Harley-Davidson Freewheeler Breaks the Trike Mold Harley-Davidson puts hot-rod swagger on three wheels with the 2015 Freewheeler motorcycle, an all-new trike model that fuses pure custom style and easy-handling performance. From its mini ape -hanger handlebar to its bobtail fenders, the Freewheeler is a page ripped straight from the bad-attitude handbook, offered in a compact and nimble package that delivers a riding experience like nothing else on the road. Riding on three wheels has never been cooler. The Freewheeler front end is all new and features a seven-piece chrome nacelle that s tucked tight to the forks and holds a Dual Halogen headlamp in a polished chrome bucket. A trim front fender tops a 19-inch Enforcer cast aluminum wheel with machined highlights. The all-new rear body shape gives the Freewheeler a low, lean profile and incorporates a weatherproof trunk designed to hold two full-face helmets. The top-mounted trunk door opens right-to-left for easy loading. Dual chrome mufflers with slash-down tips are inset in the bottom of the trunk. Bobtail fenders terminate in an arrogant flip to expose the rear tires and incorporate bright LED stop/tail/turn lamps. With its low profile and stripped-down details inspired by classic hot rods, the Freewheeler looks sweeter than a state fair funnel cake, said Tony Pink, Freewheeler styling lead. From the new nacelle to the fastback seat and flat-top trunk, this trike is styled to look tight and compact. Even the new passenger hand rails are designed to flow with the bodywork. The Freewheeler will debut with some real street cred. The Freewheeler puts more riders in a comfortable, confident position. That 12-inch miniape handlebar offers the tallest rise available on any Harley-Davidson motorcycle to place the hand controls closer to rider and reduce steering reach and effort. The seat is shaped to move the rider forward for a better reach to the foot and hand controls, with a passenger position designed for comfort while blending with the bodywork. Soft-touch passenger grab rails are easy to grip and mount directly to the body. The influence of customer feedback is evident throughout the Freewheeler. The speedometer features a black face with easy-to-read graphics. The chrome console features a One Touch door over the fuel fill. Ergonomic hand controls incorporate an intuitive design and improved tactile feel, with a trigger switch to cycle the information screen display on the speedometer. An air-cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 V-Twin engine cranks out 105 ft. lbs. of peak torque and delivers abundant power for quick getaways and robust highway passing performance. The Freewheeler is equipped with electronic cruise control, a foot-activated parking brake, electric reverse gear and a hydraulic Assist and Slip clutch with reduced lever effort. The linked brake system allows the rider to apply both the front and rear brakes through the rear brake pedal. The full front brake system is applied only through the front brake lever and remains independent. Built on a chassis engineered exclusively as a three-wheeled vehicle, the Freewheeler offers premium Harley-Davidson quality and performance, backed by a limited two-year factory warranty and the network of authorized Harley-Davidson dealers. The Freewheeler can be personalized with a selection of exclusive items from Harley- Davidson Genuine Motor Parts & Accessories, including a detachable windshield and backrest, multiple seat options, and an Air Wing luggage rack. The new 2015 Harley-Davidson motorcycles and accessories have already started to roll into Harley-Davidson of Erie. Visit www.hderie.com to find the new 2015 Harley- Davidson of your dreams!
