The plastic domes are formed from minimum 0.177-inch-thick smooth and flat sheets of Optix Acrylic Sheet recognized in ICC-ES report ESR-2591. See Figures 1A and 1B for more information regarding the components used in the skylights. 3.2 EZ Tubular Skylights noted under Table 2: The EZ tubular skylights noted in Table 2 are plastic-domed glazed tubular skylights available in nominal diameters of 10 and 14 inches (254 and 356 mm). Each skylight consists of the following components: a clear plastic dome; a self-flashing curb; adjustable and extension reflective tubes; a ceiling package including trim ring, inner and diffuser lenses, diffuser ring, miscellaneous fasteners and washers; foam tapes; kerf mounted seals, and hole cutting templates. The EZ10ECL also has a dimmer unit packaged with the other components. The dome shape is a hemisphere for 10-inch (254-mm) dome lenses and is a truncated hemisphere with a flat top for 14-inch (356-mm) dome lenses. Table 2 lists the skylight models, flashing and dome materials, dome diameters, dome rises, and reflective tube descriptions. Figure 2 shows a typical version of the EZ skylight assembly. 3.2.1 Material: 3.2.1.1 Plastic Dome: The plastics are manufactured from resins as identified in the approved quality control documentation. The acrylic plastic dome has a CC2 classification. The polycarbonate plastic dome has a CC1 classification. The nominal thickness of the 10-inch-diameter (245 mm) dome lens is 0.114 inch (2.89 mm) and is 0.115 inch (2.92 mm) for 14-inch-diameter (356 mm) dome lens. 3.2.1.2 Self-Flashing Curb: The self-flashing curb is made from one of three types of materials: 0.125-inch-thick (3.2 mm) Polytrope TPP 518, 0.063-inch-thick (1.60 mm) 1100-0 spun, or formable available as 0.023- to 0.032-inch-thick (0.58 to 0.81 mm) 1100-0 or 0.028- to 0.037-inch-thick (0.72 to 0.95 mm) 3003-0. 3.2.1.3 Adjustable and Extension Reflective Tubes: The diameter of the reflective tube is 10 inches (254 mm) for EZ10 and 14 inches (356 mm) for EZ1. The reflective tubes are formed from AL 99.85 (European Standard) or AA (Aluminum Association) 1085 0.016 ± 0.0016-inch-thick (0.41±0.041 mm) alloy sheet laminated with Alanod Miro 4400YP reflective film on the interior surface. 3.2.1.4 Light Diffuser: The light diffuser consists of a tempered glass diffuser lens and two-glass inner lenses. The thickness of all glass diffuser lenses is 0.125-inch (3.20 mm). 3.2.1.5 Fire-Resistant Ring: The fire-resistant ring is an band used as protection for the glazing exposed edge (See Figure 3). The rings are required to be installed only where classified roof coverings are required by the applicable code. ESR-3681 Most Widely Accepted and Trusted Page 2 of 7 3.2.2 Dimmer Unit: The dimmer unit of the EZ10ECL model connects the 10-inch (254 mm) reflective tube to the light diffuser. 3.2.3 Fasteners: 3.2.3.1 Self-Flashing Curb Mounting: The fasteners supplied with the skylights and used to attach the self-flashing curb of the skylight to the roof sheathing are No. 8 by 2-inch-long (51 mm), 18-8 stainless steel sheet-metal screws with 0.045-inch-thick-by- 3 / 4-inchdiameter (1.14 mm by 19.1 mm) fender washers. 3.2.3.2 Dome: The fasteners supplied with the skylights and used to attach the dome to the self-flashing curb are No. 8 by 3 / 4-inch-long (19.1 mm) Phillips pan head 18-8 stainless steel screws with No. 8 by 3 / 8-inch-outsidediameter (9.53 mm) stainless steel washers. 3.2.3.3 Ceiling Ring: The fasteners supplied with the skylights and used to attach the ceiling ring to the ceiling are No. 6 by 1-inch-long (25.4 mm) wallboard screws. 3.2.4 Roof Sheathing: The roof sheathing must be minimum 1 / 2-inch-thick (12.7 mm) plywood or oriented strand board (OSB) panel sheathing complying with the applicable code. 4.0 INSTALLATION AND DESIGN 4.1 Installation of Skylights noted under Table 1: 4.1.1 General: Installation must be in accordance with the manufacturer s published installation instructions, this report, and Sections 2405 and 2610 of the IBC and Section R308.6 of the IRC, as applicable. Skylights must be installed on roofs with slopes between 0 degrees (0:12) and 75 degrees (45:12) from the horizontal. A mininum height of 4 inches (102 mm) between the plastic glazing and plane of the roof must be maintained. In the event of conflict between this report and the manufacturer s published installation instructions, this report governs. 4.1.2 Self-Flashing: The self-flashing skylights are mounted directly to the roof deck assembly. Compatible sealant must be applied on the mounting flange of the selfflashing unit and covered with the roof covering in such a manner as to ensure a watertight seal. See Figures 1A and 1B for more installation details. 