-dec 542 Side Delivery System I NSTLLTION GUIDE This document contains installation instructions for the -dec 542 side delivery system. NOTE Depending on your equipment configuration, some steps in the following procedures may not apply. Figure 1. -dec 542 Side Delivery System efore You egin Check with local building and code authorities about installation requirements. They differ from state to state and internationally. Check that the manual air shut-off valve is installed. Use the templates provided in the -dec Dental Furniture Technical Packet (p/n 86.0142.00) to install the utilities. WRNING Consult a licensed professional, i.e. structural or architectural engineer, for mounting to metal stud or masonry walls. Ensure that all installations conform to local code requirements. Mounting structures must be designed to support a minimum shear load of 100 lb (445 N) and a minimum moment of 112 ft-lb (152 N-m). Installation Steps Figure 2. Remove Cable Tie 1. Remove the delivery system assembly from the box. 2. Cut the first cable tie to remove the unit from the packaging material. See Figure 2. WRNING The rigid arm and flexarm are cable tied together. Use caution when cutting the cable tie; the arms are spring loaded and may cause injury. When you cut the cable tie, remove the wood block that stabilized the control head during shipment. NOTE If you are mounting the delivery system to a Preference Slimline TM Utility Console, remove the utility cover from the utility console. CUTION When removing or replacing covers, take care not to damage any wiring or tubing. Verify that the covers are secure after replacing them. Install the Mounting racket The bracket can be mounted to a storage or drawer side, to the sink side, or to the wall. Follow the appropriate procedure below. Figure 3. ttach Mounting racket on Storage or on Drawer Side If installing the mounting bracket to a storage or drawer side module: 1. Remove the drawers or door. 2. Complete drilling the two holes on the side panel of the storage or drawer side. See Figure 3. 3. Secure the mounting bracket to the cabinet using: Two 1 (25 mm) mounting screws installed through the bottom holes. Two 2 (51 mm) mounting screws with washers, secured with nuts installed through the top holes. Proceed to Level the Mounting racket on page 5. () Holes to Drill; () Mounting racket 2 86.0467.00 Rev E
If installing the mounting bracket on the sink side: Mounting the bracket on Preference Collection 5543, 5531, and 5631 built after September 2005: 1. Route the umbilical tubing through the mounting bracket and into the cabinet. See Figure 4. 2. ttach the mounting bracket to the cabinet with the sockethead screws. Figure 4. ttach Mounting racket on Cabinet NOTE Some Preference cabinets have pre-installed threaded inserts. The installation kit provides fasteners to meet installation requirements. Use appropriate fasteners for your installation. 3. Proceed to Level the Mounting racket on page 5. Mounting the retrofit bracket on Preference Collection 5543, 5531, and 5631 built before September 2005 1. Remove the existing delivery system, discard all hardware. 2. Using the four existing holes as guides, locate the center mark for the utilities cut-out through the cabinet. See Figure 5. 3. Drill or cut a 2" diameter hole through the module. Figure 5. Mount the backboard: Place the template at the selected location. Use a level to ensure that the template is correctly placed. Mark the six mounting holes, and drill 3/16" (4.8 mm) diameter holes at these locations. 1" [25.40mm] 1.04" [26.42mm] This EDGE UP to position board for Standard Left Hand orientation 16" [406.40mm] (Must align with standard 16" stud center construction) 18" [457.20mm] lign the backboard with the mounting holes. Secure with six 1/4 x 2 1/2" (63.5 mm) lag screws and washers. Check for level and tighten screws. 3. ttach the mounting bracket to the backboard. Install the Remote Floor ox If installing a cabinet-utility-mounted system, route tubing before attaching the mounting bracket to the cabinet. To install: 1. Place the floor box. 2. If installing a wall mount system, skip to Level the Mounting racket on page 5. 3. If installing a cabinet-mounted or utilitymounted system, route the floor box umbilical through the bottom of the mounting bracket. See Figure 7. Level the Mounting racket 1. If installing a cabinet-mounted or utilitymounted system, place a level on the cabinet countertop and verify the cabinet is level. Make adjustments as needed. 2. Place a level on the mounting bracket. To level side-to-side, insert shims from the hardware kit between the mounting bracket and the cabinet or wall board. See Figure 8. To level front-to-back, loosen the mounting bracket screws and move the bracket until level. Retighten the screws. See Figure 9. 3. Recheck the level. Figure 7. Install the Delivery System If installing to a remote floor box: 1. Place the delivery system hub on the bracket. See Figure 10. 2. Route the foot control tubing to the floor box. See Figure 11. 3. Install the tubing through the grommet, then push grommet and tubing through the floor box tubing hole. 4. Proceed to Step 2 on page 8. If installing a wall mount system, route tubing to the remote floor box: 1. Remove all tubing, the power cable and the data cable from the floor box convolute. 2. Cut floor box convolute tubing to 6' (1.83 m) in length. 3. Install convolute in floor box. 4. Route tubing and cables from the delivery system umbilical through the convolute into the floor box. See Figure 12. 