REMOVING THE FIREHAWK SECOND STAGE REGULATOR FROM THE INTERMEDIATE PRESSURE HOSE For Push-to-Connect Regulators 1. Make sure the air source is shut off before bleeding the system. 1. Firmly grasp the regulator hose in one hand and the intermediate pressure hose in the other. 2. Turn the Bypass Knob counter clockwise to bleed the system. 2. To disconnect pull the collar of the connector away from the plug. 3. Once the collar is away, pull the plug away from the connector. TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454 6

For Thread-to-Connect Regulators with separate Intermediate Pressure Hose. 1. Set aside two 3/4 open end wrenches. Note: Do not touch the cover while pressing the release buttons and retaining latches. Let the spring act on the cover. 2. Connect wrenches to fittings and loosen the connection. b. Allow the cover to drop into your palm. 3. Use Dental Burnishing Tool, P/N: 636060, to remove the O-ring from the Intermediate Pressure Hose. Discard the O-ring. c. Remove the spring from the regulator housing. FIREHAWK SECOND STAGE REGULATOR DISASSEMBLY Removing the Valve Assembly Summary 1. Remove the regulator cover, spring, and spring retainer. (See Removing the Regulator Cover, Spring, and Spring Retainer) 2. Remove the diaphragm. (See Removing the Diaphragm) 3. Remove the U-clip from the regulator housing. (See Disassembling the Bypass and Hose with Swivel) 4. Remove the bypass insert when applicable. Removing the Regulator Cover and Spring 1. Remove the regulator cover. a. Press and hold the release buttons while pressing the regulator housing retaining latches. d. Turn the spring clockwise to remove it from the retainer. Note: Do not stretch the spring. REMOVING THE SPRING AND SPRING RETAINER (PURGE COVER ONLY) 1. Push the outside center (rubber) regulator cover IN. Note: Do not pull the spring to remove the spring retainer. 2. Lift up on the spring retainer to remove it from the regulator cover. 7 TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454

REMOVING THE SPRING FROM THE SPRING RETAINER 1. Twist the spring clockwise to remove it from the spring retainer. Note: Do not stretch the spring. Disassembling the Bypass and Hose with Swivel 1. Remove the regulator cover, spring, and spring retainer. Note: It is not necessary to remove the diaphragm. Removing the Diaphragm 1. Remove the CBRN Shield (CBRN only). If Non-CBRN proceed to step 2. 2. Use a small, flat-blade screwdriver to remove the U-clip. Handle the CBRN Shield by the rim only. a. Lift the CBRN Shield Assembly and Spring Cap off the diaphragm assembly. 3. Remove the bypass knob. b. Lift the Spring Cap off the CBRN Shield Assembly. 2. Roll the edge off the regulator housing. 4. Remove the bypass body U-Clip. 3. Slide the diaphragm away from the bypass handwheel off the valve fork. 5. Remove the bypass and hose assembly by pulling the hose out of the bypass body. DISASSEMBLING THE ONE-PIECE BYPASS AND HOSE WITH SWIVEL 6. Remove the hose assembly o-ring. Be careful not to scratch the o-ring groove. 1. Remove the regulator cover, spring, and spring retainer. Note: It s not necessary to remove the diaphragm. 2. Use a small, flat blade screwdriver to remove the U- clip. 3. Turning the bypass counter clockwise, unscrew the bypass from the regulator body. 7. Inspect the second groove of the hose swivel. If dirty, all dirt and foreign matter must be removed before reassembling the bypass body. 8. Use the plastic stick or small flat blade screwdriver to push the screen out of the bypass body. Inspect the bypass screen. Remove all dirt and foreign matter before reinstalling the screen. 4. Remove the bypass knob. Note: M7XT and non-bypass Regulators do not have this insert. 5. Remove the bypass body U-clip. Note: Use the bypass body as a tool to unscrew the bypass insert. 6. Remove the bypass and hose assembly by pulling the hose out of the bypass body. a. Use the o-ring removal tool to remove the bypass insert. 9 TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454

