Vibration Type Level Sensor
The VLS series is a piezoelectric driven vibration type level switch that detects the level in bins, silos and hoppers, filled with grained or powdered materials (bulk solids). The instrument can be used for overfill protection, for high or low level alarm. Functions The blade of the probe vibrate on its resonance frequency. When filling material covers the blade of the probe, the vibration stops. This is sensed by the electronic circuitry and the output relay switches. When the blade gets uncovered, the vibration will restart and the relay will switch back. As only the tip of the vibrating blade is sensitive and not the base, build-up on the container wall has no influence on the function of the instrument. The shape of the blade and its vibration have a self-cleaning effect. Advantages The vibration technique of the VLS offers many unique advantages over alternative level sensing technologies: No - Moving parts, maintenance required and calibration required Unaffected by - Environmental changes (e.g. temperature, pressure, humidity), material changes, dust clouds and agitation Maximum - Versatility Design - Single Prong - The single prong design with its sharp edged vibrating blade prevents material build-up typically associated with the dual prong tuning fork design. The VLS can be used for light material with densities as low as to 10 g/liter. Strong stainless steel construction makes the VLS tough for the use with heavy materials such as cement. Single Prong Fail-safe - The electronic circuit of the VLS indicates power failure. If power supply fails the relay drops into alarm condition. 2

Thus instrument does not require re-calibration for a new or different material. Model: VLS100 The VLS100 rugged design for detecting materials with minimum bulk density of 50 grams per liter and higher. The signal from the electronic circuit of the VLS100 excites the 82 mm stainless steel rod of the probe. VLS100 Model: VLS200 The VLS200 insertion length approx. 190 mm and can be side or top mounted for both high or low level detection. VLS200 3
VLS300 Model: VLS300 (Pipe Extension Welded) For application requires a longer or specific insertion length, the VLS300 is the instrument of choice. By means of a pipe extension between the vibration probe and the threaded mounting socket process connection, the VLS300 can be customised to any specific insertion of up to 2 m. The VLS300 is suitable for both top and side mounting. Side mounting is possible for insertion length less than 1m, the extension pipe must be adequately supported. VLS300 side mounted could helps over come built up on internal wall of vessel. Model: VLS400 (Flexible Cable Extension) The VLS400 is a cable extended model only top mounting which allows insertion length up to 20m by means of reinforced flexible cable. The vibration probe is connected to the electronics by means of a polyurethane sheathed, steel rope reinforced cable. The flexible cable provides ease of installation as well as an economical means for transporting such a long instrument. VLS400 Remote Electronics Installation The remote electronics option (RE) offers the possibility to install the electronics away from the process vessel at a remote location. Suitable application for very high temperature or excessive mechanical vibrations, the electronics can be installed at a remote location up to a maximum distance of 20 meters away from the vibrating probe. Standard length of the cable extension is 2m. The standard version of the VLS series vibrating probe is rated for 80 C continuous working process temperature. For applications where process temperatures exceed 80 C, remote electronics (RE) is recommended. Remote Electronics 4