2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide is Back and Bad as Ever! Road warriors, rejoice. The Harley-Davidson Road Glide motorcycle is back. After a one-year hiatus, the original alternative bagger returns to the Harley-Davidson line for 2015, infused with the DNA of Project RUSH- MORE and turned out with a new frame-mounted fairing shaped by aerodynamic science and pure menace. Also joining the Harley Touring tribe is the Road Glide Special model, loaded at the factory with all the options and an exclusive pinstripe paint job. Both Road Glide models make a fresh statement in custom form, backed up with all the genuine function hardcore riders demand. The new Road Glide fairing delivers outstanding aerodynamic performance while retaining the distinctive shark-nose visage that has long been part of the Road Glide legend. Tucked under a sinister brow, Dual Reflector Daymaker LED headlamps combine wicked style with brilliant white high- and low-beam power that simply blasts through the murk of night. The beams are designed to provide outstanding roadway illumination. Compared to 2013 Road Glide models, these new headlamps deliver up to 67 percent more spread (light across the road) and 25 percent more punch (light down the road). The light quality closely mimics that of natural daylight to further enhance visibility, and its bright-white color is conspicuous in traffic. The commanding rider posture offered by a new Road Glide handlebar bend and two-up sport seat place the rider in a position of all-day, long-haul comfort. The new handlebar locates the handgrips 5.5 inches closer to the rider and offers a new wrist angle that improves comfort. Because the Road Glide fairing is mounted to the frame, its weight and the impact of the wind are not felt through the handlebars, resulting in steering control that is light and precise. Much more than a radio, the Boom! Box 4.3 is a modern infotainment center with Bluetooth capability and USB input. Located in a reshaped inner fairing that s smooth and uncluttered, the 50-watt Boom! Box 4.3 is now located two inches closer to the rider for enhanced visibility of the brilliant color screen and an easier reach to faceplate buttons. All infotainment functions are controlled through thumb-operated five-way joysticks located on the left and right hand controls. Two 5.25-inch speakers are optimized to the system, and mounted in sealed-and-tuned enclosures. Equalization is optimized for the motorcycle environment and automatically adjusts the bass and treble levels to the volume for optimal sound quality at all motorcycle speeds. Fairing storage space includes a rubber lined Jukebox media compartment with USB connection in the right side of the inner fairing. The 2015 Road Glide is fully saturated with features generated by the customer-led Project RUSHMORE product development effort, from the stout 49mm forks and the High Output Twin Cam 103 powertrain, the Enforcer Cast Aluminum wheels and One-Touch saddlebag latches, to the improved instrument graphics and hand controls. Cruise control is standard on the Road Glide. Available Road Glide factory-installed options include the Harley-Davidson Smart Security System, and Reflex linked braking with ABS. Available Road Glide colors include Vivid Black, Amber Whiskey, Mysterious Red Sunglo, and Black Denim. Road Glide Special Like extra frosting on the cake, the new Road Glide Special comes factory-equipped with select upgrades that enhance style and function: Boom! Box 6.5GT infotainment with color touch screen and GPS navigation Gloss or denim black painted inner fairing Hand-applied pinstriping Premium Ride hand-adjustable rear suspension Reflex linked braking with ABS and Smart Security Road Glide Special color choices include: Vivid Black, Amber Whiskey, Black Denim and Superior Blue. The new 2015 Harley-Davidson Road Glide, Road Glide Special and accessories have already started to roll into Harley-Davidson of Erie. New Harley-Davidson Low models are slammed and loaded Harley-Davidson takes fit further with the 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low and Ultra Limited Low motorcycles, new models that offer the lowest seat height, and the highest rider confidence, available in a premium touring bike. The seat is slammed to get a rider s feet closer to the pavement, but that s just one of the ergonomic enhancements built into these new Low models that offer more freedom to more riders, right off the showroom floor. From the width of the primary drive housing to the diameter of the hand grips, Harley-Davidson went over its premium Touring motorcycles from top to bottom, responding to customer input to develop a better fit for riders as short as 5 feet 5 inches tall. Visually indistinguishable from standard Harley-Davidson Touring models, the new Ultra Classic Low and Ultra Limited Low are also equipped with the full complement of Project RUSHMORE features that have recalibrated the expectations of touring for motorcyclists. The look, sound and feel of the premium Harley-Davidson Touring experience is unaltered, but the fit will be right for more riders. The Ultra Classic Low and Ultra Limited