The, a Systematic Method for Assessing Risk Avoidance Tool, enables those looking for curriculum to successfully assess, select and implement effective programs and curricula that support sexual risk avoidance and include the nine recurrent themes in the literature that increase protective factors in youth. Relationships Under Construction curriculum does integrate these nine protective factors into our curriculum. The following charts show specifically how RUC utilizes the nine recurrent themes. By integrating these nine protective factors into the material and lessons, we increase the likelihood that students will avoid sexual and other high risk behaviors that could undermine their future success. RUC did not have to add anything to our current curriculum to meet these nine factors. In our review, using the, we identified the nine themes and listed them in the charts on the following pages. Using RUC, you can be assured that the curriculum meets the requirements to be called sexualrisk avoidance (SRA) curriculum that will be successful when implemented with integrity. 1. Enhance the knowledge of: a) physical development and sexual risks, and b) healthy relationships. 2. Support personal attitudes, and beliefs.that value sexual risk avoidance. 3. Acknowledge and address common rationalizations for sexual activity 4. Improve perception of and independence from negative peer and social norms. 5. Build personal competencies and self-efficacy to avoid sexual activity. 6. Strengthen personal intention and commitment to avoid sexual activity. 7.
