MEASUREMENT FOR NOx REDUCTION Internal and external measurements. To comply with IMO Tier III, NOx 80% reduction, SCR,EGR and gas engine are most effective methods. All these ways were validated or ongoing and should be integrated together with the engine and propulsion system. So, one of the challenge is the integration and optimization.

SMDERI SCE EGR SYSTEM FOR NOX REDUCTION 25-75% load,about 20% EGR rate reduce Nox 80%. 100% load,10% EGR rate reduce NOx 50% BSFC will be deteriorated, especially at part load. and soot emission also.

SMDERI SCE EGR SYSTEM FOR NOX REDUCTION Injection parameter optimization can improve the BSFC and soot emission effectively. And also for air pressure. CIMAC CIRCLE

MEASUREMENT FOR SOx REDUCTION The sulphur oxide content in the exhaust gas only depends on the sulphur content in the fuel. The combustion process can not impact SOx emission too much. The available ways to fulfill the requirements are bunkering the suitable low-sulphur fuel or after treatment measures. Absolutely, to after treatment, it will also need to be integrated in the whole system. Fuel Quality Fuel quality improvement(s content reduction),but increased cost of fuel. Exhaust After Treatment Scrubber can reduce SOx 90%

REQUIREMENT TO ENGINE INTEGRATION As the key unit, marine engines have to accord with such integration trends in the whole system, and the implementation of IMO regulations would be the original power. And it will also be the challenge to the engine builders and shipyards. They should move to be the integration solver.

REQUIREMENT TO ENGINE INTEGRATION 5%BSFC Reduction 3%BSFC Reduction BSFC Reduction BSFC Reduction Including SCR,SCRUBBER,EGR,DPF, etc. ECU Basic Technology

SCR & GAS ENGINE SYSTEM INTEGRATION To comply with IMO Tier III, there are still many practical challenges need to be solved for integration. SCR technology Equipment cost (50% engine cost) Installation space Exhaust temperature control Catalyst poisoning; Storage and injection control of urea; Gas engine Storage and security of gas Stability and operation security Local energy structure and Infrastructure conditions Improve the efficiency;

EGR SYSTEM INTEGRATION Miller-cycle, HP turbocharger, common rail FIS, together with EGR is a potential way for IMO Tier III. EGR technology also need to solve some challenges for integration. EGR technology: EGR concept selection(e.g. donor cylinder, EGR TC and pump); Soot emission control at part load; Reliability Fuel consumption. CIMAC CIRCLE

EGR SYSTEM INTEGRATION Exhaust Air Exhaust Air M M Bypass Off M M Bypass ON CAC EGR TC Bypass on at high load CAC EGR TC Bypass off at Tier II mode LT cooler LT cooler EGR M HT cooler EGR ON M HT cooler EGR OFF EngineInside NECA Higher charger pressure Higher pressure FIS EngineOutside NECA Tier III mode, at rated load need to open the bypass, to avoid exceeding the limits of PFP. Tier II mode also need to open the bypass, to avoid exceeding the limits of TC speed.

CONCLUSIONS CIMAC CIRCLE Due to energy-saving and emission regulation, integration of propulsion system will be the trends. There are still a lot of practical technical challenges. Considering the system s cost, optimization of complexity and interactional impact will be the key point. Different ships, maybe different integrated solution. Thanks for your kindly attention!