Low share a package of features designed to work together to address comfort and fit issues specific to riders of shorter stature. A seat height of 25.6 inches 1.7 inches lower than the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic model and the lowest of any premium touring motorcycle on the market today allows more riders to place both feet flat on the ground when the motorcycle is stopped. A new low-profile seat reduces the reach to the foot controls. Premium front and rear suspension lowers the bike s center of gravity and makes it easier to lift the motorcycle off its side stand, yet delivers outstanding comfort and handling. The width of both the primary drive housing and derby cover has been reduced to further improve leg clearance to the ground. A new handlebar places hand controls two inches closer to the rider, putting many riders in a more comfortable position that can reduce back and shoulder strain. Smaller-diameter hand grips reduce finger reach to the brake and clutch levers. Assist and Slip hydraulic clutch reduces lever effort, a key benefit in stop-and-go traffic. A new passenger footboard mount allows the footboards to be folded up so they are out of the way when pushing the motorcycle in a garage or driveway. A new toe tab extension reduces foot reach required to retract the side stand. The 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low sets the standard for long-haul touring comfort and convenience. The High Output Twin Cam 103 engine provides abundant power for touring two-up and confident passing. A wind tunnel-tested Batwing fairing with splitstream vent limits head buffeting. The Boom! Box 4.3 audio system features Bluetooth capability and a 25-watt per channel amplifier driving four speakers. A King Tour-Pak carrier and hard saddlebags with One Touch latches, Reflex Linked Brakes with Anti-Lock Braking System, Daymaker LED lighting, electronic cruise control, and the H-D Smart Security System are standard features. The 2015 Ultra Limited Low redefines touring motorcycle refinement. The Twin- Cooled High Output Twin Cam 103 engine delivers steady performance in any riding situation. A Touch screen and GPS navigation are features of the 100-watt Boom! Box 6.5GT infotainment system. Contrast chrome Impeller cast aluminum wheels, rich two-tone paint schemes, a premium Tour-Pak luggage rack, premium saddlebag travel bags and a premium Tour-Pak travel-pak are among the deluxe features of the Ultra Limited Low.
From the Director, Kenny Sturm As I open my latest stack of email I see an updated member list from Sandy Rosenthal, our membership officer. Six new members added in as many days since her previous update, bringing our membership total to 389. Welcome to all of you who are reading your first Erie HOG newsletter. It s nice to see our membership grow and always a pleasure to meet new members at the meetings or on group rides. We are blessed with one of the more active chapters in this part of the country and, considering the short riding season that we endure, we always seem to have something going on. We have monthly rides, dinner rides, & overnight rides, as well as our MDA poker run to name a few. Our members also support other benefits and charities by participating in other poker runs and memorial rides. Some of our retired riders or ROMEO s (Retired Old Men Eating Out) will get together for impromptu rides just because we can. And during the non-riding season our chapter continues with dinner rides even if we have to take the cages. We also have movie nights in our H.O.G. room during the cold winter weather to keep the camaraderie going. As I talked with directors and other officers at the Harley Officers Training this spring, it was clear to me that we are very fortunate to have the support of our sponsoring dealership that many other chapters could only wish for. Kelly & Susan Lapping have always been generous with contributions for our chapter and we have one of the nicest H.O.G. meeting rooms in the country. Not many dealers give their H.O.G. members a 10% discount. And I m pretty sure I can speak for them when I say that they are very appreciative of the help that our chapter provides throughout the year with events such as Bikefest and gift wrapping at Christmas. I too want to thank everyone who contributes their time and effort to make this chapter so successful. It s never difficult to fill a volunteer list when needed with this group. And our officers do a lot behind the scenes to make our meetings fun and interesting and our rides memorable. We now have 389 members and on the average about 55-70 attend our monthly meetings, and 20 or so attend dinner rides or monthly rides. We know that many of you join Erie H.O.G. solely for the discount on purchases at the dealership but I would encourage those of you who have never attended a meeting or group ride to give it a try. Check out what you ve been missing. We have a very diverse group of motorcycle enthusiasts and you will surely meet some great people. We look forward to seeing more of you at our last Saturday meeting of 2014 on September 6 th as we return to Tuesday night meetings in October.
