STATE OF MINNESOTA EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATION Spring, 2017 1.0 SCOPE Page 1 of 2 CUSTOM TRAILER, SINGLE AXLE UTILITY FOR COLLAPSIBLE ROAD SIGNS The Contract Vendor shall provide custom built, single axle utility trailers for the transport of portable (collapsible) traffic signage, sandbags, traffic cones and barricade(s), as well as 4 x8 solar powered arrow boards. (Arrow board systems to be provided by the State and installed by the Contract Vendor.) The unit shall be complete with all equipment required and ready for immediate operation to function as listed below and the unit must meet applicable codes and standards. 2.0 Trailer, Collapsible Road Sign Requirements 2.1 Main frame of trailer shall be approximately 96 long by 84 wide and shall be constructed on 4 structural steel or aluminum channel. 2.2 Axle shall be a drop style torsion axle rated at minimum of 4000 lbs. with drum style electric brakes. 2.3 Tires shall be 15 radial trailer tires on steel wheels compatible with above axle. 2.4 Installed fenders shall allow for sufficient clearance when trailer is loaded. 2.5 Swivel type trailer jack to be installed on trailer tongue. 2.6 Trailer hall have adjustable pintle style hitch mounted on ½ plate. 2.7 Overall length of trailer shall not exceed 140. 2.8 Trailer shall include (2) ea. posts constructed of 2 pipe and approx. 24 tall for storage of traffic cones, as well as storage area for safe transport of qty. 6 10 ea. sandbags. 2.9 Lockable polyurethane type storage box to hold four MnDOT supplied deep cycle style batteries, solar charger regulator, and arrow board control module. 2.10 Arrow board (supplied by MnDOT) must be able to lie flat during transport, and trailer shall include arrow board lift with locking mechanism to raise and secure arrow board at job site. 2.11 Trailer shall have 4 ea. square tube-style barricade holders on street side of trailer. (*Note barricade dimensions are 48 center to center.) 2.12 Trailer shall include lighting package that meets ICC and FMVSS requirements. 2.13 Steel frames and all attached steel components shall be powder coated highway safety orange. Aluminum frames and attached aluminum components need not be powder coated. 2.14 Sign storage box area shall be approximately 6 L x 4 W with double rear doors and include the following: - 12 ea. compartments approx. 12 H x 12 W x 75 D - 16 ea. compartments approx. 8-3/4 H x 6 W x 72 D. - Compartments shall be securely bolted to frame w/door(s) to secure signage. - Compartments must allow for moisture drainage. 2.15 Manufacturer s Statement of Origin must be supplied at time of trailer delivery. 2.16 Trailer must meet all current Federal and Minnesota safety codes and must be able to pass Commercial Vehicle Inspection... 2.17 If trailer is equipped with electrical connector, connector is to be 7-pin, round, wired to match Mn/DOT s spec. (See Drawing A.) 2.18 All lighting shall be LED, and shall include a lighted license plate holder. 2.19 Trailer shall include hub meter. 2.20 Trailer to include approx. 33 H x 80 W rectangular curb side pivoting sign holder that swings to rear of trailer, constructed of ½ angle iron with pin style catch for holding traffic signage. 2.21 Responders must provide at no charge to the state detailed drawings or photos of trailer(s). The Contract Vendor may furnish (if available) non-proprietary, electronic digital cab/chassis illustration(s), in one of the following file formats;.igs,.sat, Parasolid, ProE or AutoDesk Inventor. The Contract Vendor shall furnish the electronic files at no additional cost to the purchaser.
2.22 Contract vendors should have experience in custom trailer building and be capable of producing multiple trailers in a timely manner as orders may be placed for several trailers at one time. 2.23 The responder shall state warranty for all items requested and submitted on pricing pages. The contract vendor shall be responsible for the cost of any inspections, adjustments, parts, labor, travel, pickup and/or delivery charges that are a result of equipment failure(s) during the warranty period. This shall be performed immediately without any delay period. This warranty shall commence when the unit is put into service. 2.24 The responder shall include and install everything needed so unit is complete and ready to use by the operator when offering trailer price. 3.0 Trailer Lighting and Wiring Specifications 3.1 Trailer shall meet or exceed all current Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations 393.9 thru 393.33. 3.2 Trailer cord plug shall meet SAE spec. J560 and wired directly to trailer cord. 3.3 Plug to be wired as follows: White-Ground return to towing vehicle Black-Electric brake controller or not utilized if trailer has air, hydraulic or no brakes Yellow-Left turn signal and hazard lamps (w/brake-not required) Red-Stop lamps and antilock device Green-Right turn signal and hazard lamps (w/brake-not required) Brown-Clearance, marker, and tail lights Blue: If air brake-continuous ABS power If electric brake-ign. controlled B+ for break away battery charge maintenance circuit. 3.4 No adaptors will be accepted. 3.5 Trailer cord to be wired to a weatherproof, 7-terminal junction block. Waytek part # 47290 or an approved equal. 3.6 All trailer light wiring, including ground wiring, must be routed to junction block. 3.7 Wire splices will be done with heat shrink butt connectors or soldered with heat-shrink. No wire nuts, closed end connectors or self-stripping displacement connectors (i.e. Scotch Loks). 3.8 All lights to be LED, with two individual brake, and two turn signal lights. File: 487-511
