R ALTERNA DECK/BATH-MOUNT BATH FAUCET BEFORE YOU BEGIN NOTE Follow only the steps that apply to your installation. Observe all local plumbing and building codes. Advance planning before installation is crucial. Carefully read the entire instructions before beginning the installation, especially the Installation Planning And Preparation section. Component location, spacing, and situational requirements can vary. The illustrations do not show all configurations. Check for elbows and tubing needed. Dry fit the assemblies before soldering. Provide an access panel for all installations. older all connections from the diverter to the spout, and from the diverter to the hot and cold valves. Use hard-drawn tubing (type M, K, or L) from the valves to the diverter to the spout. Install water-hammer arresters in the supply line. Lever Handles: A quarter turn clockwise closes the hot valve, and a similar turn counterclockwise closes the cold valve. When using compression joints, recommends an assembly torque of 45 foot pounds (200 N) to 60 foot pounds (266 N) for compression nuts. From handtight, approximately 1/2 turn is needed to produce the required torque with hard-drawn tubing. Remove all internal components of the diverter valve before soldering. Excessive heat will damage the components. The vacuum breaker integral in the 3-way diverter unit provides backflow protection for the handshower and optional wall shower. Maximum deck thickness is 2-1/8 (5.4 cm) for the K-7909, and 2 (5 cm) for the K-7915. The spout can be installed with 5/8 copper tubing instead of the hoses provided. A reducer bushing kit allows the use of 1/2 O.D. copper tubing. TOOL AND MATERIAL REQUIRED Open end/adjustable wrenches Adjustable arc pliers crewdrivers oldering equipment and supplies 5/8 nominal (3/4 O.D.) and 3/8 nominal (1/2 O.D.) copper tubing (use hard-drawn for compression fittings) Plumbers putty Thread sealant NOTE: Confirm materials needed by dry fitting all components before beginning installation. 1

INTALLATION PLANNING AND PREPARATION ROUGHING-IN DIMENION For dimensional information, refer to roughing-in sheets for conforming to a specific installation or relocating of supply tubing. Turn off the hot and cold water supplies. COMPONENT LOCATION The suggested minimum deck size is approximately 28 (71.1 cm) long and 8 (20.3 cm) wide. Carefully plan the installation before beginning the roughing-in. quare Faucet Handles pout Wall hower Diverter Handshower NOTE: Many different configurations of the components are possible. Your installation may differ from that shown. Decide in advance the location and orientation of the diverter. Location of the other components and the direction the inlets/outlets point will affect the piping and connectors you will need. Materials which are not included, such as the wall shower, water-hammer arresters, and the piping between the components, will affect the location of the components. The minimum distance between the valves is limited by the handle size and the direction the outlets point. Allow clearance for the spout connection. The distance between the diverter and the heavy-duty hose connection can be extended with piping below the deck, but may not be safe or practical. A long run of piping will mean a long run of room-temperature standing water when the handshower is first activated for use. Determine the distance from the diverter to the other components, and to the wall and fixture. Allow sufficient working room for making the four soldered and one adapter connection to the diverter. CAUTION: Risk of product or property damage. Only the flange, sleeve and connecting pipe secure the diverter to the deck. To avoid damage to the diverter or piping during installation or maintenance, secure the diverter or piping near the diverter to the deck, or install support framing or bracketing. As supplied, the handspray should not be located more than approximately 30 (76.2 cm) from the diverter. This allows easy access to the connection between the decorative and heavy-duty hoses. DIVERTER CONFIGURATION Verify the placement of the components, and the orientation of the diverter ports. The lowest two ports are labeled HAND H. for hand shower, and WALL H. for wall-mount shower. The middle tier of ports are interchangeable hot and cold ports. The highest port is for the spout. Hot, cold, and spout ports accept 5/8 nominal (3/4 O.D.) tubing for direct connection. The wall and handshower ports accept 3/8 nominal (1/2 O.D.) tubing. Adapt the wall shower port to 1/2 nominal as necessary. NOTE: oldered connections are recommended on all ports except the handshower port. WALL H. Port Hot Or Cold Port Fig. #2 Diverter Hot Or Cold Port pout Port HAND H. Port 3

Make sure the valve marked COLD is on the right side when you are facing the front of the faucet. Escutcheon Gasket lide a gasket on each valve, and loosely thread an escutcheon to each valve. Do not securely tighten at this time. Adjust the orientation of the valve bodies to provide sufficient clearance to connect the hoses to the tee and the valve body outlets. Fig. #7 INTALL HANDLE Close the valves by turning the hot valve stem fully clockwise, and the cold valve stem counterclockwise. Position a skirt and spline adapter over each valve stem. Temporarily fit a handle assembly to each spline adapter, and check the handle alignment. Remove the handle assemblies. Insert the screws through the spline adapters and thread into the valve stems. Thread the skirts into the handle assemblies. Thread the escutcheons up or down so a 1/8 (3 mm) gap exists between the bottom of the skirts and the top of the escutcheons. Confirm proper handle alignment, then securely wrench tighten the valve body mounting nuts. crew Handle pline Adapter kirt Escutcheon Valve tem Fig. #8 1/8 (3 mm) INTALL DIVERTER CAUTION: Risk of product damage. Internal component assembly must be removed to prevent damage when soldering the tubing connections. Detent NOTE: DO NOT remove the check valve in the diverter shower port. Remove the internal component assembly from the diverter before installation, as it is most easily done before the diverter is installed. Use an open-end wrench and rotate counterclockwise to remove. It may be necessary to press the detent in slightly. Fig. #9 5

Thread the brass mounting nut on the diverter down to the stop, and install a brass washer. Install an O-ring in the flange. Insert the diverter through the deck or bath from underneath, and slide the flange over the diverter body. Thread the sleeve onto the diverter, and loosely tighten the mounting nut under the deck or bath. Align the diverter ports for your particular installation configuration. NOTE: Make sure the setscrew in the diverter handle is threaded a few turns so it does not fall into the diverter body when the handle is installed. Align the setscrew hole in the handle with one of the dimples on the flange, and install the handle by carefully pressing down to engage the splines on the stem and in the handle. Press the plug button into the setscrew opening. etscrew Dimple tem Handle Fig. #20 Handshower: Two types of shower hose are provided - a high-pressure hose for connection to the diverter; and a decorative hose for connection to the handshower.
