1. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. UNCRATE MACHINE AND PLACE IN PROPER POSITION IN PLANT. 2. CHECK LEVEL OF MACHINE. IF OUT OF LEVEL, ADJUST LEVELING SCREWS ON MACHINE BASE ACCORDINGLY. 3. CONNECT MACHINES PANEL BOX TO PLANT POWER SUPPLY. 4. CONNECT MACHINE TO PLANTS AIR SUPPLY. 5. FILL BOWL WITH PARTS. 6. MACHINE IS NOW READY TO OPERATE. THE FEEDER SHOULD BE SET ON A SOLID FOUNDATION OR RIGID FRAME. BY NO MEANS SHOULD THE UNIT BE BOLTED INTO OPERATION POSITION. EACH RUBBER FOOT SHOULD BE CONFINED SO AS NOT ALLOW THE UNIT TO MOVE WHEN ENERGIZED. ONCE AGAIN, DO NOT ATTATCH CHUTES, TRACKS OR OTHER RIGID ITEMS TO THE BOWL OR BASIC UNIT AS THIS INTERFERES WITH ITS VIBRATORY ACTION. THIS IS A TUNED DEVICE AND WE CANNOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE OPERATION OF FEEDERS THAT HAVE BEEN MODIFIED WITHOUT PREVIOUS SANCTION BY TARPON AUTOMATION OR A REPRESENTATIVE THEREOF.

2. MAINTENANCE AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS FOR TARPON PART FEEDERS (VIBRATORY BOWLS AND BASIC UNITS) EACH TARPON PART FEEDER CONSISTS OF A STAINLESS STEEL VIBRATORY BOWL AND A HEAVY BASIC UNIT POWERED BY A MAGNETIC COIL. THE MANUAL IS TO HELP ACQUAINT ONE WITH THE CARE AND OPERATION OF THIS FEEDER, AS EACH IS BUILT SEPARATELY FOR A SPECIFIC UNIT. BASIC UNIT THE BASIC UNIT, WHICH DRIVES THE FEEDER BOWL, CONSISTS OF A HEAVY, TWO-INCH PLATE MANY TIMES THE WEIGHT OF THE BOWL TO BE DRIVEN. UPON THIS PLATE ARE HOUSED FOR BANKS OF LEAF SPRINGS. THESE SPRINGS ARE ATTACHED TO FOUR ARMS UPON WHICH THE BOWL IS MOUNTED. ALSO MOUNTED TO THE CROSSARMS IS THE STRIKER PLATE. THIS PLATE WORKS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE MAGNETIC COIL TO POWER THE UNIT. THE COIL ITSELF IS ADJUSTABLE BY LOOSENING THE BOLTS AT ITS BASE AND CAN BE MOVED IN AND OUT FROM THE STRIKER PLATE. THE AIR GAP IS SET AT OUR PLANT AND SHOULD NOT BE READJUSTED UNLESS IT IS FOUND TO BE DEFINITELY OUT OF ADJUSTMENT. TARPON AUTOMATION BASIC UNITS ARE AVAILABLE IN FIVE STANDARD SIZES (DEPENDING ON THE BOWL SIZE OR POWER NEEDED TO DRIVE A CERTAIN PART). THEY ARE THE T-12, T-15, T-20, T-24, AND T-30 UNITS. THE NUMERALS STAND FOR THE SIZE OF THE SQUARE PLATE ON THAT PARTICULAR UNIT. IF ANY PROBLEMS ARISE, THIS NUMBER WILL BE HELPFUL TO US WHEN COMMUNICATING THE NATURE OF THIS PROBLEM THAT MAY OCCUR. EACH TARPON PART FEEDER IS FURNISHED WITH A SEPARATE CONTROLLER, WHICH CONSISTS OF A DIAL RHEOSTAT OPERATING ON 60 CYCLE AC CURRENTS. IN OPERATION, THE COIL IS ENERGIZED BY ALTERING CURRENT, CREATING A MAGNETIC FIELD WITH THE COIL CORE ATTRACTING THE STRIKER PLATE, DEFLECTING THE ANGULARLY MOUNTED SPRINGS, AND SPRIALING THE BOWL DOWNWARD. UPON DE-ENERGIZING, THE SPRINGS REBOUND, THUS CREATING THE UPWARD SPIRALING MOVEMENT OF THE BOWL. THE DIAL RHEOSTAT EASILY CONTROLS THE RATE OF THIS MOVEMENT.