5. Make connections inside the floor box. 6. Go to Step 2 on page 8. NOTE The floor box convolute tubing length is 7' (2.13 m); the delivery system umbilical is 6' (1.83 m). If installing on a storage or drawer module: 1. Place the delivery system hub on the bracket. See Figure. 2. Route the foot control tubing through the utility chase and into the sink module for connections. 3. Route the delivery system umbilical () through the umbilical collar (), outer umbilical (F), wood cover panel (C), and umbilical connector (D). See Figure 14. 4. Thread the umbilical collar () onto the outer umbilical (F). 5. Thread the umbilical connector (D) onto the outer umbilical (F). 6. Push the umbilical collar () into the bracket and secure it with the 5/8" (15.88 mm) set screw. 7. Secure the umbilical connector (D) with the retaining clip (E), and route the system umbilical () into the sink module. 8. Replace the utility cover on the utility chase with the three screws, and replace the wood cover on the front of the utility chase. Set up the Tubing and Power Connections If installing a cabinet-mount or console mount: 1. Make connections inside the cabinet or utility console. Figure 13. Connect the foot control tubing to the corresponding tubing from the umbilical. Refer to -dec 542 Flow Diagram, located inside the control head cover. 2. Connect the air filter/regulator module to the manual air shut-off valve. 3. Use the Data Communication System (DCS) connector kit to connect all the DCS lines (for -dec 500 or newer PC boards). 4. Connect the power supply. NOTE Remote power supply cables are available to connect the delivery system to the 511 chair. Refer to the -dec Equipment Catalog for more information. 5. Install the self-contained water bottle in the desired location and connect the tubing. Refer to the instructions included with the water bottle. Install ncillary Equipment Install any of the optional ancillary equipment for the -dec 542 delivery system. Use the instructions provided with the equipment. djustments This section describes the steps to adjust the -dec 542 delivery system. This section assumes you have previously installed the delivery system. Load the control head for normal use. ttach handpieces and place a tray with instruments on the tray holder. 2. Move the control head to the lowest position. 3. Turn the master toggle off. If the control head drifts up against the cabinet, adjust the counterbalance. See Figure 15. 4. Insert a hex hey into the adjustment screw. See Figure 16. NOTE If drifting up against cabinetry is not an issue, adjust the counterbalance to the midpoint of the operating position. Turn the hex key to the right to increase the upward drift. Handpiece Control djustments djust Water Coolant Flow The water coolant flow control adjusts the water to all handpieces. Use the adjustment key or a hex key to complete the adjustment. See Figure 17 and Figure 18: 1. Lift the handpiece from the holder. 2. Locate the water coolant flow controls. 3. Turn the water coolant on. 4. Insert an adjustment key or hex key into the water coolant flow control for the handpiece being adjusted. 5. Press the foot control to activate the handpiece. 6. djust the water coolant flow to fit the user s needs (normally 1-2 drops per second). Turn the adjustment key to the right to decrease flow. Turn the adjustment key to the left to increase flow. NOTE Typically, one of the handpiece positions is air only. -dec customizes the handpiece configuration at the time of order. Figure 17. Use the adjustment key or a hex key to complete the adjustment. See Figure 19. 1. Lift the handpiece from the holder. 2. Locate the air coolant control. 3. Use the deluxe touchpad to verify air coolant is on. 4. Insert an adjustment key or hex key into the air coolant flow control. 6. djust the air coolant flow to fit the user s needs. Turn the control to the right to decrease flow. Turn the control to the left to increase flow. NOTE djusting the air coolant for one handpiece sets it for all of the positions. Figure 20. djust Drive ir Pressure djust the Drive ir Pressure The drive air adjustment knobs control the pressure for each handpiece. See Figure 20. The digital drive air pressure gauge is located inside the control head. See Figure 21. The gauge indicates, in psi, the drive air pressure as it leaves the control block to the active handpiece. NOTE Use a handpiece pressure gauge attached to the handpiece tubing for an exact drive air measurement. One bar equals 14.5 psi (100 kpa). () Drive ir djustment Knobs Figure 21. Digital Drive ir Pressure Gauge Drive ir Pressure Gauge To adjust the drive air pressure, complete these steps for each handpiece: 1. If you have a deluxe touchpad, deselect the water coolant. 2. Locate the drive air pressure gauge and controls. 3. Press the foot control. 4. With the handpiece running, watch the gauge and adjust the handpiece drive air pressure to meet manufacturer s specifications. Turn the control to the right to decrease flow. Turn the control to the left to increase flow. NOTE Refer to your handpiece documentation for the drive air pressure specification. 86.0467.00 Rev E 11
