Torque Wrench 10-100 Mobile Bucking Unit
Mobile Bucking Unit Designed for making up and breaking out joints of drillpipe ranging from 2 ½ to 10inch in tool joint diameter. 1
World First Weatherford s world first TW 10-100 MBU is operating for BHPBilliton s Stybarrow campaign on the Atwood Eagle. It was designed for BHPB as they saw a need to make up BHA assemblies offline in a safe environment on the pipe deck. Currently the unit is making up BHA to 70 feet in length Not solely used for BHA, it currently also makes up tools such as: Cement head stand, ready to rack back in derrick Well head running and retrieval tools B.O.P test plugs TIW valves X-overs and Jetting tools 2
MBU Key Features The equipment is stand alone and only requires a 440V power connection. It is transportable and is designed to be lifted on/off the rig when operations dictate. DNV certified The Tong is capable of producing 100 000ft/lbs of torque. Spinner is capable of a producing 3000ft/lbs of torque. Weatherford s new 3 jaw clamping system, eliminating jaw slip and damage to tool joints. What separates this from other Bucking or CAM Units. Mobility Has the advantage of being loaded and unloaded from above, so its perfect for areas where you are tight on space. 3
Reliability Reliability The 4 main components: Torque Wrench, Spinner, Electric Power Unit and Control Cabinet are all components that are field proven on other Weatherford equipment. Designed and manufactured by Weatherford in Germany Backed by Weatherford Australia s local operational and technical assistance. Currently 7 trained operators in Australia Supported by Weatherford s QAQC program consisting of: Work Instructions Service Instructions Maintenance Registers and Spares Inventory Torque Connection Tracker sheet Level 1 and 2 competency training for operators Comprehensive Operators Manual 4
Safety Safety: BHA tools can be loaded safely and securely with the use of a gantry or deck crane. It is operated by remote control allowing operator to maintain a safe distance from moving machinery. Emergency shut down devices fitted to the unit that allows quick shut down of hydraulics in the event of a spill. MBU base frame incorporates a spill containment area. Hazardous operations on the rig floor are reduced: Use of manual rig tongs Eliminates heavy stabilizers and 36 hole openers swinging around on tuggers. 5
Real Results Results from the Stybarrow campaign have been collated and the results are showing significant savings in critical path time. Comparisons were made to the previous well centre and it was calculated that on average each connection would save 15mins and each Cement Head stand approx 60mins critical path time. It was also calculated that an additional 75% of this figure would be saved again in breaking out connections. The following slide shows the type and number of connections that were made in a 37 day period, when you add the 15hrs of makeup time saved with an additional 11hrs of breakout time the MBU has saved more than 25hrs of rig time. Already saving one days rig rate of $350 000 USD. 6

Comparison The previous example displayed how quickly 1 days operating costs can be saved using the MBU The following example shows the savings that have been gained from the beginning of the installation of the MBU Since this time the MBU has in excess of 300 connections for make up only. (period from 15 th Oct 06 6th Aug 07) The following slides display the number of total connections recorded as well as Cement Head assemblies. 8
Total Connections Based on this data the MBU has saved the Stybarrow Campaign a total of 131hrs of critical path time in less than 10 months. SAVING - 1.92 Million USD The figures can be changed according to current rig rates and rig floor connection times for specific rigs 9
