ENERGY SCENARIO 2050. Systematic reduction of energy related emissions. Source: Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, 2017. Greenhouse gas reduction targets can be achieved: Reduction of energy demand by increasing efficiency. Decarbonize electricity: Build up of renewable energy generation. Change from coal to gas power plants (back-up). Build out increased electricity grid capacity. Demand side management. Coupling of sectors: Power-to-Heat and e-mobility. Build up energy storage capacity (short and long term). Page 7

ENERGY SCENARIO 2050. High fossil energy share in transportation: High cost to substitute liquid fuels. Long lead time to replace the entire fleet of passenger vehicles. Heavy duty trucks. Maritime transport. Aviation. New technologies are required for high energy transportation consumers. Page 8

BMW GROUP ZERO-EMISSION VEHICLE STRATEGY. By 2025 up to 25 percent of our annual new car sales will be pure electric vehicles. This is more than half a million vehicles. Klaus Fröhlich, Member of the Board of Management Development. Page 10

BMW GROUP ZERO-EMISSION VEHICLE STRATEGY. BEV FCEV BMW will contribute to transportation decarbonization by developing zero emission vehicles and promoting BMW s vision. Page 11

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS OF ZERO EMISSION MOBILITY. BEV: Home/work charger for each car. Grid upgrades in residential areas. Fast chargers at highways. Controlled charging. Customer benefits over ICE cars. TCO advantage over ICE cars. FCEV: Conversion of fuel stations to H 2. Build up of a green H 2 supply chain. Customer benefits over ICE cars. TCO advantage over ICE cars. From a customer s point of view, zero emission vehicles must have recognizable advantages over conventional cars. Page 12

BMW FUEL CELL VEHICLES AND HYDROGEN TECHNOLOGY. CONCLUSION. BMW is committed to supporting transportation decarbonization. Electricity and hydrogen will become the main energy carriers for transportation in the long term. Hydrogen allows to stabilize the grid, to store surplus electricity and to provide fuel for mobility while maintaining today`s customer habits and infrastructure business models. Energy utilities and industry are encouraged to invest in renewables and implement innovative ways to supply transportation energy for customers at a reasonable price. Policymakers must set a framework that encourages customers to go zero emission. The way forward: Launch regional zero emission mobility public/private projects that include: customers, vehicles, infrastructure and renewable energy supply. Page 13