7. Inspect the bypass assembly threads (P/N 10145198) for any metal flakes or particles. Inspect the o-ring (P/N 697453 for any metal flakes, particles. 13. Lift the valve out of the regulator housing. If metal flakes or particles are found, the valve assembly, bypass assembly and o-ring components must be replaced. New parts can be ordered using the FireHawk M7XT Regulator Replacement Kit (P/N 10163047). 14. Inspect the valve assembly threads for any metal flakes or particles. 8. Clean the bypass using a lint free cloth. 9. Inspect the cleaned bypass and valve for signs of wear, burrs or rough spots on the metal. If wear or damage is found on the cleaned bypass assembly, the valve assembly, bypass assembly, and o-ring must be replaced. New parts can be ordered using the FireHawk M7XT Regulator Replacement Kit (P/N 10163047). 10. Remove the hose assembly O-ring. Be careful not to scratch the O-ring groove. 11. Inspect the second groove of the hose swivel. If dirty, all dirt and foreign matter must be removed before reassembling the bypass body. 12. Use the plastic stick or small flat blade screwdriver to push the screen out of the bypass body. Discard screen. If metal flakes or particles are found, the valve assembly, bypass assembly and o-ring components must be replaced. New parts can be ordered using the FireHawk M7XT Regulator Replacement Kit (P/N 10163047). 15. Clean the threads of valve assembly using a lint free cloth. 16. Inspect the cleaned bypass and valve for signs of wear, burrs or rough spots on the metal. If wear or damage is found on the valve assembly threads, the valve assembly, bypass assembly, and o- ring must be replaced. New parts can be ordered using the FireHawk M7XT Regulator Replacement Kit (P/N 10163047) 17. Check Valve Fork Height. Disassembling the Regulator Housing Buttons Adjustment Wheel 1. Remove the old o-rings. Be careful not to scratch the o-ring groove. 1. Press the top of the valve fork to check movement. Valve Housing Valve Locking Tab Fork Valve Support 2. Use the Height Gauge to verify the fork height setting. a. Discard the ring. Note: Firehawk regulators use one of two valve assemblies: P/N 10087295 or P/N 10030664. Use the appropriate Gauge. 2. The spring will push the button from the housing. Valve Assembly Height Gauge* PN 10087295 PN 10090457 If your valve assembly looks like this: Use this height gauge a. Be careful not to lose the spring. b. Remove the old o-ring. Be careful not to scratch the o-ring groove. c. Discard the o-ring. Removing the Seal Ring Valve Assembly Height Gauge* PN 10030664 PN 10050146 If your valve assembly looks like this Use this height gauge 1. Use the o-ring removal tool to remove the seal ring. a. Discard the seal ring. Inspection of the Valve Fork for Proper Height Inspect and adjust valve fork height with the valve fork pointing toward you. The valve fork assembly must move up and down freely. *See Firehawk M7 Second Stage Regulator Replacement and Overhaul Kits/Height Gauge Kits for ordering information. 3. Center the Gauge in the valve fork. 11 TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454

