Applicability has been updated to include 2005 2008 model year Avalon vehicles. The entire bulletin has been updated. Service Bulletin No. T-SB-0090-12 is Obsolete and any printed versions should be discarded. Be sure to review the entire content of this bulletin before proceeding. Introduction Some 2005 2012 model year Avalon vehicles may exhibit a looseness when securing the telescopic adjustment lever on the steering column. A new adjustment lever Detent Clip has been developed to address this condition. Please follow the procedure in this bulletin to replace the telescopic lever Detent Clip. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle s in-service date. Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin. Parts Information PART NUMBER PART NAME QTY 45887-07010 Clip, Detent 1 Repair Procedure 1. Confirm that the steering telescopic lever will loosen when light force is applied to the top of the steering wheel or while there is vibration while driving. 2. Align front wheels facing straight ahead. 3. Disconnect cable from negative ( ) battery terminal. CAUTION Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative ( ) battery terminal to disable the SRS system. Some of the operations performed in this bulletin affect the SRS system. Please review the precautionary notices in the Repair Manual concerning the SRS system before servicing.

Disengage the 4 claws and 7 clips. D. Disconnect the connectors and remove the instrument panel finish lower panel LH. 7. Remove instrument panel airbag assembly lower No. 1. Figure 4.. A. Remove the 4 bolts and the driver side knee airbag assembly. B. Disconnect the connector from the driver side knee airbag assembly. NOTICE When handling the airbag connector, take care NOT to damage the airbag wire harness.

NOTE The telescopic locking bolt has left-hand threads. 12. Install the new Detent Clip. NOTICE Ensure the clip is installed in the correct orientation. Figure 9.

T-SB-0147-13 September 27, 2013 Page 9 of 11 14. While holding the telescopic adjusting bolt with the T30 socket, tighten the telescopic lever nut using a 15 mm crowsfoot and torque wrench. Torque: 6 8 N*m (61 82 kgf*cm, 4 6 ft*lbf) NOTE The telescope lever nut has left-hand threads. Figure 11.

NOTICE When handling the airbag connector, be careful NOT to damage the airbag wire harness. B. Install the driver side knee airbag assembly with the 4 bolts. Torque: 10 N*m (102 kgf*cm, 7 ft*lbf) 16. Install the instrument panel finish lower panel LH. Figure 13.. A. Engage the connectors. B. Connect the hood lock control cable. C.
