We advise to read carefully this manual, paying attention to the recommendations indicated, which fulfill the directives of the CEE about machines. The wrong utilization or manipulation of the product supplied by Bombas Omega invalidates the responsibility of our company for the possible damages caused, either material or personal damages. We recommend to have this manual near the point of installation to be consulted by the user. It is necessary to pay attention to the following symbols, which appear in several pages of this manual. Danger of mechanical origin Danger of electric origin In case of any doubt or advice about this manual, you can contact us in: BOMBAS OMEGA S.L. Polígono Industrial El Campillo, Pabellón 10B 48500, ABANTO, VIZCAYA, ESPAÑA Tno. 94 636 35 10, Fax 94 636 35 01 e mail: bombas01@bombasomega.com SERIES AND UTILIZATION! This manual, with the special conditions for each model, is for the following series: SERIES HC: Horizontal for loaded fluids SERIES VCS: Vertical for loaded fluids SERIES VCC: Vertical for loaded fluids, cardan starting up SERIES VC: Well vertical for loaded fluids SERIES BN: Horizontal, DIN 24255 for clean fluids SERIES HK: Horizontal, multistages, for clean fluids SERIES HCP: Horizontal, split case, for clean fluids SERIES VCP: Vertical, split case, for clean fluids SERIES HOG: Horizontal, gummed, for abrasive fluids SERIES VOG: Vertical, gummed, for abrasive fluids 3 INSTALLATION HORIZONTAL SERIES HC/BN/HK/HCP/HOG 3.1 ANCHORAGE AND BALANCING The anchoring base of the pumps will be placed on a foundation of concrete of suitable dimensions. Install the anchoring base of the pump on the foundation, which has to remain completely smooth. Balance the anchoring base and if it is necessary, use calipers (metallic supplements). 2 3

Once the anchoring base is placed, fill the font-cases of the anchor bolts, wait for the plotted one of the concrete and verify the balancing again. The discharge pipe must have a check valve installed to absorb the water hammer that could be produced. If high points exist in the discharge pipe, it is necessary to install in those ones a few air valves (air purgers), to eliminate the air pockets that can appear. The suction and discharge pipes must be supported by external supports to avoid their weight gravitating on the flanges of the pump. Never use the pump to support the pipes of the installation. The pipes must be perfectly lined up with the flanges of the pump to avoid efforts on them. If these efforts are excessive, they can get the coupling of the pump out of line. As guiding information, we give the effort average admissible in the flanges of the pumps. 3.2 ALIGNMENT OF THE MOTOR-PUMP GROUP Once the motor-pump group is placed on the foundation, the alignment of the coupling must be checked as we indicate : TABLE OF ADMISSIBLE EFFORTS ON THE FLANGES SIZE MAX. TORQUE (Nm) 3.3 SUCTION PIPES They must be installed according to the following drawing: FLANGE (Nm) DN Mz Mx My 32 280 250 250 40 350 300 300 50 380 340 340 65 400 370 370 80 430 390 390 100 480 420 420 125 620 500 500 150 680 590 590 200 1000 880 880 250 1300 1200 1200 300 1800 1600 1600 350 2400 2000 2000 Once the pipes are installed, recheck again the alignment of the couplings. The pipes must fulfill the following requirements: The suction pipe must be, at least, of a higher size to the orifice of the pump. It must always be installed with ascending sense towards the pump, with slope between 2 % and 3 %. The cone of connection between the suction pipe and the pump suction must be eccentric. When the pump works in suction, a proper foot valve must be installed submerged enough to avoid the air entry by means of vortex formation! MECHANICAL DANGER Once the alignment is verified, and before starting the group up, assemble the protections of the coupling. Do not start without having them installed. 4 5

3.4 VERTICAL SERIES VCS/VCP INSTALLATION All the points of paragraph 3 can be applied and we show drawing of the anchoring of each serie. 3.6 INSTALLATION SERIES VERTICAL VC/VOG All the points of paragraph 3 are applied with the following drawings of installation: 3.5 VERTICAL SERIES VCC INSTALLATION All the points of paragraph 3 can be applied, as well as the anchoring drawing of series VCS (point 3.4). The main characteristic of this serie is the operation, which is made through a cardan transmission. Once the pump is anchored, it is necessary to install the proper rigid couplings in the pump shaft and in the motor shaft. For the installation of the cardan transmission follow the following instructions: 3.5.1 Verify the correct concentricity and warping of fastening flanges. their fields of tolerance depend on the speed of working but this tolerance must never be higher than 0,1 mm. 3.5.2.Check that the connecting flanges and the flange yokes of the transmission do not have impacts and are free of dirt. 3.5.3. Complete the greasing of the Universal Joints and the spline. 