INTRODUCTION About the Twister 3D Storm The Twister 3D Storm is designed to fly aerobatic and 3D manoeuvres using the latest generation brushless motors and lithium polymer battery packs and without the need for upgrades. The Twister 3D Storm s state of the art 120 degree CCPM control system ensures slop free control. This control system combined with carbon fibre main rotor blades, gives the Twister 3D Storm its precise flight characteristics. The high performance yet efficient Cyclone 440 Turbo brushless motor, powers the Twister 3D Storm through aerobatics with ease. The use of high quality ball races throughout the helicopter and the belt driven tail drive system, not only ensures smooth operation, but by reducing friction, flight times increase as a result of the lower current draw. Factory Assembled The Twister 3D Storm comes assembled with four EnErg S7.5 servos installed and pushrods connected. Also factory installed is the Cyclone 440 Turbo brushless motor and a Twister HL400 tail lock gyro. New to R/C Helicopter Flying? The Twister 3D Storm is for accomplished R/C helicopter pilots. If you are new to R/C helicopter flying, we would recommend starting with one of the easier to fly members of the Twister family of helicopters before progressing to the Twister 3D Storm. Safety Radio Control Models are not toys and serious injury to persons or damage to property can result if not used in a responsible manner. In flight the main rotor blades can approach 2000rpm, therefore never fly closer than 5 metres and never fly your model at head height. In the UK, please observe the principles of safety as outlined by the governing body for model flying, the British Model Flying Association (BMFA). www.bmfa.org In Australia, please observe the guidelines for the safe operation of radio control models as outlined by the Model Aircraft Association of Australia (MAAA). www.maaa.asn.au Spare Parts Spare parts are readily available through you local hobby retailer. Use the exploded diagram and parts list in this manual to assist you in ordering the correct parts. Additional Equipment Required To ready your Twister 3D Storm for flight you will require a 6 channel radio control transmitter with CCPM mixing functions along with a 6 channel receiver. Various tools such as cross head screwdrivers and Allen keys will also be required for different stages of the final assembly.

ASSEMBLY 1. UNPACK YOUR TWISTER 3D STORM Carefully remove the model and other items from the packaging. Inspect the model to check that nothing is damaged and that all components have been included. Secure the tail boom by tightening the four retaining screws on the main frame. See below: 2. ALIGNING THE TAIL BOOM & FIN Check that the tail gearbox is perpendicular to the main rotor shaft. See below: Rotate the horizontal fin into position making sure that it is perpendicular to the main rotor shaft. See below: Check the tension of the tail drive belt. Push on the drive belt with the tip of a small screwdriver. You should be able to push the belt inwards by approximately 2 to 3mm. See below: Tighten the retaining screws on the horizontal fin to secure in place. See below:

3. TIGHTEN TAIL BLADES Tighten the tail rotor blades so they do not fall under their own weight. See below: RADIO INSTALLATION Much of the hard work has already been carried out with the servos, pushrods and gyro being installed at the factory. 6. RECEIVER INSTALLATION The receiver is installed in the cavity between the main side frames underneath the main drive gears. Secure with the supplied double sided tape. See below: 4. ATTACH UNDERCARRIAGE Using the supplied screws, attach the undercarriage and tail boom support as shown. Refer to your radio manufacturers instruction manual for the CCPM channel assignments or servo connection list. As a further aid, a setup guide for some of the more popular radios, is included at the back of this manual. Note that this is a guide only and all functions still need to be checked for correct operation. 5. ATTACH MAIN ROTOR BLADES Fit the main rotor blades using the 3mm bolts and nuts packaged with the blades. Tighten the bolts so that the blades can be moved by hand, but not move under their own weight. Fit the antenna tube into the holders moulded into the undercarriage. Feed the antenna wire through the antenna tube. To keep the antenna clear of all moving parts, run the antenna wire around the vertical fin and back to the landing gear as shown.

7. ESC INSTALLATION Mount the ESC (electronic speed controller) to the helicopter side frame with double sided tape. Connect the speed controller outputs to the corresponding coloured cables on the motor. See below: RADIO SETUP 9. REC D PITCH SETTINGS The recommended pitch setting for the Twister 3D Storm are as follows: STICK POS. LOW MID HIGH NORM -3 Deg 7 Deg 11 Deg 3D -10 Deg 0 Deg 10 Deg 10. PUSHROD LENGTHS The factory pushrod lengths are as follows: ESC Specs: Soft Start type 11.1V with BEC 9V BEC Cut-Off R/H SWASH PUSHROD = 40.5mm FRONT SWASH P/ROD = 43.5mm L/H SWASH PUSHROD = 50mm FRONT PULL/PULL = 63mm UPPER MIXING ARMS = 56mm WASHOUT LINKS = 27.5mm GYRO 8. CONNECTING THE GYRO The HL400 gyro comes factory installed and just requires connecting to the correct sockets in the receiver. Connect the plug with the black, red and orange wire to the Rudder or the correct channel number socket on the receiver. The plug with the single yellow wire plugs into an Aux socket on the receiver. Refer to you radio instruction manual. To Aux channel To Rudder channel For further information refer to the separate instructions for the HL400 Gyro. IMPORTANT! Before the connecting the flight pack to switch on the helicopter, the Tail Rotor trim lever on the transmitter, MUST be centred in order for the gyro to arm correctly. Once the gyro is armed (Set light is on), check the tail rotor control for correct operation. Measurements are from the centre of each ball link Keep these measurements for reference in the event that your helicopter needs repair. All radio settings are based on these pushrod lengths. See pages 13, 14 & 15. LINKAGE, NUT & BOLT CHECKS Check that all linkages and connectors are attached correctly and that rotating parts are free to rotate smoothly. Check that all linkages move freely with no binding or stiffness. Free off any linkages that show any degree of tightness or binding. Check that all bolts and screws are secure before flying your Twister 3D Storm. If necessary, apply thread locking compound (not supplied) where appropriate.

BATTERY CHARGING 11. CONNECTING THE CHARGER The included balancing type charger come with both an AC power adaptor and a power lead for 12VDC operation. Twister 3D Storm The Charge LED should be solid red while the Cell LED s will be solid green or solid orange depending on the state of the battery cells. The instructions on the front of the charger give full details on the LED indicators and the battery charge status. When all four LED s are solid red, the battery is fully charged. Plug the connector from the AC power adapter or the 12VDC power lead into the socket on the right hand side of the charger. See below: WARNING! Do not leave battery unattended when charging Do not attempt to charge a warm battery. Allow battery to cool before charging. Disconnect battery immediately should battery become hot to touch. FINAL FLIGHT PREPARATION 13. INSTALLING THE BATTERY. With the power to the charger turned on, the red Charge LED will flash and the cell LED s will be solid red. Slide the battery into the battery cavity beneath the motor and secure with the Velcro strap provided. See below: 12. CONNECT BATTERY TO CHARGER. Connect the balance plug on the battery into the side of the charger. See below: WARNING! Keep hands, clothing, eyes, animals and children well clear when connecting power to this model and when flying it!
