Travelling to the M/S Svalbard From Amsterdam Schiphol Airport By Train It is very easy to travel from Schiphol Airport to Amsterdam Central Station by train. This will take only about 15 minutes and costs 4,30 per person (single ticket, second class). An information point of the Dutch national railway company (NS) is located inside the arrival hall. You can buy your tickets at their desk or at a ticket machine. NS Staff is present to assist you in case you have any questions. Next, take one of the escalators in the middle of the arrival hall to enter the train station, which is located downstairs. More information: http://www.ns.nl/en By Taxi A taxi ride from Schiphol Airport to the M/S Svalbard will cost about 31-42 Euros. We prefer Uber taxi, however, if you decide to take a regular taxi, make sure to take one at the official taxi stand in front of the Arrival Hall. Ignore guys wearing signal vests with official taxi driver on it at all times! From Amsterdam Central Station By Bus or Tram Bus 48 (direction Borneo Eiland) will bring you to the M/S Svalbard with a 15 minutes ride. The bus stop is at the bus platform at the rear / water side of the Central Station, at the second floor. Leave the bus at the Azartplein, and from there it is a 3 minute walk to the M/S Svalbard. Another possibility is to take Tram 26 (direction IJburg) to the Rietlandpark stop, and then change to Tram 10 (direction Azartplein). Leave the tram at the Azartplein, and walk to the M/S Svalbard in about 3 minutes. A one-hour ticket for Amsterdam public transport services (called GVB ) costs 3,00. You can buy one-hour tickets in the tram or bus (only cards, cash is not accepted because of safety reasons). A one-day ticket costs 7,50, a two-days ticket costs 12,50, a three-days ticket costs 17,50. Day tickets are sold inside the white, wooden GVB building in front of the Central Station, and at the book store Bruna located close to our ship (600 meters). Day tickets are not sold in busses and trams. More information about different tickets can be found here: https://en.gvb.nl/reizen/producten-en-tarieven/ov-tarieven-2018 By Taxi A taxi ride from the Amsterdam Central Station to our ship costs about 10 Euros. The taxis are lined up at the rear / water side of the Central Station, upstairs at the platform (2 nd floor).
Travelling to the M/S Svalbard Car If you travel by car, it is possible to park in the vicinity of the M/S Svalbard. Yet please note the parking fee of 3 per hour, Mo-Sa, 09-24h. Until June, 2018, it is possible to park your car for free at the Johan van Hasseltweg (near nr. 2). From there, travel for free with the ferry (called the Oostveer ) to the Azartplein in about 7 minutes. After 1 June, 2018, the City of Amsterdam will introduce paid parking in every part of the city. A good alternative is to park your car at the P+R Zeeburg parking lot, which is rather cheap and has video surveillance as well. From there, you can travel with a discounted public transport ticket by Tram 26 (direction Central Station) to the Rietlandpark stop in about 2 minutes, then change to Tram 10 (direction Azartplein). We kindly ask you to inform us about your expected arrival time one day or two days before arrival. If you experience any delay on the day of arrival, please inform us about your new arrival time as soon as possible, because, in contrast to hotels, obviously we do not have a 24/7 reception. Send us a message via AirBnB, text Sjoerd at +31 (0)6 407 09 337, or send us an email: ahoy@svalbard.amsterdam Breakfast Breakfast is optional and to be booked in advance. Travelling in Amsterdam Public Transport Services The Amsterdam public transport services are comfortable, safe, and well organized. A bus/tram stop is only about 250 meters away. A one-hour ticket costs 3,00, a day ticket costs 7,50. More info: https://en.gvb.nl Bike Rental An easy (and typical Dutch) way of transport is to travel by bicycle. However, we kindly advice you not to hire a bicycle if you are not an experienced cyclist, because of the hectic Amsterdam-style traffic. At the rear / water side of the Central Station, MacBike rents bicycles for 9,75 Euros per bike per 24h ( 6 Euros for any additional 24h; insurance 3,50 Euros per day): https://www.macbike.nl/bike-rental/bicycle-prices/ Bike rental company Fietstop is located 500 meters away from our ship, at the C. van Eesterenlaan 31-33. They charge 12 per day. Departure We kindly ask you to check-out before 11.00h, because we need some time to clean the apartments before the next guests arrive. Unfortunately, we do not have enough room to store any luggage, however, secured luggage lockers are available at the Central Station for only a few euros per day: http://www.ns.nl/en/travel-information/luggage/luggage-at-the-station.html If no other guests will check-in later that day, then often it is possible to check-out at a later time, depending on our work and schedules. In this case, we will discuss a specific check-out time with you.
House Rules / Safety on Board Because you will stay on board of our ship, which is our home and differs from a regular home to some extend, we would like to kindly ask you: not to smoke inside, because of safety reasons (the interior is made of wood), and because of odour nuisance. Smoking is only allowed outside on deck, on your private terrace; not to make open fire, for instance, not to light candles inside your apartment or outside on deck. Again, because of safety reasons, our insurance company does not allow open fire or smoking inside the ship; not to use or to store drugs inside or in the vicinity of our ship (including weed/420/cannabis). This is not only because it is illegal (yes it is actually, although it is semi-official allowed to buy and to smoke cannabis inside coffee shops), but mostly because of odour nuisance and safety. Please feel free to smoke as much weed as you can handle inside a coffee shop, but not in or near our ship, thank you. not to ware (high) heels. Shoes with (high) heels damage the paint and cause noise throughout the entire ship; to only throw toilet paper into the toilet. Any other objects or materials will harm the sewage pump which leads to severe damage, discomfort, and disturbance. For example, in case the pump collapses, nobody on the ship will be able to flush the toilet, to shower, or to tap water for an unknown amount of time, probably all day or for two days, until it is repaired. Thank you! However, if you decide to violate our house rules, we will contact AirBnB, and we will ask you to leave immediately, in regard to the safety and comfort of other guests and ourselves. Without restitution of your booking.