3.5.4.Check that the end yokes are in the same plane and that the markings arrows of balancing are aligned. As the cardan transmission is balanced as an integrated whole, components of different cardan transmissions may not be interchangeable. Balance plates should not be removed. 3.5.5.Use short-thread bolts DIN 931/2.9 with self locking nuts DIN 980/10, or hexagonal nuts with Glover gaskets for the joining of the sections of the cardan transmission. 3.5.6.Verify that the position of the shaft of the electrical motor (placed in an upper plane) and the position of the pump VCC do not cause in the cardan transmission, an angle of deviation higher than 3º. 3.5.7.Verify the total length, in working position, of the cardan transmission from the front of the rigid coupling of the electrical motor and the front of the rigid coupling of the pump VCC. 3.5.8.Verify the perfect alignment of the shaft of the bearings boxes, which support the fixed sections of the cardan transmission. 3.5.9.Once the cardan transmission is assembled in its definitive emplacement and when the bearing boxes of the fixed sections are properly installed, THE BEARINGS MUST BE UNBLOCKED, to leave the shafts of the transmission turn freely. In these series it is very important to make a perfect balancing and to avoid efforts on the discharge flange 1 and 2. In flange 2, no effort is admitted on it. In the type of execution with flange 1, the maximum admissible efforts on the flange are the indicated ones in the following table. SIZE MAX. TORQUE FLANGE Mz Mx My 50 300 340 340 65 340 370 370 80 350 380 380 100 380 430 430 125 460 560 560 150 550 630 630 200 700 800 800 250 950 1100 1100 6 7

4 STARTING UP AND STOP 4.1 PRIMMING OF THE SERIES HC/VCS/VCC/BN/HK/HCP/VCP/HOG 4.1.1 The gate valve of the discharge must be closed. 4.1.2. If the pump works in charge, it is necessary to open totally the gate valve of the suction pipe and wait until the suction pipe and the pump casing are full up with the fluid to pump. As per the series, eliminate the possible air pocket through a draining cap or similar. 4.1.3. If the pump works suctioning, it will have to wear a foot valve installed in the suction pipe. To feed the pump, follow one of the following points: a) Full the suction pipe and the pump casing through an external source of feed of fluid connected to the priming orifice and eliminate the air as per point 4.1.2 b) Communicate the suction and discharge pipes through a by-pass and if the discharge pipe is full of fluid, full the suction pipe and the pump casing.. c) Use auxiliary vacuum equipments, for instance an ejector operated through air/water, a vacuum pump, etc... 4.2.5 In the pumps with packing, turn the shaft manually to verify that the stuffing box is not excessively tight. While working, it is normal that the stuffing box drips slightly, if the dripping is excessive, press lightly the stuffing box; if on the contrary, the dripping does not exist or there is an abnormal warming in the zone of stuffing box, loosen until it drips properly. Check that the protections of mobile zones are properly installed. 4.2.6 Verify that the sense of turn of the electrical motor is the necessary one. 4.2.7 When the closing water supply is necessary in the zone of the packing, verify that there is the proper pressure in the circuit of supply(approximately 0,5 Kg/cm2 over the existing pressure in the zone of the packing).! MECHANICAL DANGER 4.1.4 It is convenient to turn with the hand, when the electrical motor is disconnected, the shaft of the pump while it is fed in order to avoid any air pocket in the pump casing. Before and after starting up, place again the protections of the mobile parts. 4.1.5 When the pump is fed, it is necessary to verify that there is not any fluid escapes neither in the pump nor in the pipes. The series VC and VOG do not need to be fed. It is just necessary that the pump casing is submerged enough in the fluid in order to avoid the vortex and the air entry through it. 4.2 STARTING UP OF THE PUMP 4.2.1 Confirm that the voltage in the line is the same to the one indicated in the electrical motor. Check the correct connection of the electrical motor as per the starting up system, direct or delta/star. ELECTRICAL DANGER 4.2.2 Before making the connection of the electrical motor, verify that the electrical parts which are manipulated, are not still connected to the electrical network. ELECTRICAL DANGER 4.2.3 The cables of ground connection (yellow - green color) must be connected to the circuit of grand of the installation, before connecting the rest of the conductive cables. 