Technical Guidance Honda ECM/PCM Idle Learn A. You ll need to run this procedure when: (1) Replacing ECM/PCM () Resetting PCM (included clear fault code) (3) Disconnecting or replacing battery (4) Replacing or cleaning the throttle body and Idle motor ***See Notes on the proper way to clean the Throttle body*** (5) When the main power of engine or transmission is disassembled, such as fuse, control relay components and etc. B. Related functions: (1) ECU reset: when replace broken ECU, please execute ECM/PCM ECU reset to clear fault code and correct data. () TP Position Check: this test confirms if the TP learning value is within limits. The learning value depends on carbon accumulation around the throttle body and stored in the ECM/PCM. If it exceeds the limit, reset it and clean the throttle body at the same time. After ECU reset and TP position check, then Engine ECU will be in Idle learn status. (3) Idle learn: The idle learn procedure must be done so the ECM/PCM can learn the engine idle characteristics.
(4) Idle learn status: before idle learn, the status shows not complete. During idle learn, the status shows learning and radiator fan running intermittently. The learning process will be interrupted while fan is running and re-learn will resume when fan stops running. Let the engine idle until the idle learn procedure is complete. C. 1. Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio, lights, etc.) are off. Reset the PCM 3. Turn the ignition switch ON(II), and wait for secs 4. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3000 rpm without load (in Park or Neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, or until the engine coolant reaches 194 (90 ) 5. Let the engine idle for about 10 mins with the throttle fully closed 6. ELD 4.19 A MOUNT CTRL SOL Idle learn Learing ELD 4.19 A MOUNT CTRL SOL Idle learn Complete **** To properly clean an electronic throttle body you must use the proper cleaner. Have someone depress the accelerator pedal while the key is in the off position and engine is not running. This will open the throttle electronically instead of manually. By opening the throttle body manually you run the risk of damaging it. Once the throttle is open you may clean the inside gently removing any carbon buildup, grease or dirt that may be affecting the throttle body s performance.****