Touchpad Programming Status Icon Figure 22. Status Icon Status Icon The -dec logo on the deluxe touchpad indicates the system status: Solid blue normal operation and power is on. linking chair stop plate or cuspidor limit switch is active. The icon returns to solid blue once you remove any obstructions. Chair Positioning The touchpad provides manual and programmed controls for -dec chair positioning. The direction arrows on the touchpad allow you to manually move the chair base and back up or down (see Table 1). Four programmable chair buttons automatically move the chair into a factory preset position (see Table 2). Program the Chair Preset Positions NOTE To stop the chair at any point, push any chair position button on the footswitch or touchpad. To program chair preset positions Entry/Exit, Treatment 1, and Treatment 2: 1. Use the manual controls to adjust the chair position as desired. 2. Press and release the Program button ( or ). One beep indicates programming mode. 3. Press the chair position button you wish to reset (for example, press or for Entry/Exit). Three beeps indicate the new setting is programmed. Table 1. Customize the X-Ray/Rinse utton The X-ray/Rinse button functions either as X-ray/Rinse or as another preset position (Treatment 3). To change the function of the X-ray/Rinse button: 1. Press and hold the Program button and or simultaneously for three seconds. One beep indicates the button has been configured as Treatment 3. Three beeps indicates that the X-ray/Rinse button has been configured as the x-ray/rinse function (toggles between the x-ray/rinse and the previous position). 2. Program the preset position as instructed under Program the Chair Preset Positions TIP If the X-ray/Rinse button is changed to a preset position, it operates the same as the Treatment buttons 1 and 2. Cuspidor Functions Cupfill utton: Controls water flow from the cuspidor into a cup. Press the Cupfill button for a timed operation. The factory preset is a 2.5 second fill. Press and hold the Cupfill button for manual operation. owl Rinse utton: Provides rinse water for the cuspidor bowl. Press the owl Rinse button for a timed operation. The factory preset is a 30 second rinse. Press and hold the owl Rinse button for manual operation TIP Press the owl Rinse button ( or ) twice in less than two seconds to activate the continuous operation mode. Press the button once to end the continuous bowl rinse mode. Customize the Cupfill and owl Rinse To program the cupfill and bowl rinse timing: 1. Press and release the Program button or, at the cuspidor, press and hold both the Cupfill and owl Rinse buttons located near the spout. One beep indicates the programming mode is ready. 2. Press and hold the Cupfill or owl Rinse button for the desired amount of time. 3. Release the button. Three beeps confirm the setting. Dental Light You can turn the dental light on or off from either the touchpad or the dental light. The Dental Light button on the touchpad allows you to change intensity settings. Halogen Dental Light: Press to toggle between high and composite or medium and composite. When the dental light is in composite mode, the indicator light blinks. LED Dental Light: Press and release to choose the desired intensity mode. When the light is in cure-safe mode, the indicator light blinks. Dental Light uto On/Off Feature The dental light has an auto on/off feature. When you use a programmed chair position, the dental light turns on when the chair back reaches operating position. Press Entry/Exit ( or ) or X-ray/Rinse ( or ) and the dental light automatically turns off. To activate/deactivate: Press and hold and the Program button simultaneously for three seconds. One beep confirms the dental light auto feature is off. Three beeps confirms the dental light auto feature is on. / utton TIP If X-ray/Rinse button is changed to a preset position, the dental light auto feature operates the same as the Treatment buttons 1 and 2. Deluxe touchpads include an / button ( ) that offers two separate sets of programmable settings. The currently active set is indicated by the or in the touchpad screen. 86.0467.00 Rev E 13
Electric Handpiece Settings Standard Mode Programming ctivate the electric motor by lifting the handpiece from the holder. The settings on the display are the ones last used for that handpiece position. The electric motor allows you to choose a precise preset speed. This table lists the factory presets for electric motors Table 3. With the / button, you can program two settings for each Memory button, for a total of 8 customized settings per handpiece (the endodontic mode offers an additional 8 memory settings). NOTE If two operators use the delivery system, be sure to select the correct operator set ( or ) before changing any memory settings. The currently active set is indicated by the or in the touchpad screen. To program the handpiece setting: 1. Press the Minus (-) or Plus (+) buttons to adjust the RPM. The RPM values are displayed in the touchpad screen (see Figure 24). 2. If desired, press or to change water and air coolant settings. 3. To place the setting into memory, press or. One beep sounds. 4. Choose the desired memory setting by pressing m1, m2, m3, or m4. Three beeps confirm the setting. Figure 24. The system defaults to the forward position when you return the motor to the holder or turn off the power. In reverse mode, the screen icon flashes continuously. Endodontics Mode Programming Endodontics mode allows you to change settings based on the specific file and desired handpiece behavior. Icons in the touchpad screen reflect the settings (see Figure 25). Figure 25. To program the endodontics memory settings: 1. Lift the handpiece from the holder. 2. If the touchpad screen does not display endodontics mode, press or. 3. To change settings, press the Minus (-) or Plus (+) buttons. You see a white reverse video box on the touchpad screen. 4. To move from setting to setting on the touchpad screen, press the chair positioning buttons. 5. To change the setting, press the Minus (-) or Plus (+) buttons. 6. To set the speed limit, torque limit, and ratio into memory, press or. One beep sounds. 7. Press the desired Memory button (M1 through M4). Three beeps confirm the setting.