4.2.8 When there is a circuit of cooling, the passage of water will be opened to verify that there are not obstacles along the whole circuit. 4.2.9 Start the pump. Once we have verified that the pump is fed, the gate valve of the suction open and the gate valve or suction adjustment closed. 4.2.10 Once the pump is started and turning to its correct nominal speed, it is necessary to open slowly the discharge valve of the pump, until reaching the proper flow, with the proper pressure. After this, verify that the electrical consumption does not exceed the indicated one in the plate of the electrical motor. 4.2.11 Avoid, as much as possible, a long working of the pump with the discharge valve closed, or without flow, because it could cause heatings, brushes or tightenings. 4.3 PUMP STOP 4.3.1 Close the discharge valve of the discharge pipe and the passage key of the vacuum gage of the suction size (if it exists) 4.3.2 Stop the electric motor, always following the instructions of the manufacturer, checking that the shaft of the pump keeps on turning during few seconds without tightening 4.3.3 Close the supply of the close fluid in the pumps which require that, except in those special installations (for instance condensates which receive the discharge fluid with no load) when even being the pump stopped, it must receive fluid in the seal 4.3.4 Close the supply of cooling water in those installations which use it. 4.2.4 In the pumps with mechanical seal installed, the pump casing must be full of fluid, before verifying the turn sense, in order to avoid the work in dry of the mechanical seal.! MECHANICAL DANGER 8 9

5 MAINTENANCE The shaft of the pumps is assembled over the bearings, over measured, which can be lubricated with grease or oil. 5.1 GREASE LUBRICATION When the bearings are lubricated with grease, they are lubricated from factory. After 200 working hours, it is necessary to add a small quantity of additional grease (not too much to avoid the bearings heating). The grease of lubrication, must be updated, as much as possible, between 3000 and 4000 working hours. The temperature of the bearings, while they are working, must not exceed 90ºC It is convenient to dismantle the bearings and clean the accumulated grease of the grooves every 10.000 working hours. The grease used must be based on lithium and with additives of extreme pressure (EP), compatible with graphite and with molybdenum but not compatible with greases based on sodium or calcium. In some cases the pumps are provided with bearings, greased for life. In these cases it is not necessary to make any maintenance. 5.2 OIL LUBRICATION The pumps with the bearings lubricated with oil are lubricated for the 200 first working hours. After that, the bearings grooves must be refilled with the proper oil between the maximum and minimum levels. The total renovation of the oil must be made every 10.000 hours, refilling in the meanwhile to avoid that the oil level does not fall the minimum level indicated All the bearings, the ones lubricated with grease and the ones lubricated with oil are protected by few retainers (nitrile, neoprene, viton, etc),which have a double function, one is to seal the box avoiding leaks of oil, and the other one is to avoid the entry of strange solids in the bearings box. The working temperature of the bearings must not exceed the 100ºC. We give an orientation of some brands of grease and oil suitable for the lubrication of the bearings : 5.4.1 Loosen and remove completely the packing gland, remove the packing and clean the cashier. Check the sleeve or the surface of the shaft in touch with the above mentioned packing. 5.4.2 If the pump is completely disassembled, repair the marks of the sleeve or the surface of the shaft, due to brush with the packing. If the marks are very deep, change the damaged pieces. 5.4.3 The strips of packing, must be cut in their end in bevel 45 º. It is possible to use a pipe of equal diameter to the diameter of the shaft or the sleeve in order to verify the correct length of the strips. 5.4.4 It is convenient to place the grillage in V of the packing against the sense of rotation of the pump shaft. 5.4.5 The cuts or unions of the different rings of packing must remain turned 90 º or 120 º between them, around the shaft of the pump. 5.4.6 If the pump takes a fake lantern ring with strips of packing before and after this one, it must be placed in its correct position and place the proper strips on both sides of the ring above mentioned. 