LEGACY Control Operations When you download your Auxiliary Water Tender's memory module into the LEGACY Control System, the last four digits of the tender's road number will be downloaded. If your Auxiliary Water Tender does not have a road number, the number "0" will be the default road number. In LEGACY version 1.3, you will also have access to the TRAIN-LINK feature. Refer to the Lionel LEGACY Control System V1.3 Operations Manual for more detailed information regarding this feature. Couple your Auxiliary Tender with the any Lionel LEGACY steam locomotive and tender to experience all of the available LEGACY features. For a more in-depth explanation of the LEGACY Control System features, please see your LEGACY Control Systems Operations Manual. Power your locomotive with an alternating-current (AC) transformer only. Powering your locomotive with a direct-current (DC) transformer, or in excess of 19 volts AC, may result in damage to sensitive electronic components. LEGACY Control operations To operate in LEGACY mode, you need a LEGACY Command Base and LEGACY CAB-2 Remote Controller. Both products are offered together in the LEGACY Command Set, 6-14295. For the finest operating experience, your tender is fully compatible with the new LEGACY Control System. 1. Turn off track power and plug in the LEGACY Base. 2. Place your locomotive and tender on Lionel or Lionel-compatible O-31 or larger track and connect the drawbar between the locomotive and tender as illustrated in Figure 1. Then couple the Auxiliary Tender to the rear of the locomotive's tender. 3. Increase track power voltage to full power (no more than 19 volts AC). Figure 1. Drawbar connection 4. ENG and the ID number assigned to your locomotive with your LEGACY CAB-2 Remote Controller. 5. Throttle up and move em out. Your tender comes from the factory programmed with an ID# of 2. To actuate the tender s features, place the tender on the track and increase track power to full. Using your LEGACY remote, ENG 2. DIR for directional control of the Auxiliary Tender's back-up light. ing the R coupler button will open the ElectroCoupler on the rear of the tender. 3

TrainMaster Command Operations TrainMaster Command Control operations Couple your Auxiliary Tender with the any Lionel TMCC steam locomotive and tender to experience all of the available TMCC features. Power your locomotive with an alternating-current (AC) transformer only. Powering your locomotive with a direct-current (DC) transformer, or in excess of 19 volts AC, may result in damage to sensitive electronic components. To operate your locomotive in the Command Control environment, you need a Command Base (available separately, 6-12911) and a CAB-1 Remote Controller (available separately, 6-12868). 1. Turn off track power and plug-in the Command Base. 2. Place your locomotive and tender on Lionel or Lionel-compatible O-31 or larger track and connect the drawbar between the locomotive and tender as illustrated in Figure 1 on page 3. Then couple the Auxiliary Tender to the rear of the locomotive's tender. 3. Increase track voltage to full power (no more than 19 volts AC). 4. ENG and the ID number assigned to your locomotive with your CAB-1 Remote Controller. 5. Throttle up and move em out. Your tender comes from the factory programmed with an ID# of 2. To actuate the tender s features, place the tender on the track and increase track power to full. Using your CAB-1 remote, ENG 2. DIR for directional control of the Auxiliary Tender's back-up light. ing the R coupler button will open the ElectroCoupler on the rear of the tender. 4

TrainMaster Command Operations Operating the auxiliary tender with a locomotive in a lash-up For more realism and ease of control, operate your tender in a lash-up with one or more locomotives. A simple example follows: Build train #7 with your locomotive ENG 1, and your auxiliary tender, ENG 2. Place engine and auxiliary tender on track and couple together. The end of the auxiliary tender with the coil coupler is considered to be the REAR of the tender. All commands are given using the CAB-1 remote. TR (this is for TRAIN) (this is to identify this consist as train number seven) (this is the locomotive s ID number) (this is for FRONT engine) (this sets the commands) Horn/Whistle should blow or light flicker depending on the locomotive. TR (this is the auxiliary tender ID number) (this is to designate the tender as the REAR unit) You re now ready to go. TR 7 and turn up the dial on the CAB-1 for power. The engine should move forward and the front light in the engine should be on. ing DIR will change the direction of the lash-up and the rear tender light will be on. ing the R coupler button will open the coupler on the rear of the auxiliary tender. You may still control each unit individually. Whenever a locomotive is in a lash-up, you can still individually address it (using its ENG ID #) to control lighting and operate the couplers. For more information on TrainMaster Command Control and advanced operating techniques, see your individual locomotive instruction booklet or your Lionel TrainMaster owner s manual. 5

TrainMaster Command operations Assigning your auxiliary tender a new ID# Example! Assign a new ID# to your Command-equipped auxiliary tender Set the tender PROGRAM/RUN Switch to PROG (see illustration for location) Command Base ON Place the tender on the track PowerMasters set to CMD or traditional power supplies ON FULL Turn track power on (PowerMasters): BOOST Program with a new ID#: ENG a number you choose (the ID#) SET Set PROGRAM/RUN Switch to RUN (see illustration for location) Your auxiliary tender remembers its ID# forever; change it any time with these steps. As your fleet of Commandequipped Lionels grows, give each unit its own ID#. Choose from any number between 1 and 99. Slide the PROGRAM/RUN switch to PROGRAM. Plug-in the Command Base and place the locomotive or auxiliary tender on track. Then, power up. Using CAB-1, press ENG, the ID#, then press the SET button located under CAB-1 s removable panel. See the light flash; that s your signal that the programming has been accepted. Now slide the switch to RUN. We recommend that you choose an easy-to-remember ID# for your locomotives. Some possibilities are part of the road number, your age, or any two-digit number that is not used by another locomotive. If you like, write the number on a small piece of tape and put this on the bottom of the frame to aid in remembering. 6

TrainMaster Command operations Maintaining the handrail antenna The handrails are more than just model grab irons they re the antenna for receiving Command Base digital communications. Please handle carefully to avoid handrail damage. To ensure optimum reception, both handrails are insulated from the die-cast shell. If you experience difficulty receiving Base communications, check the handrail ends in the body for the presence of insulating material. Ensure that each insulator is present and enjoys a proper fit. Finally, prevent the handrails from touching any part of the die-cast body. 7

Transformer Operations Transformer operations Couple your Auxiliary Tender with the any Lionel steam locomotive and tender. 1. Place your locomotive and tender on Lionel or Lionel-compatible O-31 or larger track and connect the drawbar between the locomotive and tender as illustrated in Figure 1 on page 3. Then couple the Auxiliary Tender to the rear of the locomotive's tender. 2. Power your locomotive and tender at 12-18 volts with your alternating current (AC) transformer. 3. Wait three to eight seconds until the locomotive s headlight illuminates and the LEGACY RailSounds sound system starts up. 4. Move em out! the DIRECTION button on your controller, then throttle up. 8

Transformer Operations Coupling your tender in the conventional environment Your auxiliary tender is equipped with a magnetic coupler at the front of the tender which can be operated using a Lionel remote-control track section, available separately. Additionally, by coupling a piece of rolling stock with a magnetic coupler to the tender s rear ElectroCoupler, you can also uncouple at the rear of the tender by using the remote control track section. Place the disc of the tender s front coupler or the disc of the rolling stock s coupler over the center coil of the remote control track section and press UNCOUPLE on the controller. The magnetic field pulls the disc downward and the coupler opens. The ElectroCoupler will NOT open manually or by using a remote-control track section. 9

Maintaining and servicing your locomotive Replacing your tender s lamp Your auxiliary tender is illuminated by one lamp, located at the rear of the tender. We recommend that you take your tender to your Lionel Service Center for any required lamp replacement. 10