Note: Ensure that the valve assembly is vertical and can move freely. Note: If the top of the valve fork is above or below the acceptable range, adjust the valve. Normally the valve fork will not require adjustment. Do not adjust the valve if the fork is within the acceptable range. Adjusting Valve Fork Height for Proper Performance Acceptable range Adjustment of Valve Fork if Above the Maximum Inspect and adjust valve fork height with the valve fork pointing toward you. Turn the Adjustment Wheel clockwise to lower the fork. Turn the Adjustment Wheel counterclockwise to raise the fork. 4. The top of the valve fork must be within the acceptable range. Acceptable Valve Fork Heights Above maximum height Top of fork above top of acceptable range. Nominal height Top of fork level with center of acceptable range. 1. Slide the adjustment wheel and valve housing slightly away from the valve support to allow the adjustment wheel to rotate. Note: The adjustment wheel cannot turn unless the ribs are free from the locking tab. Maximum Height Top of fork level with top of acceptable range. Ribs Locking Tab Ribs Locking Tab 2. Turn the adjustment wheel clockwise to lower the fork. 3. Slide the adjustment wheel and valve housing back into place. Ensure that the valve lever and fork do not bind. Adjustment for Valve Fork if Below the Minimum Below minimum height Top of fork is below acceptable range. Installing the Regulator Housing and Buttons P/N 10047331 P/N 10047238 1. Apply a thin film of Christo-Lube lubricant (P/N 809028) to the new o-rings. 1. Slide the adjustment wheel and valve housing slightly away from the valve support to allow the adjustment wheel to rotate. 2. Turn the adjustment wheel counterclockwise to raise the fork. Note: The adjustment wheel cannot turn unless the ribs are free from the locking tab. 2. Install new o-rings on the button posts. 3. Install the springs. 4. Align the buttons. Ribs Locking Tab Ribs Locking Tab Note: With the bypass at 9:00, the slide button is at 12:00 and the housing button is at 6:00. 5. Push firmly on the buttons. 6. Double check proper engagement by pulling on the buttons. Installing the Valve Assembly P/N 10087295 P/N 10030664 3. Slide the valve housing back into place. Ensure that the valve lever and fork do not bind. The fork should move up and down easily. Firehawk Second Stage Regulator Reassembly Installing the Regulator Seal Ring 1. Apply a thin film of Christo-Lube lubricant (P/N 809028) to the new o-ring. 1. Insert the valve into the regulator housing with the valve fork up and facing away from the bypass port. 2. Roll the new o-ring onto the regulator outlet and seat it into the o-ring groove. 2. Push the valve into the regulator housing. 3. Re-check Valve Fork Height. (See Adjusting Valve Fork Height for Proper Performance) Reinstall the bypass insert. 1. Install a new o-ring. Note: the M7XT uses a single piece bypass. Note: An unseated seal can cause an air leak. 13 TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454

a. Protect the o-ring with tape or a thin piece of paper. Note: Be careful not to damage the screen. Make sure that the screen lays flat inside the body. b. Apply a small amount of Christo-Lube lubricant (P/N 809028) to the o-ring and threaded portion of bypass insert. 2. Apply a thin film of Christo-Lube lubricant (P/N 809028) to a new o- ring. c. Slip the o-ring over the thread. 3. Install the new o-ring into the first groove of the hose swivel. d. Remove the protective tape or paper. 4. Apply a thin film of Christo-Lube lubricant (P/N 809028) into the second groove of the hose swivel. 2. Install the bypass insert into the bypass port with the slot facing out. 5. Insert the swivel into the bypass body. 3. Use the bypass body to screw the bypass insert into the valve. Hand tighten. Note: If the bypass insert does not screw into the valve assembly easily, the valve assembly may not be properly aligned. Ensure that the valve assembly is seated fully in the regulator housing. 6. Slide the U-clip through the bypass body. INSTALLING THE TWO-PIECE BYPASS AND HOSE ASSEMBLY 1. Install a new bypass screen (P/N 10020784). Note: The U-clip should slide through the bypass body freely. TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454 14

Note: Be careful not to damage the screen. Make sure that the screen lays flat inside the bypass body. 7. Slide the bypass knob onto the bypass body. 2. Apply a thin film of Christo-Lube lubricant (PN 809028) to a new O-ring. 3. Install the new O-ring into the first groove of the hose swivel. 8. Insert the bypass body and hose assembly into the regulator housing so that the bypass body tabs line up with the slots in the bypass insert. 4. Apply a thin film of Christo-lube (PN 809028) into the second groove of the hose swivel. 9. Ensure that the hose with swivel moves freely. 5. Install the swivel into the bypass body. 10. Slide the U-clip through the regulator housing. Note: The U-clip should slide through the regulator housing freely. 6. Slide the U-clip through the bypass body. INSTALLING THE ONE-PIECE BYPASS AND HOSE ASSEMBLY Note: The U-clip should slide through the bypass body freely. 1. Install a new bypass screen (P/N 10020784). 7. Lubricate the threads of the bypass with Christo-Lube (P/N 604070). 15 TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454

