The fllwing infrmatin will assist yu thrugh this prcess. General Lighting Infrmatin Lighting Prcedure: Pushing the ON buttn sends a radi frequency signal t the mdule. This sends pwer t the pilt assembly and the sparking begins. The gas valve will pen, sending gas t the pilt. Sparking stps after the sensr recgnizes the flame and burner ignitin is cmplete. ON/OFF/Cntinuus Pilt allws yu t activate the cntinuus pilt feature and allws the use f a standing pilt. Cntrl Mdule (AF-4000MOD-1) Brain f the system; has built in fault cdes: The mdule, inside the valve bx, cntrls the peratin f the valve kit. If mdule detects a prblem, it will begin emitting a series f audible beeps (fault cdes). The audible beeps indicate a fault and will assist in lcating the prblem. Fault Cdes Ignitin Safety 1 beep every 1 secnd Ignitr will nt spark / Burner has nt ignited within 60 secnds. Gas is ON; line is purged f air and n blckage in the pilt and main lines. Pilt assembly electrdes are clean, n st build-up (clean with steel wl if needed). Sensr S Igniter I Wire Cnnectins Pilt wires I (Ignitr) and S (Sensr) wires cnnected Fig. 1 3

(See Fig. 2) Fig. 1 Sensr Safety 4 beeps every secnd / cnstant beeping Sensr detects a flame, but flame is nt present. Will als ccur if flame (S) sensr wire is shrted t grund. Pilt flame is actually present when valve is turned OFF (valve replacement necessary if yes). Flame sensr electrde is nt tuching burner pan, lg grate r pilt hd assembly. Flame sensr wiring is nt wrn, frayed, pinched r damaged. Discnnect S wire frm mdule and press ON n transmitter. Is there a ticking sund at mdule? If Yes, mdule is wrking as designed, check pilt assembly. Grund screw n bttm f valve Fig. 2 Pilt Assembly Pilt wires I (Ignitr) and S (Sensr) wires cnnected t mdule securely. (See Fig. 1) 8-Pin black (grund lead) t valve. (See Fig. 2) N splices t wires, cuts, crimps; these can cause shrts. spark gap at pilt assembly. Gap shuld be 3mm (1/8 ) frm hd t 1 st spark electrde. T clse will nt spark, t far it will spark t the burner pan r lg grate. the (white) ceramic insulatrs t make sure that there are n cracks at each spark electrde, if cracked, replace pilt assembly. If N ticking sund, check battery vltage. Battery vltage shuld be a minimum f 5.3 vlts DC in the battery pack r if using a AF-4000ADP24 DC Adapter, a minimum 6.75 t maximum 8.25 vlts DC. If prper vltage is btained, mdule needs t be replaced. Thermal Safety 4 beeps every 2 secnds Overheating Internal mdule temperature exceeds 170 degrees F. Cntrl mdule must stay inside the valve bx. Never mve utside r ther lcatins. If valve bx is t clse t burner, mve t cler lcatin. If glass drs are installed they need t be fully pened during peratin. Other Symptms Burner Flame Will Nt Mdulate Or Wrks Backwards Battery vltage shuld be a minimum f 5.3 vlts DC in the battery pack and a minimum f 9.0 vlts DC in the transmitter. Red indicatr light n transmitter illuminates when buttns are pressed. 4-pin cnnectr frm mdule t battery pack is secure. 4
Red and black wires frm battery pack are cnnected t red and black wires n slenid/mtr. Black wire shuld be n the utside and red wire shuld be n the inside n the terminal blck. (Fig. 3) Battery pack is in the prper psitin. AFVK-SP-H/L shuld be in the latching slenid psitin AFVK-SP-MH/L shuld be in the DC mtr drive psitin. Fig. 2 Fig 3 Slenid/Mtr with a 9 vlt battery Discnnect red and black wires frm the slenid/mtr and battery pack where they cnnect. Place ne wire, frm the slenid/mtr drive, n the (+) terminal and ne n the ( ) terminal f the 9 vlt battery. This shuld adjust yur flame either HI r LO. Reverse the wires and it shuld adjust the flame in the ppsite directin. If this fails, the slenid/mtr drive shuld be replaced. Flame Height Seems HI/LO IMPORTANT: Valve Kits are shipped Natural gas (NG) frm Skytech. If using LP gas, make sure that yu have fllwed the LP gas cnversin prcedure t cnvert frm Natural (NG) t LP, befre checking the fllwing: Gas valve regulatr is selected t prper gas being used. Remve regulatr cap lcated n the frnt f the valve. t see if stem indicates prper gas type. If nt, push stem in and turn t prper gas type; replace cap. (See Fig. 4 thru 7) Use prper rifice fr the crrect type f gas being used. (Using a LP rifice while using NG gas will cause lw flame height; and using a NG rifice n LP will cause high flame and sting). Lw gas line pressure and blckage in the lines will affect the flame height. Cntact a qualified gas technician. Cntact gas lg manufacturer fr prper burner specificatins. Natural Gas Fig. 4 Mdule Des Nt Have An Audible Beep When Using Transmitter Battery vltage shuld be a minimum f 5.3 vlts DC in the battery pack and a minimum f 9.0 vlts DC in the transmitter. Prcedures Fr Qualified Technicians: Test Vltage t Gas Valve: Using a multi-meter, set the test leads t VDC. Insert each test lead wire int the 2-pin cnnectr n the gas valve marked MAIN (green and white wires). (See Fig 10). Using the remte, turn unit n, immediately yu shuld see 6 VDC and then drp t 1.5 VDC. Fllw the same prcedure with the 2-pin cnnectr n gas valve marked PILOT (range and white wires). (See Fig. 7). If yu d nt get the 6 VDC vlts, frm the MAIN and PILOT, the mdule shuld be replaced. Fig. 7 Test Resistance f the Burner Cil at Gas Valve: This tests whether valve can pen r clse. Using a multi-meter, set the test leads t VDC. Remve the green/white 2-pin cnnectr labeled MAIN frm the gas valve. Tuch ne lead frm the vlt meter t each pin n the valve. (See Fig. 8). Cil resistance shuld read 990 Ohms t 1230 Ohms. If resistance falls utside f these limits, the gas valve shuld be replaced. Fig. 8 Test Static and Operating Line Pressure: static and perating line pressure, (shuld nt see mre than 2 water clumn difference between static and perating). Static pressure is the gas pressure cming t the gas valve befre the valve is in peratin. Static Pressure: Natural Gas = 7.0-12.0 - WC. & LP Gas 11.0-14.0 WC. Operating Pressure: Natural Gas = 4.7 WC. & LP = 10-14 WC. 7
