Features and Benefits Fuel Efficiency Powertrain communication: high speed engine-transmission-communication for improved use of engine power to improve performance and fuel economy ecoast: transmission automatically shifts to neutral while coasting to save fuel. Skip Shift: transmission electronics command to "skip gears" to avoid unnecessary shifts for improved fuel economy and performance Intelligent Powertrain Management (IPM4) knows the route ahead and will pre-select gears, ecoast, and engine braking to maximize efficiency. Close the Gap in Fuel Economy Daimler Trucks North America 3
Powertrain Communication The ability for the transmission and engine to share information and offer complimentary functions gives the Detroit transmission an advantage no other supplier can offer. Dedicated powertrain communication does not use J1939 Motor Control Module Common Powertrain Controller Transmission Control Module Based on input from the vehicle operator, and detailed knowledge of the vehicle, the electronic controls can command: Engine torque limiting to reduce driveline damage and shift more smoothly Transmission shift points to keep RPMs in the sweet spot Daimler Trucks North America 4
ecoast When coasting down grades or reducing speed, the ecoast function of the DT12 transmission temporarily opens the driveline Disengaging the powertrain saves fuel Vehicle momentum is preserved Appropriate gear is always selected upon acceleration ecoast Conditions Minimum vehicle speed threshold is exceeded Vehicle acceleration and engine speed limit is not exceeded No accelerator pedal, brake pedal, or engine brake input Upcoming ecoast event exceeds a minimum estimated time requirement No active regeneration Weight does not exceed 100,000 lbs. Daimler Trucks North America 5
Skip Shifting The DT12 can skip unnecessary gears under low loads or running bobtail Reduced gear steps keep engine in sweet spot, increasing efficiency Ability to run through lower gears faster to achieve cruising speed sooner Less shifting creates smoother driving and increased acceleration Ability to choose appropriate start gear based on load and grade inputs Daimler Trucks North America 6
What is DT12 Intelligent Powertrain Management? The purpose of Intelligent Powertrain Management (IPM) is to use the momentum of the vehicle most efficiently by eliminating unnecessary fueling, engine braking and shifting while minimizing the impact on travel time. IPM is feature of cruise control that uses terrain maps and GPS to know the route ahead up to 1+ miles (2 KM) IPM uses shifts, acceleration, engine braking and coast versus ecoast optimization to efficiently operate the powertrain. Prediction of route including GPS electronic maps Horizon Data Daimler Trucks North America 7
Daimler Trucks North America Intelligent Powertrain Management with DT12 Only active in cruise control Uses kinetic energy of the vehicle to save fuel in most optimal fashion Works to prevent unnecessary: engine brake events, shifts, and fueling Logic is designed to minimize the increase in travel time Maps in software do not need updating like other GPS products IPM Road Coverage Red - FC1-100% covered Yellow FC2-100% covered Green FC3-40% covered
Detroit Transmission Fluid The DT12 uses a fully synthetic oil to further increase: Fuel Efficiency Lower viscosity oils that are synthetically engineered for their application reduce friction and pumping inefficiencies, using less fuel to turn the transmission Reliability Synthetic oils are engineered to clean contaminates and dissipate heat more effectively, leading to longer transmission life ONLY use MB 235.11 spec oil in the DT12 Different spec oils will: Not provide the same fuel efficiency Affect reliability by deteriorating gaskets and seals Break down further before the maintenance interval Daimler Trucks North America 9
Features and Benefits Performance & Comfort Active Driveline Protection: Transmission Control Module calculates the torque wind-up in the driveline and regulates with engine torque control for enhanced driving comfort and less driveline wear Driving Mode (Econ vs. Perf): depending on application customer can choose between eco and power-mode configuration Kick-Down: allows for improved vehicle acceleration Pneumatic clutch and shift actuation: allows faster gear shifts compared to electronic actuation Helical gears and geometrical optimized gear-cut for noise reduction and efficiency Creep mode allows enhanced slow speed maneuvering through speed-adapted clutch control Daimler Trucks North America 10
