SERVICE S-TYPE DATE 11/04 TECHNICAL BULLETIN V6 Coolant Pump Outlet Hose Replace With Correct Specification Service Action S518 MODEL VIN S303-S518 2004-05 MY S-TYPE 3.0L N08089-N22276 Issue: A concern has been identified on a number of 2004-05 MY S-TYPE 3.0L vehicles within the above VIN ranges. The coolant pump outlet hose installed in these vehicles may not be to the correct specification. This could result in the coolant pump outlet hose bursting causing the engine to lose coolant. Action: Replace the coolant pump outlet hose on the affected vehicles. Unsold vehicles must be repaired prior to hand over of the vehicle for retail sale. For those vehicles in the hands of the customer, replace the coolant pump outlet hose at the earliest opportunity. At the time of confirming a booking for a service interval or vehicle repair, check DDW to determine whether this Service Action affects the vehicle. DDW will be updated to show only those vehicle affected. Note: At the time of confirming an appointment for vehicle repair or service, ensure that any outstanding Service Actions are identified to ensure the correct parts are available and adequate workshop time is allocated for repairs to be completed at one visit NOTE: The information in Technical Bulletins is intended for use by trained, professional technicians with the knowledge, tools, and equipment to do the job properly and safely. It informs these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or provides information that could assist in proper vehicle service. WORKSHOP PROCEDURE 1. Open door, hood, and luggage compartment and install exterior vehicle protection. 2. Disconnect the battery, refer to Global Technical Reference (GTR), Workshop Procedure, section 414-01. 3. Raise the vehicle. 4. Drain the coolant and set aside for reuse. 5. Remove engine cover. 6. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. 7. Disconnect the top hose from the link hose (Illustration 1). 8. Remove the link hose from the engine (Illustration 1). COOLANT PUMP OUTLET HOSE ILLUSTRATION 2 9. Disconnect the coolant pump outlet hose (Illustration 2) from the coolant pump. 10. Remove the coolant pump outlet hose from the engine. 11. Remove and set aside the two securing clips from the coolant pump outlet to engine hose. 12. Install the two securing clips on the new coolant pump outlet to engine hose. 13. Connect the coolant pump outlet hose to the engine. 14. Connect the coolant pump outlet hose to the coolant pump. 15. Release the coolant pump outlet to engine hose spring band clip at engine. 16. Position and fully tighten the securing clip for the coolant pump outlet to engine hose at the engine. 19. Position and fully tighten the securing clip for the coolant pump outlet to engine hose securing clip at the coolant pump. 20. Install and fully seat the top hose to engine link hose on the engine and release spring band clip. 21. Reposition and fully seat the top hose into the link hose and release spring band clip. 22. Install the air cleaner outlet tube. 23. Fill the cooling system with the coolant drained in step 4. 24. Install the engine cover. 25. Reconnect the battery, refer to Global Technical Reference (GTR), Workshop Procedure, section 414-01. 26. Reposition the luggage compartment floor carpet. 27. Remove the exterior vehicle protection and close luggage compartment, hood, and door. Date of issue 11/04 Bulletin Number S303-S518 Page 3 of 4

If you are a recipient of this notice, and an owner of one of the vehicles within the VIN range, this letter is to inform you that your vehicle is included in this service action. The following is a breakdown of the affected vehicles by model year, model, and (VIN) range. 2004-2005 Jaguar S-Type-V6 Engines Only N08089-N22276 What is the problem? The coolant pump outlet hose fitted to your vehicle may not be to the correct specification, which may result in the possibility of the hose bursting. If this occurs, engine coolant will be lost, and a warning lamp will illuminate. If the vehicle is driven in this condition permanent engine damage may occur. What will Jaguar and your Jaguar Dealer do? An authorized Jaguar dealer will replace the coolant pump outlet hose on your vehicle with the latest specification part. What should you do? At your earliest convenience you should contact your authorized Jaguar dealer who will be able to make an appointment to undertake the necessary actions. To assist your dealer, please ensure that at the time of contact you have at hand your applicable Vehicle Identification Number. How long will it take? The time to complete the repair on your vehicle is approximately 2 hours. However due to vehicle scheduling and the temperature of your engine, your dealer may need to keep your vehicle longer to complete the repair. Moved or no longer own a Jaguar?
