Instruction Sheet P/N 7 5A Solenoid Valve Installation Kit WARNING: Allow only qualified personnel to perform the following tasks. Follow the safety instructions in this document and all other related documentation.. Introduction WARNING: Risk of burns! The spool in a 4-way piloted valve may change position during shipment. However, the first time the valve is pressurized, the spool will return to the correct position. Do not guess which valve ports to plug. Doing so can create a normally open gun. Follow the procedures in this instruction sheet to correctly plug and install a 4-way piloted valve for use as a -way valve. When installed correctly, Nordson 5-ported, 4-way piloted solenoid valves can be used as normally closed -way valves. This instruction sheet contains the procedure for installing a 4-way valve for use as a normally closed -way valve and for connecting the valve to a power supply/timer. This instruction sheet also contains the procedure for installing a quick-disconnect fitting that allows easy installation and removal of solenoid valves. A solenoid valve may be either a Series 400 valve or a Series 800 valve. An installation kit must be ordered separately for each type of valve. Refer to Parts at the end of this instruction sheet for the kit part numbers. Be sure to use the appropriate procedure in this instruction sheet for the type of solenoid valve you are installing. The completed installation may be described as a 5-ported, 4-way solenoid valve operating as a -way valve. The input is through port and the output is through port.. Solenoid Valve Installation Use the following procedures to install a 5-ported, 4-way piloted solenoid valve for use as a normally closed -way valve, to install a quick-disconnect fitting (if desired), and to connect a solenoid valve to a power supply/timer.
Solenoid Valve Installation Kit Preparing for Installation Complete this procedure before installing a solenoid valve. WARNING: System or material pressurized. Relieve pressure. Failure to observe may result in serious burns.. Relieve hydraulic pressure by following the instructions in the applicator manual. WARNING: Risk of electrical shock. Disconnect equipment from line voltage. Failure to observe may result in equipment damage, personal injury, or death.. Turn off the applicator; then disconnect and lock out electrical power to the applicator. Installing a Series 400 Valve Use this procedure to install a Series 400 solenoid valve. WARNING: Risk of personal injury. If plugged or installed incorrectly, a solenoid valve will operate as normally open, which means the gun to which the valve is attached will turn on and stay on until the air supply is interrupted at the source. Be sure to properly plug and install solenoid valves. NOTE: See Figure when installing a Series 400 solenoid valve.. Install the / 8 NPT pipe plug (item 4) in port 5.. Install the / 8 NPT silencer (item ) in port.. Install the / 4 NPT pipe plug (item 5) in port 4. 4. Install the / 4 to / 8 NPT bushing (item 7) in port.
Solenoid Valve Installation Kit NOTE: If desired, you can install a quick-disconnect fitting between the valve and the bushing. The quick-disconnect fitting allows easy installation and removal of solenoid valves. Refer to Parts for the quick-disconnect kit part number. Refer to Installing a Quick-Disconnect Fitting to install the quick-disconnect fitting. 5. Connect the / 8 NPT pipe nipple (item 6) to the bushing installed in port. 6. Connect an air supply line to port. NOTE: The boxed numbers in the figure represent the valve port numbers. 4 5 4 5 7 6 46040 Fig. Installing a Series 400 Solenoid Valve. Connect the other end of the pipe nipple to the gun s air inlet port.
4 Solenoid Valve Installation Kit Installing a Series 800 Valve Use this procedure to install a Series 800 valve. WARNING: Risk of personal injury. If plugged or installed incorrectly, a solenoid valve will operate as normally open, which means the gun to which the valve is attached will turn on and stay on until the air supply is interrupted at the source. Be sure to properly plug and install solenoid valves. NOTE: See Figure when installing a Series 800 solenoid valve.. Install the / 4 NPT pipe plug (item ) in port 5.. Install the / 4 NPT silencer (item 4) in port 4.. Install the / 4 NPT pipe plug (item 7) in port. 4. Install the / 4 to / 8 NPT bushing (item 5) in port. NOTE: If desired, you can install a quick-disconnect fitting between the valve and the bushing. The quick-disconnect fitting allows easy installation and removal of solenoid valves. Refer to Parts for the quick-disconnect kit part number. Refer to Installing a Quick-Disconnect Fitting to install the quick-disconnect fitting. 5. Connect a / 8 NPT pipe nipple (item 6) to the bushing installed in port.

6 Solenoid Valve Installation Kit Installing a Quick-Disconnect Fitting If you wish to install a quick-disconnect fitting to allow easy installation and removal of a solenoid valve, order a quick-disconnect kit and complete this procedure. Refer to Parts for the quick-disconnect kit part number.. Disconnect the bushing and pipe nipple from the solenoid valve (port ).. Install the / 4 NPT quick-disconnect male nipple in port.. Install the / 4 NPT female coupler on the bushing and pipe nipple. Tighten the coupler. 4. Connect the female coupler to the quick-disconnect nipple. These parts snap together. Solenoid Valve Installation Kit 7 Connecting a Solenoid Valve to a Power Supply/Timer Follow this procedure to connect a solenoid valve to a power supply/timer after the valve is installed on a gun. WARNING: Risk of electrical shock. Disconnect equipment from the line voltage.. Disconnect and lock out electrical power to the power supply/timer.. Remove the screw that secures the solenoid valve s terminal block and terminal block housing to the valve (see item in Figures or ). NOTE: The terminal block housing is the clear plastic piece with an mpm embossed on it.. Unplug the terminal block housing from the solenoid valve. Save the rubber washer. CAUTION: Risk of equipment damage. When removing the terminal block from the housing, do not attempt to pry the plug out of the housing from the plug face. Doing so can damage the prongs. Use the tool to press gently on the side of a prong, as shown in Figure 4. 4. Use an appropriate tool to push the terminal block out of the housing as shown in Figure 4. Press the tool gently against the edge of one of the prongs. Do not attempt to pry the plug out of the housing from the plug face. 4608 Fig. 4 Removing the Terminal Block from the Housing
8 Solenoid Valve Installation Kit CAUTION: A solenoid valve can be damaged if its voltage rating does not match the output voltage from the power supply/timer. Make sure the ratings match. 5. Thread two 8 AWG solid wires and a ground wire from the power supply/timer through the strain relief in the terminal block housing. 6. Loosen the screws for terminal blocks and ; then insert the two 8 AWG wires into the terminals and tighten the screws. NOTE: It does not matter which wire is connected to which terminal because the terminals are not polarity-sensitive. 7. Loosen the screw for the ground wire; then insert the ground wire and tighten the screw. 8. Snap the terminal block back into its housing. 9. Align the rubber washer on the terminal block housing; then plug the terminal block housing into the solenoid valve. CAUTION: Risk of equipment damage. Do not overtighten the securing screw in the following step. Overtightening the screw can break the terminal block housing. 0. Use the securing screw removed earlier to secure the terminal block housing to the solenoid valve.
