The Harrison Porsche Collection Ex Targa Florio & Le Mans GT class-winning 1976 Porsche 934 Chassis #930 670 0157 (930 670 0177 ) Exceptionally Historic 934 Raced at Targa Florio in 1976 Raced at Le Mans in 1979, 1980 & 1981 600bhp 934/5 3.0 Turbo engine F.I.A. Historic Technical Passport 2008 Le Mans Classic participant Fully documented ownership history file

Introduced in 1976, essentially the Porsche 934 was a Group 4 GT race version of the Porsche 930 Turbo road car. Having qualified for Group 4 by building a minimum of four hundred 930 Turbos in two consecutive model years, Porsche then built thirty one 934 race cars. Taking a standard galvanized 930 bodyshell, the 934 was built up with an aluminium roll cage for added stiffness and safety. Inside the cockpit was left bare except for a single RSRtype driver s race seat with safety harness and a few extra gauges for turbocharger boost. The car was similar to its production 930 counterpart with a 3.0 Turbo engine and the rules stated that the 934 had to retain the same engine spoiler as the road car and could therefore could not fit the bulky air-to-air intercooler used on the previous model Turbo RSR. Instead Porsche had to devise a clever method of cooling the charged intake gases using water radiators mounted in the front spoiler which fed water back to the engine compartment were two cooler cores were fitted, above which air came in through a finned plenum chamber lowering the temperature from 300 F to 120 F. The front compartment carried a 144 litre fuel cell, a front mounted oil tank and battery and was visibly strengthened with a large aluminium cross brace fitted over all. 917 finned brake callipers were also fitted with ventilated cross-drilled disc brakes, stronger wheel hubs and centre lock 10.5 front and 16 inch rear wheels. In January 1976, having seen the Prototype 934 test times at the Nürburgring driven by

Manfred Schurti lapping fifteen seconds faster than any Carrera RSR ever had, most of the racing teams who had been contesting the European GT Championship in RSR s bought 934 s. History of Chassis # 930 670 0157 (930 670 0177 ) 1976 1977! Guiseppe Bianco (I) 1977 1980! Roland Ennequien (F) 1981 1984! Valentin Bertapelle (F) 1984 2010! Manfred Freisinger (D) 2010 -!! Harrison Collection (MC) 0157 was the 15 th 934 to be produced and was delivered new in 1976 via Italian dealer Boldrin to Guiseppe Bianco. The car was first raced with the Jolly Club Team and took part mostly in Porsche championship races with different partners and sponsors. Bianco s greatest success however was the overall win at the 1976 Targa Florio with co-pilot Luigi Tammasini ( Tambouto ). After this event the car was converted to 945/5 specification for a championship race in Zeltweg and then later in the hands of Tambouto another win was taken in the European GT Championship as Misano. In 1977, Bainco then drove the car for a few further races in the Italian Championship. The car is then believed to have been sold in 1977 or 1978 to Roland Ennequin, of Paris. Its next race appearance was in March 1979,

entered by Kores Racing and driven by George Bourdillat and Alain-Michel Bernard at the Mugello 6 hour race in Italy. They retired after damage to the turbo charger. One month later Roland Ennequin and Georges Bourdillat raced the car Dijon, but retired again after 20 laps. The car was then entered for Le Mans in 1979 with Bourdillat / Ennequin / Bernard who finished 16 th overall and 2 nd in GT-Class. Two more races followed in 1979 - the Brand Hatch 6 hours race and the Vallelunga 6 hours. In 1980 Roland Ennequin entered the car again for the Le Mans 24 hours and the car was given a new colour scheme finished in black with pink diamonds, finishing 2 nd in class and 24 th overall. On the 18 th of November 1980 the car was sold to the Alsace Citroen-dealer Valentin Berapelle from Wietelsheim. In June 1981 Valentin Bertapelle, Thierry Perrier and Bernard Salam took part at the 24 hours of Le Mans. The fourth time for the car and the most successful one with 3,737.439 kilometres covered in 24 hours equating to an average speed of nearly 156km/h. The car finished 1 st in class and 16 th overall. 1981 was the transition year of Group 5 to Group C and changes GT class. The old special-

GT-cars of Group 4 were replaced with the new close-to-production GT-cars of group B. There are no known further international races for the car. Two years later on the 6 th of June 1983 the car was sold by Bertapelle to the company Manfred Freisinger in Karlsruhe, for which there is original documentation on file and a document from the customs office Karlsruhe-Rheinhafen. However when Freisinger bought the car from Bertapelle it had the chassis number 930 670 0177. When and why these changes have been made cannot be explained, but is thought to probably have been due to customs carne swaps, which was common practise to share between cars as they were difficult to obtain. Carnes where required when transporting race cars across borders in the old Europe when being raced abroad. In their research from the forthcoming book on 934 s, Jürgen Barth and Bernd Dobronz confirm that according to their enquiries with the organisers of the Le Mans 24 hrs, The Automobile Club de l Ouest, that this 934 had the chassis number 930 670 0157 at the Le Mans races mentioned below and in their opinion the identity of this car is 0157 and not 0177. (Note: 930 670 0177, also happens to be a genuine 934 with Le Mans history in some of some of the same years 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1980).

The car was stored by Freisinger, until 2007 when a comprehensive restoration took place, which was completed in 2008. Freisinger restored the car as it was in 1981 after it left the race track at Le Mans, finished pink and with all labels of the last sponsors. In 2011, the car was acquired by the Harrison collection directly from Freisinger. The condition of the car postrestoration remains very original yet has also been correctly prepared for historic racing having returned to the Sarthe circuit to race at Le Mans Classic in 2008. During preparation, the aluminium roll cage (no longer permitted for competition use) was replaced with a steel cage, along with other necessary updates to extinguisher, race seat and belts etc and has been issued with current FIA HTP paperwork by DMSB (Deutscher Motor Sport Bund e.v.) The car is still fitted with a 934/5 3.0 Turbo (Type 930/73) mechanical injection engine capable of 600hp. We are delighted to offer this immensely historic 3 times Le Mans and Targa Florio car, which comes complete with a fully documented history file, which includes original period paperwork relating to the ownership and registration changes, together with current FIA HTP paperwork. An opportunity to acquire an extremely historic Le Mans 24hr participating Porsche, highly eligible for Le Mans Classic 2012 (Grid 6) as well as being a very worthy addition to any serious Porsche collection. Price POA Our sincere thanks go to Jürgen Barth, Bernd Dobronz and Ulrich Trispel in helping research the history of this car.
