Before You Begin Installation is required before placing the table into service. Read and follow the instructions in Installing the Table, page 12. Installation Learning about the Table Read this section to familiarize yourself with the table and its components. Product Description The Model 156 Roller System (table) is a device designed to ease the loading and transporting of caskets and mortuary cots in a vehicle. Bier pins (not supplied) and restraints help prevent the casket and mortuary cot from moving around in the vehicle during transport. The table secures to the mounting plates installed on the floor of the vehicle. The table can be easily removed so the vehicle can be used for other purposes. Features include eight rollers, two quick-release lock knobs, two cot restraints, and a variety of bier pin positions to hold caskets of different lengths. Operator Considerations Skills q Operators should know how to load and unload caskets and mortuary cots into a vehicle q Operators should have a complete understanding of the procedures described in this manual. Training q Trainees should follow a training plan approved by the supervisor. q Trainees should read this manual. q Trainees should practice using the table. Test each trainee s understanding of the table. Keep training records. A convenient form is provided on page 15. Using the Table Read this section to learn how to use and maintain the table. Read Learning about the Table and Operator Considerations before using this section. Guidelines for Use The table is for professional use only. Use the table as described in this manual. Use the table only when it works properly. Improper use can cause injury and damage. Use the table as described in this manual. Using a Mortuary Cot with the Table Remove the bier pins from the table. Load the mortuary cot (cot) onto the table (Figure A). Follow the loading instructions in the cot's users' manual. Using the Table (continued) Push the cot forward until the cot posts rest in the post cups (Figure B). Hook a restraint over the cot frame. Pull the tab to tighten the restraint (Figure C). Repeat with the other restraint. To unload the cot, loosen the restraint by pulling the buckle up. Unhook the restraint from the cot frame. Figure B Tab Buckle Using a Casket with the Table Place a stationary bier pin in one of the front bierpin holes. Figure C Load the casket onto the table, and push the casket against the stationary bier pin. Place an adjustable bier pin in one of the back bier-pin holes (Figure D). Tighten the adjustable bier pin to secure the casket on the table. To unload the casket from the vehicle, remove the adjustable bier pin and roll the casket off the table. Using the Table (continued) Removing and Replacing the Table in a Vehicle To remove the table from the vehicle, push down and turn a lock knob until the lock pin is released from the mounting plate (Figure E). Repeat with the other lock knob. Lift the table out of the vehicle. To replace the table in the vehicle, align a lock pin with the slot in a mounting plate (Figure F). Push the lock knob down, inserting the lock pin through the slot. Turn the lock knob left or right ¼ turn until the lock pin secures in the mounting plate. Figure E Repeat with the other lock knob. A loose table can slide around in the vehicle and cause injury. Fasten the table as described in this manual. Lock Pin Maintenance Schedule Setting up and following a maintenance schedule is important to the long life of this table. Follow the maintenance schedule below as a minimum. Maintenance As Needed Each Month When using a maintenance product, follow the manufacturer's directions and read the manufacturer's material safety data sheet. Clean the table (page 10). Disinfect the table (page 10). Contact Ferno Customer Service to order Ferno Inspect the table (page 10). cleaners and disinfectants (page 14). Keep maintenance records. Using the Table (continued) Cleaning the Table Restraints To remove the restraints, pry off the buckle cover and pull the restraint from the buckle. Buckle Cover Place the restraints in a mesh laundry bag. Machine wash them on cold/cold using the delicate cycle and a mild detergent. Allow them to air dry. Thread the restraints through the buckle (Figure G). Replace the black cover. Table Clean all other surfaces of the table with warm water and a mild detergent. Use a stiff-bristled brush if necessary. Rinse it with warm water. Towel dry the table or allow it to air dry. Disinfecting the Table Wipe all surfaces of the table with disinfectant (Bloodborne Disease Notice, page 4). As you wipe the table down, check it for obvious damage and excessive wear. Follow the disinfectant manufacturer's directions for use. Figure G Bleach, phenols, and iodine can cause damage. Do not apply products containing these chemicals to the table. Inspecting the Table Have your service technician or an EMSAR service technician follow the instructions in Using the Table and check the following: q Are all components present? q Are the mounting plates securely attached to the floor? q Does the table attach securely to the mounting plates? q Are the restraints in good condition? If the table does not pass the inspection, keep it out of service and see Parts and Service (page 11). When the table has passed the inspection, it can be placed in service. 