for Passenger Trains Stabilization Systems
Leading the world market Tomorrow s Technology Today Who we are... ESW holds the leading position in the world market for electro mechanical tilting technology on trains. and what we achieve ESW s NEICODRIVE-E product family is the world reference for electromechanical tilting systems. As a competent partner for train manufacturers, ESW develops and produces technologically advanced systems. Our expertise and experience are used to the full benefit of our customers. The application of our systems gives these customers a com peti tive edge in their own markets, where the passenger is the measure of all things. By tilting the carbody, NEICODRIVE-E systems allow a significant increase of train speed in bends. The result is faster travel with improved passenger comfort. ESW is constantly addressing the challenge of future requirements placed upon the supplying industry and is thus able to anticipate trends in technology. For this reason we are amongst the world s leaders for equipment of this kind. 2 NEICODRIVE-E High reliability at constantly high performance Modular design Cost effectiveness with low life-cycle costs Optimization of volume and weight Optimization for low energy consumption
Advanced Technology Continuous Performance What we offer Our commitment to development and innovation leads to sound concepts and functional solutions in tilting technology. The goal is to guarantee constantly high performance while achieving a long product life. By addressing the high demands on materials, arising from the large weights and dynamic loads of a carbody, ESW s systems offer a significant decrease in life-cycle costs and prolonged periods between maintenance. All structural parts of the NEICODRIVE-E product family are designed for use over the train s complete life-time. and what the customer receives The NEICODRIVE-E produces exceptionally responsive tilting, due to to high-precision positioning in conjunction with fast re action times, resulting in smooth carbody movements. This performance persists until the train is taken out of service. 3

Committed to Safety From Concepts to Reality From Concepts... Extensive analyses on availability, reliability, maintainability and safety (ARMS) are carried out during development to ensure early risk identification and minimization. Reliable sensing within the tilting system prevents damage and other consequences of defects. The sophisticated sensor and control concept, which is unique to the NEICODRIVE-E system, detects and counters all possible faults before a critical situation in the system can occur. The risks are minimized under all circumstances. Tests Safety First As system safety is to be considered as the most critical re quire ment on a tilting system, we have consequently aligned our development and manufacturing processes with the relevant regulations and quality norms. The basic directive for development is Safety First. Main Tests and Qualification of NEICODRIVE-E Shock and vibration Endurance, standardized and special to type Climate and environment, e.g. humidity, dry and damp heat, protection provided by enclosures, temperature Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Software requirements Automated Acceptance Test of each Unit Full function Maximum performance 8
ARMS The ARMS processes form an integral part of all design activities, for example: System Level Hazard Analysis Quantitative Fault Tree Analysis Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) Safety Analysis to Reality Our NEICODRIVE-E products have passed all relevant approval tests required by international standards and have proven reli able in operation for some time without safety critical situations. Hardware based Studies Reliability Prediction Human Factors Engineering Maintainability Analysis Software based Studies Software Safety Analysis Module testing Software/hardware integration testing Software requirements testing The customer receives a well tested and analyzed system ready for the train s approval by the relevant authorities. 9
