FIELD ADJUSTMENTS THREE POINT 2020F, 2520F, 2025F, 2525F DRILL MAINTENANCE Proper servicing and adjustment is the key to the long life of any farm implement. With careful and systematic inspection of your grain drill, you can avoid costly downtime and repair. 1) After using your drill for several hours check all bolts to be sure they are tight. Refer to torque values chart in your operator s manual. 2) Refer to the operator s manual for proper lubrication intervals and maintenance schedules. 3) Disk scrapers should be properly adjusted. 4) Inspect the tire pressure of all tires. Tire Pressure Size Location Pressure 11L x 15-8 ply Gauge Wheel 36 PSI 11L x 15SL 12 ply Gauge Wheel 52 PSI 5) Check all chain idlers for proper adjustment. Check that each idler is taking up excess chain slack. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN CHAINS. Adjust until the pull side of chain has no more than a ¼ inch of movement from the centerline of the pull. 12-08

ADJUSTMENT BEFORE GOING TO THE FIELD 1) Hitching drill to the tractor A) Attach the tractors lower three point arms to the drill. B) Pin the top link arm to drill. For category II, III, and III-N tractors, install the top link pin in lower hole. For category IV-N tractors install pin in upper hole. C) Raise drill and check for any interference on the tractor. D) With drill in planting position check the top edge of drill box. It should be parallel with the ground, if not adjust the top three point link on the tractor. 2) Hitching drill to a Great Plains Implement Hitch (SSH). When using a 25 series row unit or unit mounted coulters you will need a Hitch Setback Kit, part number 118-130A. A) With the hitch lock in the forward position, back up until quick hitch is under the lower hitch pins of the three point drill. Raise the hitch, once the lower pins are securely attached, slide the latch plate back and install the retainer pin. B) Attach the top link to the drill to complete the attachment.

3) If operations are being changed between non-bedded and bedded planting, set the spring turnbuckle clevis position before checking length and opener height. Link-Adjust Gauge Wheels Make sure block mount (1) of the spring linkage is in the correct mount hole (2), (3) for bedded/non-bedded. Set spring linkage length. Dimensions are provided for both centerline-to-centerline distance (4) and length of reveal (6) on the threaded rod. Loosen top nut (5). Turn spring linkage (6) to shorten or lengthen. Retighten by turning spring linkage (6) into top nut (5). Single link is right hand threaded. Turnbuckle Adjust Gauge Wheels Loosen jam nut (1) near top clevis of each gauge wheel turnbuckle. Jam nut is left hand threaded. Make sure upper clevis (2) is in correct mount hole for row unit series, and bedded/non-bedded. Adjust turnbuckle length (4). After setting both gauge wheel assemblies to the same configuration, tighten jam nuts (1).

FIELD ADJUSTMENTS 1) Level the drill. Lower the drill to the planting position as it is being pulled forward. Inspect the front to rear levelness. Adjust the tractor top link so that the top of the drill box is level front to rear. 2) Measure from the bottom of the opener mounting tube to the soil. This measurement should be 24 inches for 20 series row units and 26 inches for 25 series row units. This is adjusted by changing the length of the gauge-wheel turnbuckles. 3) If the drill is level and the measurement is set correctly, the front pivot of the parallel arms should be no more than 1 inch higher than the rear pivot. 20 Series 25 Series 4) Inspect the actual depth of seed in several places along the drill. Check 1: Behind the gauge wheels. Check 2: Towards the outer end of the drill but not behind the gauge wheel tracks. Check 3: Behind the wheel tracks of the tractor. Check 4: Towards the center of the drill but not behind the tractor tracks. 5) Material rate adjustments: A) Check the seed cups for any foreign objects in the seed cups. Loosen wing nut on seed rate handle and open all the way to 100 percent on the brass plate. Move handle back until the edge of the seed flute is flush with the seam in the center of the feed cup. Place a 7/8 square shaft between the edge of the flute and side of the cup. The brass plate should read 50 percent on the seed rate handle, if not, loosen the screws holding the brass plate and adjust plate to read 50. If an individual cup is not consistent, loosen the bolts holding the cup to the bottom of the seed box and adjust seed cup housing as needed.

B) Each feed cup is equipped with a four-position adjustment handle. 1) The highest position is for wheat and other small grain. 2) The second is for soybeans and other large grain. 3) The third is used if the seed is cracking in the second position. 4) The bottom position is for clean out of the seed cup and will drain any grain left in the seed box. DO NOT OPEN the seed cup handle to the bottom position with seed in the box unless complete clean out is desired. NOTE: When storing after drilling season, it is best to place the handle in the bottom position to prevent damage from mice. C) Locate the desired seeding rate for the type of seed in the seed rate manual. 1) Set the drive type for the seed and rate desired. Make sure both drives are in the same drive type on the 20 and 25 foot drills. 2) Loosen wing nut on seed rate adjustment handle and move handle to correct marking on brass plate. When setting the seed rate always go past the required number and then back to the correct number on the brass plate. 3) Check seeding rate by running the calibration procedure outlined in the seed rate manual. NOTE: The sprocket box has four different drives, if the chart does not have the desired rate for that drive type on the chart follow the drive ratios in the following chart: Sprocket box Ratios: Drive Type 1 is the slowest Drive Type 2 is 2.01 Times Faster Than 1 Drive Type 3 is 3.01 Times Faster Than 1 Drive Type 4 is 5.00 Times Faster Than 1

INDIVIDUAL COMPONENT ADJUSTMENTS 1) OPENER SPRING TENSION: To adjust down pressure use the adjustment tool under the walkboard. Place the tool on the spring mount and pull to move the cam. Move the cam one notch at a time and only in the wheel tracks if penetration is not adequate. NOTE: If the spring cams are adjusted to the maximum setting on all the openers, poor penetration may result because it will raise the drill. Start with all the opener springs in minimum setting. Start with all the opener springs in minimum setting. Minimum Maximum 2) SEED DEPTH: To start, all of the opener T handles should be set in the same holes (mid range). Check for the actual depth of seed. Adjust for wheel tracks as necessary. The openers in the wheel tracks may need to be one hole deeper because of soil compaction.
