bolts. When unscrewing the finl wheel bolt be sure tht the wheel does not suddenly tilt off the hub. 5 Remove wheel. M Five of the stndrd wheel bolts removed must be retined for the spre wheel. The stndrd production spre wheel cn be used s temporry spre wheel. A mximum speed of 80 km/h is permissible due to the chnge in hndling chrcteristics resulting from different tire rolling circumferences nd wheel offsets. For this purpose, the stndrd production spre wheel is to be identified with the enclosed uxiliry sticker (H WA201 584 04 39). Replce the temporry spre wheel with stndrd wheel s soon s possible. B. Modifictions to the chssis In conjunction with 17-inch AMG disk wheels, the front xle compression trvel on ll vehicle models must be reduced in order to ensure dequte clernce under extreme wheel compression. 1 Detch front wheels. (Refer to section A). 2 Use spring clmp 124 589 06 31 00 to clmp nd remove front xle springs. M Do not use impct screwdrivers to clmp front xle springs. 3 Unscrew front xle dmper strut t upper dmper strut mounting (6) whilst stedying the piston rod. 4 Lower control rm nd dmper strut (support control rm). 5 Instll spring trvel limiting wsher (5) on piston rod (1) over stop buffer (4). 6 Assemble dmper strut nd front xle spring in reverse sequence. Use new self-locking nuts (9) nd wsher (8) on the upper dmper strut mounting. (Tightening torque 60 Nm). C. Modifictions to the body 1 Adjusting the front fender 1.1 Detch side pnel on the front fender from the fixing elements, pull to the rer nd remove. 1.4 Press the side prt of the bumper downwrds nd unscrew the bolts for fender fixing (A nd B). Clmp spcer between fender nd body on the left nd the right. The bore holes must lign to permit troublefree fixing. 1.5 Plce one spcer on the left nd right between the fender nd body in the side re of the bumper. 1.6 Tighten ll bolts slightly in ccordnce with lyout. Tighten bolts fter visul inspection. 2 Reworking the body t the front fenders 2.1 Flttening down front fender flnge: When converting to wider wheels nd tyres the inside edges of the front fender must be flttened down to n ngle of 110 over the complete wheel cutout. 2.2 If excessive PVC underbody protection hs been pplied, grind off excess before folding bck the fender flnge. 2.3 Using hot ir gun crefully het up outer edges of fender to mximum of 70-80 C. 2.4 In the mrked re (A), the fender flnge is flttened down up to the inside of the fender in severl stges. A plstic hmmer must be used to void dmging the pint. 2.5 Flring out the front fender: Using plstic hmmer, pply even blows to flre out the edge of the front fender by 25 in the upper re. Reference dimension t the uppermost point of the wheel cutout: t lest 275 mm mesured over the center of the wheel below the edge of the wheel cutout nd outer tube of the shock bsorber strut. 2.6 Allow front fender flre to curve smoothly bck towrds originl, unflred line within the mrked re (B). Rectify ny dmge to pint or underbody protection. 2.7 Grind off side pnel to mtch the reworked fender contour nd ssemble. 3 Reworking the body inside the wheel rches 3.1 Slcken the two bolts of the windscreen wsher continer on the right side. Tie up continer so tht it is not dmged when driving out the wheel rch. Slcken ABS hydrulic unit nd hydrulic fluid continer on the left side nd tie up. 3.2 Using plstic hmmer drive out wheel rch over n re of pprox. 150 mm x 150 mm (A) pprox. 10 mm towrds the inside of engine comprtment. 3.3 Remove weld stud (B) for fixing the inner fender nd replce by blind rivet with lrge swge-hed. 3.4 Tret wheel rch gin with underbody protection. 4.1 124 Sedn/coupé Instlling n ngled sheet metl prt: Remove side covers in luggge comprtment. Free the side wll from wx nd seling compound in the re shown. Sw side wll long length of 200 mm nd extend outwrds by 20 mm. Apply primer to ngled sheet metl prt (33 x 10 x 1 x 200 mm) nd weld in using MAG welder (plug weld). Grind off weld, then pply primer nd sel with body seling compound. Cot with PVC underbody protection. Due to the enlrged rer production wheelhouse inner pnels, the use of n ngled brcket s described in 4.1 is not necessry on model 124.061 (300CE-24 Cbrio). 4.2 124 T-model Instlling sheet metl strip: Remove spre wheel nd jck from luggge comprtment. Free the wheel rch from wx nd seling compound in the re shown. Sw wheel rch long length of 200 mm, 30 mm prllel to outer body contour nd extend outwrds by 15 mm. Apply primer to sheet metl strip nd weld in from the wheel rch side using MAG welder (plug weld). Grind off weld, then pply primer nd sel with body seling compound. Cot with PVC underbody protection. 5 Folding bck the edge of rer fender 5.1 If excessive PVC underbody protection hs been pplied, grind off excess before folding bck the edge of the fender. 5.2 Using hot ir gun crefully het up outer edges of fender to mximum of 70-80 C. 5.3 In the mrked re (A), the edge of the fender is flttened down s fr s the inside of the fender in severl stges. A plstic hmmer must be used to void dmging the pint. Rectify ny dmge to pint or underbody protection. 5.4 Tret wheel rch gin with underbody protection. Spry the folded bck fender edges with body cvity preservtion. D. Fitting the specil wheels 1 Screw centering bolts (tool kit) into upper tpped hole of the wheel hub. 2 Put on AMG light lloy wheel nd press onto wheel hub. 3 Screw in wheel bolts nd tighten positively. The wheel bolts must be dry nd free from grese. Ensure tht the wheels re not tensioned by tightening the wheel bolts on one side. (Tighten wheel bolts digonlly in severl stges). M Wheel no. C740 0098: Only M12_1.5_33 mm sphericl collr bolts supplied with the wheels re to be used for the wheel fixing. M Wheel no. H WA124 400 19 02: Only M12_1.5_40 mm sphericl collr bolts supplied with the wheels re to be used for the wheel fixing. 4 Unscrew centering bolt nd replce by wheel bolt. 5 Lower vehicle. 6 Evenly tighten wheel bolts digonlly to tightening torque of 110 Nm. M AMG light lloy wheel bolts must be retightened fter 100-500 km. (Tightening torque 110 Nm). For resons of sfety nd stndrdized ppernce, wheel no. C7 40 0098 nd wheel no. H WA124 400 19 02 must not be mixed but only fitted to the vehicle in sets. E. Tire infltion pressure/tire mkes/using snow chins 1 The tire infltion pressure is to be djusted in ccordnce with the production tire infltion pressure plte in the gs tnk flp. 2 Recommended tire mkes cn be obtined from the current Service Informtion "Summer tires in conjunction with AMG specil equipment nd AMG light lloy wheels from the ccessory rnge". 3 Fitting snow chins in conjunction with the AMG wheel/tire combintion is not permitted. Speedometer correction By contrst with stndrd production tyres the rolling circumference of retrofitted tyres is in rnge which necessittes checking nd correcting the speedometer clibrtion if required.