10 Model 156 Roller System

Parts and Service Use only Ferno-approved repair parts and service to maintain the table. Parts To order replacement parts, contact Ferno Customer Service (page 14). Using improper parts and service can cause injury and damage. Only use Ferno-approved parts and service. Installing the Table The mounting plates need to be installed on the floor of the vehicle. The table attaches to the mounting plates. Installation of the table requires a professional mechanic familiar with the vehicle's construction. Contact your vehicle manufacturer about possible hazards or vehicle warranty information before installing the table. Tools Needed to Install a Table: 13 /16" Drill Bit Flat-head phillips screw, 14 x 1" Figure H For carpeted floor Grease Pencil Circular cutter or utility knife The table is designed so you can install either one or two in a vehicle (Figures H and I). A loose table can slide around in the vehicle and cause injury. Fasten the table as described in this manual. Figure I 1 - Attach the Mounting Plates to the Table To attach a mounting plate, turn a lock knob and align the lock pin with the slot in a mounting plate (Figure J). Push the lock knob down, inserting the lock pin through the slot. Turn the lock knob ¼ turn until the mounting plate is attached. Lock Knob Bracket Turn the mounting plate to align the holes in the mounting plate with the holes in the bracket. These holes are used to mark the location of the screw holes. Installing the Table (continued) 2 - Position the Table on the Vehicle Floor Position the table on the floor where you would like to install it. Position the table so the post cups are at the rear of the vehicle. Load a cot and a casket on the table and check the following: Do a cot and a casket load easily onto the table? Does the vehicle have a lip at the rear door or anything that interferes with the loading? If anything interferes with the loading, call customer service for assistance (page 14). Figure K Do the rear doors close when the table is loaded? Will installing the table at this position damage or interfere with electrical wiring, brake lines, the fuel tank, etc. If two tables are going to be installed, position the tables so they do not interfere with each other (Figure K). After deciding the installation position for the table, mark the screw holes. Figure L 3 - If the Vehicle Floor has Carpet Drilling through carpet may unravel the carpet. If the floor is carpeted, use a grease pencil to mark the screw hole locations. Cut out the carpet (approx. ½" square) around the marks before drilling. 4 - Install the Mounting Plates on Vehicle Floor Using the mounting plates as guides, drill the screw holes (Figure L). Insert the screws through the mounting plate into the drill holes (Figure M). Tighten the mounting plates to the floor. Limited Warranty Limited Warranty Summary Ferno-Washington, Inc. (Ferno) warrants the products we manufacture to be free from defects in material and workmanship for one year except as follows: (A) External finishes (gelcoat, decals, paint, etc.) are warranted for 90 days. (B) Soft goods (webbing, vinyl, fabric, foam, etc.) are warranted for 90 days. (C) Repairs and services are warranted for 90 days or until the end of the time period(s) above, whichever comes last. This limited warranty applies when you use and care for the product properly. If the product is not used and cared for properly, the warranty is void. The warranty period begins the day the product is shipped from Ferno or the day you receive it if you have proof of the delivery date. Shipping charges are not covered by the limited warranty. We are not liable for shipping damages or damages sustained through using the product. Limited Warranty Obligation If a product or part is proven to be defective, Ferno will repair or replace it. At our option, we will refund the product s purchase price. The purchaser accepts these terms in lieu of all damages. This is a summary of the limited warranty.
