Page 2 of 7 Brush Temperature Pit Humidity High friction or an exceeded brush current density limit will cause overheating. The effects are damage to the brushes and ultimate failure. Contamination/OL. Low humidity will result in pulverization of the brushes and too high a humidity will result in deterioration of the slip ring. Moisture (lack). - Complete temperature measurement for 5 brushes each on A, B, C, D rings and record the highest temperature on each ring. - Brush temperature should not exceed 115 deg C with maximum field current. SAI: Brush temp too high! - Check the humidity in the brush gear pit with hand held hygrometer. - Specified hygrometical conditions are between 6 and 15 g of H2O per cubic meter of air.
