About Power System Solutions mission The Power System Solutions Mission Statement To achieve customer satisfaction by providing innovative solutions to improve upon power quality, energy efficiency, and system stability. Power System Solutions (PSS) strives to provide the absolute best value in dependable power quality equipment within the industry. At PSS, our people make the difference. From production to engineering, sales through service, our committed professionals strive to exceed client expectations and project goals. Our equipment manufacturing facility is ISO- 9001 certified, with PQ projects online at low, medium and high voltage networks worldwide. Customer satisfaction is anchored with a record of reliable performance after the sale. Using data supplied by the client to our analyst, engineering mathematics are used to qualify a design recommendation, and assure the operational stability of the project under varying system conditions. 4

PSS applies stringent standards of quality control for the development of our cutting edge product lines. We design and build costeffective power quality solutions. All products manufactured by PSS are designed and assembled under ISO 9001: 2000 quality assurance system. Our products and components are Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed. Standard features and components within PSS low voltage PF capacitor banks and harmonic filter banks include: Molded main case circuit breaker The MCB is the first stage of protection within our equipment and is applied in compliance with IEC-947-2. PSS MCB s cover all ratings through 600v and 1600a, with (up to) 150 KA interrupting capacity ratings. For applications demanding an increased level in selective coordination, PSS offers MCB s with electronic trip units. MCBs can be configured with many auxiliary features and accessories. Our special purpose MCBs can include L, S, I and G protections, offering the total protection package solution: Protection from overload with inverse long time delay (L) Protection from short-time short-circuit (S) Protecton from instantaneous short-circuit (I) Protection from earth fault (G) Fusing system Fuses are the second stage of protection against faults. Each capacitor cell is protected by three-pole fuses with high interrupting capacity of at least 120 KA, 600 V, 50 Hz / 60 Hz. All LV fuses provided by PSS are NH00 and NH01 type, blade-type ferrules and class J. We also offer UL listed fuses (including miniature fuses). Zinc oxide secondary arrestor The secondary zinc oxide arrestor is available from 120V to 600V and is the third stage of protection. This device helps suppress high magnitude voltage spikes and rapid line transients/fluctuations. The arrestor is connected in parallel to the main circuit breaker and is manufactured by General Electric. Cooling system PSS uses forced air ventilation to cool and improve upon equipment life cycle. When equipment is exposed to temperatures 10 ºC (50 ºF) above rated design temperature, its life cycle can be reduced as much as 50 percent. This is graphically demonstrated below: Montsinger model Zinc oxide secondary arrestor Control potential transformer PSS capacitor banks and harmonic filters include a control potential transformer (CPT) with capacities ranging from from 100 to 2,000 volt-amperes (VA), and producing a secondary voltage of 120V. We also offer CPTs that are UL listed, and include both primary and secondary fused overcurrent protection. For example, if a bank is working at 80 ºC (176 ºF), it will last a normal life cycle. In contrast, if it is operated 10 ºC below this temperature ( 70 ºC / 158 ºF ), life expectancy doubles. Forced air cooling system Not sufficient resolution Control potential transformer 6

Digital power factor controller Our power factor controllers are manufactured by Beluk and Rockwell Automation. Controllers are microprocessor-based and capable of switching up to 12 capacitor steps. The controller monitors system parameters and alarms for PF, harmonic distortion, fault/short circuit conditions, under compensation and over compensation, among others. The controller monitors all four power quadrants from which to define and decide corrective action for any number of abnormal power system conditions. Our controllers use rotation switching technology, to ensure even wear and tear on contactors. The controller displays information Power factor controller Split-core current transformer In order for the PF Controller to perform adequately, a current transformer must be used and connected to phase A. Its polarity must match ABC rotation, otherwise erroneous data and measurements will be obtained. PSS includes a split-core current transformer in all automatically switched products. PF controller operation locally or remotely using proprietary software with network status, power flow and power quality conditions displayed. It is user-friendly and can be connected to laptops and printers to download and record measured data. Split-core current transformers 7

Iron-core reactors PSS LV reactors are manufactured to withstand up to 150 percent rated current under overload without losing linearity. Inductance balance is maintained between 1 percent and 3 percent, whereas competitors fall between an average of 5 percent to15 percent. PSS reactors are manufactured using PloyGap TM core construction. Reactors achieve balanced phase inductance with negligible gap losses, virtually eliminating stray magnetic flux. Our reactors also include an over temperature switch, allowing remote annunciation and alarm in the event the filter is overloaded. Iron-core reactor Special rated for capacitor application (Class AC4) Wide-range of accessories available Thyristor-based contactors have the following features: Unlimited electrical operations No magnetic contactors needed Avoid transient disturbances using zero crossing controls Bus compensation achieved in one cycle! Moderate KVA consumption Over temperature protected Capable of switching in a charge capacitor No capacitor discharge needed Digital control of the optimum switching angle Insensitive to phase rotation Eliminate transient switching problems Magnetic/thyristor-based contactors PSS offers either magnetic (for conventional automatic compensation) or thryristor-based contactors (for very rapid compensation design). Magnetic contactors have the following features: Rated for 200,000 electrical operations Less expensive than thyristor-based contactors Low KVA consumption Magnetic contactor 8

Single phase capacitor cells PSS uses single phase zinc metallized polypropylene cells to form three-phase DELTA or WYE arrays. They have an internal pressure-sensitive interrupter (approved by UL) to automatically disconnect a unit in the event of failure; cell bulging provides visual indication of unit malfunction. The cell itself is made of aluminum to help dissipate internal heat, with external resistor to discharge the capacitor voltage to 50V or less in one minute (as per NEC-460). Single capacitor unit 9

Power factor correction PSS TM Power Factor Correction Capacitors improve the efficiency, reliability and performance of electrical systems. For any style facility of industrial or commercial load profile, PSSTM products are well-engineered and provide economical benefits. Benefits include: Improve power system power factor Avoid or lower electrical utility penalties Increase electrical system capacity Improve voltage stability Reduce system losses Increase equipment life expectancy Whether you install power factor correction at the load, at a distribution panel or at the service entrance, PSS TM has the right solution at the right price. From fixed to automatic banks, our PFC capacitor systems are available in either standard or de-tuned configuration. Fixed capacitors PSS TM fixed power factor correction systems are used to improve the power factor of either single loads, such as induction motors, or groups of loads. Fixed capacitor banks may be permanently connected to the line feeder, or connected at the load and switched by magnetic starter or contactor. help you achieve optimum power factor performance within all operating conditions. Detuned Capacitor Banks Power system harmonics can cause severe damage to capacitors and create unwanted, potentially damaging parallel or series resonance. Excessive voltage and current, resulting from harmonic resonance, can cause a dramatic reduction in capacitor life. Use only capacitors with PSS detuned reactors in the presence of elevated levels of harmonics within your power system. Easy to install Low power losses 20 years life expectancy Minimal maintenance required PSS TM offers the ideal solution for any power quality need you may have. 600 volts maximum 50ha or 60hz Automatic capacitor banks Our automatic power factor correction systems allow the magnitude of PF correction to be adjusted automatically as the facility power factor (or load) changes.