3. TUNING BOWL FEEDERS ALL TARPON PART FEEDERS ARE TUNED AT THE PLANT AND SHOULD REQUIRE NO ALTERATION IN THE FIELD. IF AT SOME TIME THE UNIT DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY (AS IN THE CASE OF A BROKEN SPRING OR EXCESSIVE WEIGHT IN THE BOWL) THE FOLLOWING STEPS SHOULD BE TAKEN. 1. DISCONNECT ALL POWER TO THE UNIT 2. CHECK THE OBVIOUS. ANY RIGID OBJECT ATTATCHED TO THE BASE OR BOWL WILL PREVENT ANY VIBRATION AND CAUSE THE UNIT TO STOP OPERATING. 3. DETERMINE IF THE UNIT IS DEFECTIVE. IF THE CASE OF A BROKEN SPRING IT IS QUITE CLEAR. REPLACEMENT OF THE SPRING SHOULD REGAIN THE FEEDERS NORMAL CHARACTERISTICS. EXCESSIVE WIEGHT WOULD ALSO CAUSE A FEEDER TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP ALL TOGETHER. THIS SHOULD BE CHECKED BY REMOVING PARTS TO THE TWO LAYER DEPTH RECOMMENDED. IF THIS FAILS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM, ADDITIONAL TUNING WOULD SEEM TO BE IN ORDER. 4. A BASIC UNIT CAN BE EITHER OVERSPRUNG OR UNDERSPRUNG IF IT FAILS TO DRIVE PROPERLY. TO DETERMINE THIS, PICK THE BANK OF SPRINGS THAT CONTAINS THE MOST SPRINGS. IF ALL THE BANKS CONTAIN THE SAME NUMBER, CHOOSE THE BANK OPPISITE THE COIL. LOOSEN THE BOLTS IN THE CROSSARM AT THE TOP OF THE SPRINGS. IF THE UNIT RUNS FASTER, IT IS CONSIDERED TO BE OVERSPRUNG AND REMOVAL OF A SPRING IS NECESSARY. CONTRARILY, IF IT RUNS SLOWER, A SPRING SHOULD BE ADDED. KEEP IN MIND THAT IF A SPRING IS REMOVED; IT SHOULD BE TAKEN FROM THE BANK CONTAINING THE MOST SPRINGS. IF ONE SHOULD BE ADDED, IT SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE BANK CONTAINING THE LEAST NO MATTER WHERE IT IS POSITIONED ON THE UNIT. 5. IF FINER TUNING IS REQUIRED, THE AIR GAP CAN BE ADJUSTED. LOOSEN THE BOLTS AT THE BASE OF THE COIL AND MOVE THE COIL TOWARD THE STRIKER PLATE. TURN THE RHEOSTAT DIAL TO 80 AND ENERGIZE THE UNIT. IF A CLACKING NOISE IS HEARD, THE COIL IS STRIKING THE STRIKER PLATE AND MUST BE BACKED OFF A BIT. TARPON UNITS RUN BEST AT A POINT WHERE THE COIL AND STRIKER PLATE ALMOST MAKE CONTACT WHEN ENERGIZED, BUT NO NOISE IS PRESENT. 6. ALL TARPON UNITS ARE RUNED AT THE PLANT TO EXACT SPECIFICATIONS AND NO ALTERATIONS SHOULD BE MADE WITHOUT FIRST CONTACTING TARPON. IF ADVICE IS NEEDED THAT IS NOT SUPPLIED IN THE BROCHURE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US.

4. FEEDER CLEANING PROCEDURE 1. REMOVE ALL NUTS FROM BOWL 2. REMOVE PROX BRACKETS AND LEXAN COVERS FROM FEEDER TRACK. REMOVE NUTS FROM TRACK. 3. BLOW OUT BOWL AND TRACK WITH AIR NOZZLE. 4. WIPE DOWN BOWL AND TRACK WITH DEGREASER. 5. REMOVE ANY HARDENED DEBRIS FROM BOWL AND TRACK BY BRUSHING AND MINIMAL SCRAPING. 6. REPLACE LEXAN COVERS AND PROX BRACKETS. 7. TURN POWER ON AND HOPPER WILL REFILL BOWL.

5. OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS TURN THE CONTROLLER SWITCH ON. THE FEEDER SHOULD START VIBRATING WITH THE PARTS MOVING UP THE RAIL. THE RATE OF FEED CAN BE ADJUSTED BY TURNING THE DIAL ON THE RHEOSTAT IN THE CONTROLLER. OUR PART FEEDERS ARE GENERALLY FILLED BY USING AN AUXILIARY OFFSET-TYPE SUPPLY HOPPER, BUT CAN ALSO BE FILLED MANUALLY. IT IS RECOMMENDED BY TARPON THAT THE PARTS IN THE BOWL NOT EXCEED TWO LAYERS IN DEPTH. THE FEEDER SHOULD NEVER BE LIFTED BY THE BOWL, AS DEVIATION OF THE FIXED POSITION OF THE SPRINGS WILL CHANGE THE AIR GAP BETWEEN THE STRIKER PLATE AND COIL CORE. A SMALL CHANGE IN THE AIR GAP CAN CAUSE THE STRIKER PLATE AND COIL TO COLLIDE AND BE DAMAGED AND ALTER THE FEEDING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE UNIT. TARPON AUTOMATION STAINLESS STEEL VIBRATORY BOWL FEEDERS ARE HANDCRAFTED AND TOOLED TO FEED VARIOUS PARTS IN SPECIFIC ATTITUDES. ANY CHANGE IN ANY OF THE BOWL TOOLING (SWEEPS, SELECTORS, AIRJETS, ETC.) CAN CAUSE ALTERATION OF PARTS FLOW OR MAY STOP ALTOGETHER. IF THE FEEDER DOES NOT PERFORM SATISFACTORILY, THERE MAY BE ANY NUMBER OF REASONS FOR THIS OCCURRENCE. FEEL FREE TO CONTACT TARPON AUTOMATION BEFORE ALTERATION OF ANY PORTION OF A FEEDER.