DT12 Clutch The DT12 uses a ceramic-metallic faced clutch, in both single or dual plate configurations. With a Concentric Pneumatic Clutch Actuator (CPCA), precise computer control allows for long-lasting operation and superior shifting and traction control. Clutch warranty is 3 years or 300,000 miles Detroit recommends replacing the clutch at 750,000 miles Detroit Single Plate Clutch DD13, DD15 below 105k GCW Detroit Dual Plate Clutch DD15 above 105k GCW, all DD16 Diameter 16.93 (430mm) Weight 113 lbs. (51 kg) Diameter 15.75 (400mm) Additional Weight 70 lbs. (32kg) Daimler Trucks North America 11
Shift Boost Mode The DT12 shifts noticeably smoother than other automated transmissions. In addition to pneumatic shift and clutch actuators, the engine and transmission work together to ensure the smoothest shifts possible. The engine will: Brake 3 cylinders and fire 3 cylinders, to maintain turbo boost and fuel pressure Speeds up time-to-target during up-shifts under load FASTER SHIFTING Preserves boost energy allowing quicker torque ramp-up QUICKER TORQUE BUILD-UP Pre-loading of driveline allows smoother shifts under full load SMOOTH ENGAGEMENT Daimler Trucks North America 12
Creep Mode The Creep Mode of the transmission simulates a torque converter in an automatic transmission to improve low speed maneuverability for parking, docking, heavy traffic, or other low speed situations. Although the clutch slips to transfer limited torque, the TCM constantly monitors load and temperature. 10 Creep Mode! A econ Aborted 5555555 mi 10 CRITICAL! Clutch! A econ Overloaded 5555555 mi The DT12 will not allow the clutch to be damaged by Creep Mode, and will abort if damage is imminent. Daimler Trucks North America 13
Features and Benefits Safety True two-pedal system for ease of operation and reduced driver fatigue Hill Start Aid (HSA): prevents roll back after standing still on a hill Auto Neutral: transmission electronics command "Neutral" gear when certain conditions apply, e.g. parking brake is engaged or vehicle shut-down Shift lever with gear, auto/manual mode and engine brake selection improves ergonomics Reduces New Driver Training Daimler Trucks North America 14
Hill Start Aid (HSA) When transitioning from a standstill to acceleration on a grade of 3% or more, Hill Start Aid acts as a brake assist feature to prevent rollback for up to 3 seconds. Smooth and Safe Transition from Brake to Throttle The ABS module holds and modulates brake pressure after the driver has released their foot from the brake pedal. Creep-Mode works in combination with Hill Start Aid to achieve proper: Acceleration / Torque Brake modulation transition to clutch control and slowly moving the vehicle forward. HSA is enabled (hold brake pressure) with the following conditions: Brake pressure exists Vehicle is not moving No ABS system faults are active HSA switch is not disabled Daimler Trucks North America 15
Auto Neutral The TCM will automatically shift the transmission into neutral in certain conditions: While the shifter is in drive or reverse position If the transmission was mistakenly left in gear When the ignition switch is turned off When the operator has applied the parking brake while the stalk is in drive or reverse, the dash will flash N for neutral after 5 seconds and a quick beep will be sounded. After an additional 5 seconds without driver interaction, an additional beep will be sounded and the DT12 will shift into neutral. Daimler Trucks North America 16

How the DT12 Reduces Driver Training The DT12 offers many advances to allow less experience drivers to drive like seasoned veterans. Allowing fleets to invest less resources in driver training. A two pedal system eliminates manual shifting and is simple to learn/operate DT12 offers creep mode for slow speed maneuvers All safety, comfort and performance features allow the driver to keep his hands on the wheel and eyes on road Intelligent dash provide real time feedback on transmission operation Daimler Trucks North America 18
Gear Hold The driver can hold a gear while descending a grade, if: In Auto shift mode (econ or perf) Cruise control is off 10 Reduce A econ Engine RPM 5555555 mi Then by pushing the shifter forward to manually downshift The shifter does not need to be held That gear will be held for ten seconds It can be held for longer if the engine brakes or service brakes are being used 1. After ten seconds 2. Without engine or service brakes The vehicle will return to auto gear selection Daimler Trucks North America 19
Cruise Descent Descent control will help control your vehicle and engine speed when descending a grade 1. Determine appropriate descent speed 2. Turn on engine brakes (actively working) 3. Set cruise speed 4. Apply service brakes if necessary 5. Afterwards, turn off engine brakes 6. Descent speed becomes the new cruise speed Note: Descent control does not use the CC band switch and does not fuel the engine on the descent Daimler Trucks North America 20