8. Apply the lubricant to several spots on the valve threads and smooth out the lubricant over the threads. Note: The area between the threads should be filled with lubricant, see picture above. Note: the U-clip should slide through the regulator body freely. Installing the Diaphragm 1. Apply a thin coat of Christo-Lube to the top rim of the regulator housing. Note: Omit step 1 for Non-CBRN regulators. 2. Slide the diaphragm knob into the valve fork slot. 9. Slide the bypass knob onto the bypass body. 3. Slide the diaphragm toward the bypass handwheel. 4. Roll the diaphragm over the regulatorhousing rim. 10. Insert the bypass body and hose assembly into the regulator body. Turn the bypass body clockwise to install the bypass body into the regulator body. 11. Ensure the hose with swivel moves freely. 12. Slide U-Clip through the regulator housing, securing one-piece bypass in place. Installing the CBRN Shield (CBRN Only) P/N 10044026 1. Push the shut off buttons in for OFF position. Note: While installing the Shield, the valve fork must be in the UP position. 2. Apply a thin coating of Christo-Lube lubricant (P/N 809028) to the bottom of the Shield Assembly. 3. Place the CBRN Shield over the diaphragm assembly. 4. Install the spring cap and lightly tap to breathe trapped air under the shield. TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454 16

Installing the Regulator Cover and Spring Spring P/N 10097471 Regulator Cover, Purge P/N 10047441 Regulator Cover, Non-Purge P/N 10047664 Note: The Solid Regulator Cover does not use a spring retainer. a. Pull the stem through the retainer. 1. Insert the spring into solid cover. a. Slide the spring onto a finger. b. Insert spring and finger into the solid cover. c. Attach last coil of spring to cover hooks. 2. Hold the spring in the center of the cover. 7. Double check proper engagement by lifting spring retainer. 8. Push regulator cover, spring, and spring retainer onto regulator housing. 9. Visually inspect the tabs. Make sure both are properly engaged. Double check proper engagement of both retaining latches by visual inspection to ensure that the regulator cover is securely attached to the regulator housing. Failure to follow this warning could cause the regulator to malfunction resulting in serious personal injury or death. RECONNECTING THE FIREHAWK SECOND STAGE REGULATOR TO THE INTERMEDIATE PRESSURE HOSE For Push-to-Connect Regulators 3. Engage the last coil of the spring to each of the three (3) molded hooks. 4. Ensure that the last coil of the spring is engaged to each of the three (3) molded hooks. 5. Attach spring and spring retainer (Purge models only) by attaching last coil to retainer hooks. 6. Install the spring retainer. 1. Firmly grasp the regulator hose in one hand and the intermediate pressure hose in the other. Insert the plug into the coupler. The Collar will move away and snap back on its own. Check Connection by pulling plug and coupler end away from one another, it should remain connected. For Thread-to-Connect Regulators with separate Intermediate Pressure Hose 1. Apply Christo-Lube, P/N: 809028, to the intermediate pressure hose O-ring P/N: 63198. 17 TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454

Flow Test the SCBA (See Flow Test and Overhaul Requirements, P/N 10051109) 2. Install the new O-ring. FIREHAWK SECOND STAGE REGULATOR TROUBLESHOOTING - Failure of static facepiece pressure (0.6-1.5 IWC) or failure of dynamic breathing tests (upper graph): - Check diaphragm condition and replace if necessary - Check and if necessary, adjust lever height on valve 3. Hand tighten swivel hex fitting until it is snug then take an in-lb torque wrench with a 3/4 crows foot, set to 125 +/- 5in-lbs, to torque the connection down. - Check bypass screen for foreign matter and replace if necessary. - Replace diaphragm spring. - Replace valve core assembly, inspect housing for cracks, replace if damaged. - For leakage when Bypass Valve is closed, check and replace Bypass Valve Insert Assembly P/N 10018971 and o-ring P/N: 697453. For single bypass assemblies check and replace Bypass Assemblies P/N: 10145198 and O-ring P/N: 697453 TAL 1701 (L) Rev. 2-10147454 18
