26 th Annual Speedster Run The 26 th Anniversary Annual Speedster Endurance Run and Low Land Tour will take place out of Alpine in the East county of San Diego over the weekend of October 19-20. On Saturday there will be a short tour from the hotel to test out the cars followed by refreshments during the technical inspection. On Sunday the Speedsters embark on a hundred and twenty mile mountainous journey. Trouble trucks will be available for those unfortunate enough to break down. Each speedster will be inspected for conformity to published rules. The total tour fee of $75 for Speedsters includes refreshments on Saturday. For Sunday, the fee includes coffee & donuts at the first checkpoint, soft drinks at the second checkpoint and a generous lunch for two after the run. Each participant will be awarded a patch commemorating this annual event for a perpetual trophy. 26th Annual Speedster Run General Rules 1. All speedsters must be based on a Model T Ford chassis and running gear components. A model T chassis consists of a Model T front and rear axles, Model T frame, Model T engine block with planetary transmission and Model T clutch. Wheels are to be Model T or T accessories for the era. 2. All speedster must prominently display entry numbers on both front and both sides. 3. Each vehicle must pass the Technical Committees safety Inspection prior to the Run at the Hotel on Saturday, October 19, 2013. 4. All speedometers and odometers must be removed or taped over during the run. 5. All drivers are encouraged to wear white overalls or authentic speedster era outfits. 6. Each vehicle must have a driver and riding mechanic (one seat style race cars are the only exception). 7. On questions of authenticity, proof of authenticity rests solely with the entrant and the entrant must document the satisfaction of the endurance Run Committee. None compliance with the rules shall be cause for disqualification. 8. Entry fee is $75 per car and includes two snacks, two patches, two barbeques and two lunches. 9. 26th Annual Speedster Run Safety Rules To qualify all cars must meet the following requirements: 1. Any modifications to the stock Model T chassis must be equal or superior to Ford T parts for strength and durability. 1. No part of the frame, undercarriage, engine or running gear can extend below the wheel rims. 3. Service and parking brakes must be in order. 4. Working brake lamp. 5. Cars with auxiliary transmissions two speed rear-ends MUST be equipped with effective auxiliary rear hub brakes. The 26-27 lined internal hub brakes qualify. Early internal hub brakes, even though lined, do NOT. 6. Reasonably true and tight wheels. 7. At least 3/32 inch tread on tires with no dry rot or excessive cracking. 8. Rear wheels tight on axles. 9. Front wheel bearings properly adjusted. 10. No undue play in steering system, including drag link, tie rod, spindles, etc. 11. Steering gear cover secured with a set screw. 12. A firewall. 13. Steering column mounted in at least two places and not able to overturn. 14. Authentic, wrap around seat with outside walls high enough to hold occupants in place. 15. Seat frames bolted to body and or frame. Body bolted to frame. 16. Cotter pins, safety wires, lock washers & locknuts in place. 17. All raw metal edges & cowling protected with suitable edging. 18. All hoods securely held down. 19. Any glass (except head/tail lenses) must be safety glass. 20. Exhaust pipes secured to body or frame. 21. Authentic-design gas tank, secured with at least two straps. 22. Fire extinguisher.