4.1.3 Curb-Mounted: The curb-mounted skylights must be installed on a wood curb made of minimum 2-by lumber with a minimum 0.42 specific gravity. The wood curb and the attachment to the roof structure must be designed to resist the appropriate code-prescribed loads. The gap between the skylight frame and the wood curb must be fully shimmed. Flashing must comply with, and be installed in accordance with, IBC Section 1507 or IRC Section 905, as applicable. See Figures 1A and 1B for more installation details. 4.2 Installation of Skylights noted under Table 2: 4.2.1 General: The skylights must be installed in accordance with IBC Sections 2405 and 2610, or IRC Section R308.6, as applicable; this report; and the manufacturer s published installation instructions. Skylights must be installed on roofs with slopes between 14 degrees (3:12) and 75 degrees (45:12) from the horizontal. A mininum height of 4 inches (102 mm) between the plastic glazing and plane of the roof must be maintained. All EZ skylights are limited to where nonclassified roof coverings are permitted except when the fire-resistant ring and spun self-flashing curbs are installed. In the event of a conflict between this report and the manufacturer s published installation instructions, this report governs. The skylights are prepackaged with all components, fasteners, attachments, and installation instructions in the shipping carton, except for the sealant recommended by the skylight manufacturer to be installed between the skylight and roof sheathing. For the EZ10, a 12-inchdiameter (305 mm) hole must be cut in the roof sheathing and an 11-inch-diameter (279 mm) hole must be cut in the ceiling below the attic space. For the EZ14, the corresponding ceiling and sheathing hole diameters are 16 inches and 15 inches (406 mm and 381 mm), respectively. 4.2.2 Self-Flashing: The skylight self-flashing curb must be treated with the sealant recommended by the skylight manufacturer applied around the bottom surface of the flashing and then must be attached to the plywood or OSB roof sheathing with the fasteners described in Section 3.2.3.1. The number of fasteners required is given in Table 2. The skylight dome lens must be attached to the selfflashing curb with four of the fasteners described in Section 3.2.5.2. Silicone sealant must be applied to the screw heads after placement. The reflective tubes must be inserted into the skylight self-flashing curb at the roof and must be terminated at the ceiling into a ceiling ring installed with three or four No. 6 by 1-inch-long (25-mm) drywall screws. The skylight diffuser must then be twisted onto the ceiling ring. For installation of the dimmer unit of the EZ10ECL model, the lower end of the 10-inch (254 mm) reflective tube is put into the top surface of the dimmer unit and the two are snapped together. The light diffuser must then be twisted onto the lower surface of the dimmer unit. The fire-resistant ring slides on the dome lens and conceals the lower 1 / 2-inch (12.7 mm) of the dome lens. It protrudes 1 / 2-inch (12.7 mm) beyond the bottom edge of the dome. The ring is supported by a horizontal flange of the dome and is held down by the heads of four screws that retain the dome lens to the flashing. 4.3 Design: 4.3.1 Allowable Loads: The performance grade (PG) rating values are provided in Tables 1 and 3. 4.3.2 Air Infiltration: When tested at an air pressure differential of 1.57 psf (75 Pa), the skylights have an air leakage rate of less than 0.30 cfm/ft 2 (1.5 L/s*m 2 ). 5.0 CONDITIONS OF USE The Natural Light Tubular and EZ Tubular Skylights described in this report comply with, or are suitable alternatives to what is specified in, those codes listed in Section 1.0 of this report, subject to the following conditions: 5.1 The manufacturer s installation instructions must be available at the jobsite during installation. 5.2 The use of the skylights as components of fireresistance-rated assemblies is outside the scope of this report. 5.3 The skylights in Table 1 are available with different diffusers attached to the bottom end of the light tube. These are outside the scope of this report. 5.4 The connection of the dimmer unit of the EZ10ECL model to the reflective tubes and light diffuser and the dimmer unit components are outside the scope of this report.
ESR-3681 Most Widely Accepted and Trusted Page 3 of 7 5.5 The skylights are assembled in Phoenix, Arizona, under a quality control program with inspections by ICC-ES. 6.0 EVIDENCE SUBMITTED Data in accordance with the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Plastic Glazed Skylights (AC16), dated April 2011 (editorially revised August 2013). 7.0 IDENTIFICATION The Natural Light Tubular and EZ Tubular Skylights come in packages bearing the manufacturer s name and address; the model number; the CC1 or CC2 plastic classification of the plastic glazing (dome); the thickness of plastic glazing material prior to thermoforming the dome; a warning label complying with Class 1, ANSI Standard Z35.1-1972, specifications for accident prevention signs; allowable loads; and the evaluation report number (ESR-3681).
