Summary of operational experience Diesel engines designed for heavy fuel operation can use bio fuels without significant modifications Due to the natural oxygen content in bio fuels - NOx emissions are slightly higher - Soot emissions are significantly lower in part load operation Due to the lack of sulphur in the fuel: no SO x emissions Because of the lower calorific value of biofuel compared to HFO the engine output is typically derated by 5 % (for 37 MJ/kg) < 7 >
