Side Channel Mag Drive (SCM) Assembly Side Channel pumps are available with a magnetic drive option. The pump or fluid end remains the same as the mechanical seal pump for repairs.
SCM Pumps Pumps all have discharge and suction pressure openings. Pump requires the use of metric tools.
Bearing Unit Bearing Unit Assembly
Bearing Unit Assembly Drive end shaft Retainer clips Bearing casing Shaft ball bearings Bearing cap The above shows the parts of the bearing unit assembly.
Bearing Unit Assembly Install the sealed bearing on the drive side first (the two ball bearings are interchangeable). Secure to the shaft using the retainer clip Place the shaft & bearing assembly into the bearing housing & install the bearing cap using the three screws. Then invert unit to continue building the bearing assembly.
Bearing Unit Assembly Install the other ball bearing using a press. Secure using the retainer clip. To disassemble the bearing unit you must remove both retaining clips and the bearing cap to press the shaft out from the drive side first. Insert the shaft key and test fit the rotor adapter plate.
Outer Magnetic Rotor & Housing Next move on to installing the magnetic housing, support foot, and outer rotor assembly.
Outer Magnetic Rotor & Housing Place the outer magnet housing on the bearing assembly and fasten using five screws. The foot should be attached to the bottom of the pump.
Outer Magnetic Rotor & Housing Install the outer magnetic rotor assembly to the rotor adapter plate, securing with washer and cap screw.
Outer Magnetic Rotor & Housing Helicoil Key Make sure a helicoil and shaft key is installed in the end of the shaft.
Outer Magnetic Rotor & Housing Place outer magnetic rotor assembly into the housing and align with the shaft key.
Outer Magnetic Rotor & Housing Install with washer and screw while holding the lower shaft so it does not turn while tightening.
Outer Magnetic Rotor & Housing This completes the outer magnetic rotor & housing assembly.
Inner Magnetic Rotor & Shaft
Inner Magnetic Rotor & Shaft Helicoil Dowel pin Thrust bearing Insert the helicoil into the magnet end of the pump shaft. Then insert the small dowel pin into the shaft and place the thrust bearing on the shaft making sure to align the notch to the dowel pin.
Inner Magnetic Rotor & Shaft Sleeve Bearing Housing Attach the sleeve bearing housing to the adapter plate using five bolts.
Inner Magnetic Rotor & Shaft Apply some Vaseline type lubricant to the bearing face. Insert the pump shaft into the adapter plate and place vertically in a vise.
Inner Magnetic Rotor & Shaft Slide the long carbon shaft sleeve onto the shaft and insert the metallic key into the shaft.
Inner Magnetic Rotor & Shaft Metallic Key Bolt with hole Slide the inner magnetic drive rotor onto the shaft and secure using the washer and bolt that has the hole drilled through it.
Inner Magnetic Rotor & Shaft Place the separation chamber gasket on the adapter ring and install the separation chamber. Secure using the screws. Caution: Chamber will resist and then slam onto the plate! Be Careful!
Inner Magnetic Rotor & Shaft Completed Inner Magnetic Rotor & Shaft
Completing the Mag End If a vise is available secure the magnet housing and lower the shaft assembly into the housing and tighten using screws. Caution: Shaft assembly will resist and then slam onto the housing! Be Careful!

Hydraulic End To complete the hydraulic end of the pump it is best to work on the pump in the vertical position. Putting the feet in a vise may assist in doing this.
Hydraulic End Gasket Place the gray graphoil gasket onto the magnet drive assembly and install the pump discharge casing. Gasket Discharge Casing
Hydraulic End Once the discharge casing is in place the hydraulic end of the pump can be assembled. Please refer to publication Disassembly & Assembly for Side Channel Pumps (CP470) for detailed instructions on building the hydraulic pump end.
Hydraulic End The hydraulic end consists of stage casings. A complete stage consists of a suction case, impeller, impeller key, discharge case, & stage gasket. Please refer to publication Disassembly & Assembly for Side Channel Pumps (CP470) for detailed instructions on building the hydraulic pump end.
