Club Car, LLC Post Office Box 204658 Augusta, Georgia 30917-4658 (706) 863-3000 URGENT SAFETY RECALL TO: Authorized Club Car Golf and Utility Vehicle Dealers, Distributors, Branch Offices, Regional Managers and Factory Direct Sales Associates DATE: March 9, 2012 SUBJECT: Utility Vehicle Brake Block Campaign Club Car, LLC, in cooperation with the U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is notifying all owners and operators of 2012 model year utility products of a risk of brake pedal mounting block breakage in certain units due to improper processing of the brake pedal mounting blocks. This problem, if not corrected, could present a loss of braking ability, posing a potential crash hazard. Club Car is recalling brake blocks with certain manufacturing date codes in 2012 model year vehicles. Enclosed is a copy of the letter distributed to customers. That letter provides customers who purchased affected vehicles with a listing of the Club Car models and serial numbers affected. A list of all affected vehicles can be accessed on the Safety Info page of Club Car Pavilion. The Safety Info link is at the very bottom right of the main page. This list shows all customers involved and is sorted by state. Please use this list to identify and contact those customers in your service area to arrange the required service. Please check your records to confirm your sales information. To determine if replacement is required for a given vehicle, please view the warranty history for that vehicle in Tavant and look for the 2012_BRAKE_BLOCK campaign. If you cannot access the customer list, or if you find any additional customers who should be contacted, please call 1-800-227-0739 extension 3831. The attached letter advises customers to contact us to arrange for replacement. However, because of the urgent nature of this issue, Club Car is requesting that you take immediate action by contacting each of the customers in your area to arrange for the immediate replacement of all brake mounting block assemblies in the production range. If a vehicle in this campaign is located, the brake blocks must be replaced immediately. Club Car will reimburse labor and mileage through the normal warranty process. This program is being handled as a campaign in Tavant. Please file claims using the campaign code 2012_BRAKE_BLOCK. This campaign must be completed by April 31, 2012. The installation work instructions and warranty reimbursement information are attached to this letter. Club Car has determined that affected brake pedal mounting blocks came from one manufacturing lot. Parts from this lot were not used by our Service Parts operation. Therefore, service parts are not affected by this notice. We appreciate your support with this program. Brake Block Installation Work Instruction The field service required will be replacing both pairs of brake mounting blocks on each affected vehicle by installing a Brake Mounting Block Package, Club Car part number 1011402, two part number 101976301 steel retainer plates and the mounting hardware included with this kit. If the vehicle you are repairing is equipped with brake lights, there is a longer 5/16-18x3.0 bolt included to mount the brake light switch. Be sure to install the new brake blocks, retainer plates and hardware as show in the photo below. Tighten mounting bolts to 95 in-lb (10.7 N m). If installing the longer bolt, use a 5/16 flat washer beneath the bolt head and under to lock nut to provide adequate thread engagement for the lock nut. Please follow the instructions in your Maintenance and Service Manual for removal and replacement of the brake mounting blocks. Please be certain to follow all Cautions and Warnings associated with this repair as stated in your manual. Also, replacing one set of brake blocks at a time as opposed to removing and replacing both sides in one operation will enable you to more easily perform this repair and potentially eliminate the need to readjust the brakes. NOTE: Mark both sets of brake blocks before removal so as not to accidentally mix them with the replacement parts. There is no discernable visible difference between the affected blocks and the replacement blocks. WARRANTY: ALL STANDARD TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY. Club Car, in conjunction with its dealers and distributors, has initiated a field campaign to replace the brake pedal mounting blocks in the affected vehicles. The replacement will be done free of charge. This letter is to provide the information you will need to identify the affected vehicles and the actions you should take to ensure that brake pedal assembly in your vehicle is inspected expeditiously. Which vehicles are affected? Certain 2012 utility and transport vehicles. A full listing of affected models and serial numbers is attached. Precedent golf cars, DS golf cars and all wheel drive products are not affected. What is the problem? Brake pedal mounting blocks may break during operation. This condition, if uncorrected, may lead to loss of brakes on the vehicle. Our records indicate that you are the current owner of a 2012 utility or transport vehicle or vehicles. If you are no longer in possession of the vehicle(s), please contact us at 1-800-227-0739 extension 3831 with any information you might have concerning their current location. Immediate actions to be taken for affected vehicles: STEP 1: Determine whether the serial number(s) of your 2012 utility or transport vehicle or vehicles are on the list of potentially affected vehicles in Table 1 (see serial number decal example at right). The serial number is located on a decal just above and to the right of the accelerator pedal. The serial number consists of a two-letter prefix followed by a ten-digit number. The prefix and number must both match the model listings shown in Table 1 for your vehicle to be affected. STEP 2 If your vehicle is included in Table 1, STOP USING THE VEHICLE and immediately contact your authorized Club Car dealer or call Club Car at 1-800-227-0739, ext. 3831 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET to arrange for an repair of your vehicle(s). We have initiated these steps out of our concern for safety and continued satisfaction with Club Car products and regret any inconvenience this may cause.
