To make a choice between our RM (Regular Maintenance), LM (Low Maintenance) and ZM (Zero Maintenance) products, there are a number of important parameters that must be carefully considered: Application: the more a battery is cycled, the greater the need for maintenance. You can reduce these costs by as much as a factor of 7 by using LM technology instead of RM. Traditional or maintenance-free: depending upon the environment where the battery is used, a battery with gelled electrolyte may be a wise choice. Sectors that come to mind include the food distribution chain and medical and chemical products. Budget: the graphs can help you select the battery that meets your expectations in respect of battery life expectancy. In this way you choose the best investment for your needs. Discharge depth according to IEC254-1 To estimate the discharge depth, simply compare the capacity of the machine with the machine s expected application. Example: for a street cleaning machine with a capacity of 2000m 2 and a car park covering of 1000m2, the discharge depth is 50%. EDRIVE RM LM ZM LM: When a battery is fully discharged and recharged each day, the required maintenance can be quite intensive. In that case, choose LM (Low Maintenance) because these cells are designed for 70 cycles between each maintenance routine. Thanks to a special charger, which features a Low Maintenance charging profile and impulse technology, good distribution of the electrolyte is assured. We give preference to LM technology as opposed to acid circulation, because its advantages are retained while the disadvantages are avoided. EDRIVE RM LM ZM SPECIFICATIONS BS LM ZM: ZM stands for Zero Maintenance, i.e. completely maintenance-free. This saves up to 30% in labour costs. Expensive charging areas are not needed because these cells produce practically no gas at all. A limited range of ZM cells is available according to DIN and BS standards, with capacities from 110 to 1200Ah ensuring maximum capacity for your specific applications. Optionally suitable for use in Ex hazard areas where stringent safety requirements apply. Life expectancy: 1000 cycles at 80% discharge. Damage due to incorrect maintenance is ruled out since the electrolyte used in the battery is in a gel form. Safe for use in the pharmaceutical and food industries, and even in areas where many people are present. Complies with all health and food hygiene requirements, thereby eliminating the need to cover food before processing. Opportunity charging is possible (given a suitable charging system). After one year s storage at 20 C, at least 65% of the nominal capacity is available. 16

EDRIVE +AC: Acid circulation is an option that consists of a special charger with an air pump and hoses that supply air at the bottom of each cell. During the charging process, air is pumped into the cells in order to achieve forced circulation of the electrolyte, so that the water and acid are properly mixed again. Extensive charging, which shortens the life of the battery and increases water consumption, is therefore avoided. While EMROL supporting acid circulation and acknowledging its benefits for various customers, preference is nonetheless given to LM technology because of its quality, simplicity and lower cost.