5.4.7 Every strip of packing will be assembled separately, tightening each of them softly with the packing gland, against the last strip assembled previously. TYPE GREASE OIL BP LS-EP2 GR 125 EP CEPSA LITION 2EP HP 2 ESSO BEACON2EP SP EP68 MOBIL LERITAL 2 LISSUR 627 SHELL ALVANIA OMALA 68 5.3 COUPLING When we find any wear of the elastic part of the coupling, it is necessary to proceed immediately to its substitution. Check if there is deterioration of the metallic parts, in order to substitute them, if necessary. To extract the couplings of its shaft, always use an extractor, never hit the coupling 5.4 PACKING In the pumps equipped with packing, before starting the motor, we must loosen the packing gland lightly. It will produce a light dripping. If this dripping is excessive, it may be necessary to change the packing. When the packing is replaced, it is necessary to do it completely, as per the following steps: 5.5 MECHANICAL SEAL The mechanical seal to use is determined as per the characteristics of the fluid (chemical attack, specific weight, viscosity, abrasive character etc.) and the peripheral speed, pressure, temperature, etc. For this reason, it is important to inform about all this data to our technical department in order to facilitate the selection THE MECHANICAL SEAL MUST NEVER WORK IN DRY, BECAUSE ITS DETERIORATION WOULD APPEAR QUICKLY 5.6 CARDAN TRANSMISSIONS Proceed for the correct maintenance of the transmissions as per the following instructions: 5.6.1 Clean the grease-nipples beforehand 5.6.2 Apply lubrication until grease is exuded from all four bearing bushes. If it is not possible to lubricate all four bearings fully, the shaft must be dismantled. 5.6.3 For a general use, it is recommended to lubricate exclusively with lithium soap grease of NLGI-2. For special applications, consult with our technical department 5.6.4 The interval between greasing depends on the type of application and on the working conditions. It can change from one month to one year. However as a general norm, it is recommended to do it every three months. It is also necessary to lubricate the transmission in case this one gets wet with water when cleaning the working zone. 10 11

5.6.5 Always lubricate heating slightly the transmission (it will facilitate the entry of the grease). 5.6.6 Each time we lubricate, check the set of universal joints and the spline shaft as well as the grip of the fixing bolts. 5.6.7 Be on the constant look out for unusual noises or vibrations. 5.6.8 In case of repair or substitution of some element or modification of the transmission, it is necessary to balance again. 5.7 PREVENTIVE CONTROL To improve the duration and the good working of the pumps, it is convenient to realize some preventive actions. Check the correct alignment of the motor-pump group, as well as the state of the elastic element of the coupling. Verify that the pump works in a soft way without vibrations and that the shaft turns freely. Periodically check that the conditions of service (flow, head) have not been modified since the pump was asked for. It is also convenient to check from time to time, that the electrical consumption does not overcome the intensity indicated in the rating plate of the electrical motor. The packing have to leak slightly. In case this drip is excessive, we will proceed to press the packing gland lightly. If it is not corrected, proceed to replace the packing completely. In case of mechanical seal, no kind of drip must exist. In the starting up and during some hours of working, some drip can exist until the settling of the faces of the mechanical seal Periodically verify the temperature of the grooves of the bearings. Bear in mind that an excess of grease causes an increase of the temperature. In case of auxiliary circuits for the refrigeration of the pump or some of its components, check its good working. When the pumps are stopped during the winter, with low temperatures, it is necessary to empty completely the pump casing The pumps that are stopped during long periods of time must be started up from time to time in order to avoid stiffening. The pumps must never work during a long period of time with flow zero, to avoid heatings It is necessary to reduce to the minimum the number of stops and sudden starts in order to avoid premature wears. 7 8 WORKING FAILURES FAILURES CAUSES AND (SOLUTIONS) 1. The pump does not raise water 1.1 The pump is not fed. Feed it again filling with water the pump and suction pipe, eliminate the air pocket and check the watertightness in suction pipe 2. Always store the pumps in dry places and without dust, and properly ventilated. For short periods of storage (up to 3 months) it is enough to protect the mechanized zones with an anticorrosive product or with an impregnation of grease. If the period is longer, cover the pump with the suitable protection and put the anticorrosive protection when it is necessary. In any case, every 20 days turn by hand the pump, to prevent a possible stiffening. 12 13
