Sporvejshistorisk Selskab / the Danish Tram Historical Society was founded on 8 February 1965. The purpose of the Society is to extend knowledge of public transport in an non-political, idealistic manner The Society's many activities includes: Preservation and restoration of trams and equipment Research into urban and traffic history Publication of books, etc. Publication of the bimonthly periodical "BYtrafik". Members meetings in Copenhagen, Odense and Aarhus Journeys for members to tramway cities abroad 2

The Society has about 1250 members, who have many interests, including: Traffic history Modern public transport Tram services / Urban railways Trolley and bus services Types of trams and buses Tickets At the time of the Society's foundation, the transition from trams to buses was already in full swing in Copenhagen. 3

Right from the inaugural meeting, the idea of preserving and restoring the fast-disappearing trams was conceived, so that future generations might be able to see and experience the old trams Since 1965, the Society has managed to acquire more than 100 trams, trolley buses and petrol/diesel buses. Some of them are used to restore other items, while others are running or displayed at The Tram Museum Skjoldenæsholm 4

Many European cities possess tramway systems Usually twice or three times a year, the Danish Tram Historical Society arranges a trip for its members to one of such tram cities. Visits to depots are arranged, and there is often a sightseeing tour with a special kind of tram The Society also arranges journeys to other tram museums, where members can meet people, who share their interests In general 15 to 40 members are joining the trips 10

Where is the Tram Museum? The museum is located between the towns of Roskilde and Ringsted, about 65 kilometres southwest of Copenhagen. 15

Traffic weekends On the museum's woodland stretch, the trams run at five minute intervals. You will be able to see many of the Tramway Museum's different trams in operation 25

Evening atmosphere Twice in the course of the season, the Tramway Museum stays open until 10.00 pm. When it gets dark the tram lights are turned on, and you can see how the coloured lamps distinguish the individual lines.

Evening atmosphere The Copenhagen Astronomical Society invites the museum's guests on a trip through the Universe with telescopes and computers. 27

Depot jazz concert Last Sunday in August a yearly big band jazz concert is given in the depot. The repertoire consists of swing music and golden age jazz from the 30s and 40s, with a few Danish numbers. 28

Rent a tram Groups of 16-18 people can rent a tram, which can serve as a "base" while visiting the museum. The trams are equipped with tables, and a tram driver will take you out into the forest. 29

Be a tram driver Under expert guidance, you can try your hand at driving a tram. When you have finished the ride, you will get a diploma. You drive from the stop and out into the museum's woodland - a stretch of almost 2 km. 30

Horse tram and horse omnibus The Tramway Museum can offer guests a ride on a horse tram and horse omnibus. For practical reasons, however, this can only be done on selected days in the season. The last horse tram ran in 1915, and the last horse omnibus ran in Copenhagen in 1917. 31

Christmas at the Tramway Museum In December, you can experience a real Christmas atmosphere at the Museum. 32

The vintage bus trip From the stop near the depots is a vintage bus waiting for taking you on a trip. 35

The vintage bus trip The trip is going around the Valsølille Lake, through the wonderful historic area. The bus driver will tell you about the bus and the area. The trip takes about 20 minutes. 36

The Night of Culture in Copenhagen During the last 14 years buses from the museum have been in service in the City of Copenhagen starting from the Town Square. -This year (2016) 9 buses will be in operation 37

Rent a vintage bus You can rent a vintage bus from the Tram Museum for birthdays, weddings, company events, films, etc. We can transport you around the Tram Museum area, or across most of Zealand. 39

Collection today about 90 trams, 3 trolleybuses and about 45 vintage buses, of which 25 trams, 1 trolleybus and 20 buses are approved for passenger running resp. Are on license plates for public use. Tramway Museum Skjoldenæsholm is a Danish based international tram museum with today about 25.0000 annual visitors. The new street/shop scene scenario is expected to attract a wider range of visitors.
