NOTE These operating instructions are only valid in combination with the E-Manager Midi 10.05 or higher operating manual. This document only describes the function of the AutoForce automatic coulter pressure control. ¾ Always follow the operating instructions for drill and E-Manager to ensure safe operation of the machine. AutoForce Introduction AutoForce is a system for the automatic coulter pressure adjustment on the Maestro. A cam with a sensor is attached to the axle of the depth guide wheel. The sensor determines the force acting from the ground on the depth guide wheel. The objective is keeping the contact force between depth guide wheel and ground constant, regardless of the soil conditions. As a result, the coulter body adapts to different soil conditions to ensure consistent placement depth. The systems may have a single or multi-section design. For systems with one section springs are attached to the drill unit in the track. For systems with several sections, the respective last section is reserved for the track. Springs can be retrofitted. NOTE The user is responsible for the quality of sowing in spite of the AutoForce automatic coulter pressure control. ¾ Check the quality of sowing and placement depth in the field several times and daily in case of different soil conditions. 4

Functional principle Forces on the drill unit A B C D Forces on the drill unit A B C D hydraulic coulter pressure force of the drill unit s weight force between soil and depth guide wheel (target value) force between soil and coulter discs The target value for the control of the coulter pressure is the force between the soil and the depth guide wheel (C). On soft soils, the force of the weight is sufficient for the coulter discs to penetrate the soil. On hard soils, the force between soil and the coulter discs (D) increases. As a result, the force (C) between the soil and depth guide wheel becomes smaller. The target value is therefore undercut. The coulter pressure (A) must now be increased hydraulically for the force (C) between soil and depth guide wheels to correspond to the target value again and the placement depth to remain constant. 5

For greater clarity, the presentation of the weight force and the force between soil and depth guide wheel is omitted on the following illustrations. Maestro without AutoForce H H Sowing on soft, moist or light soil Placement depth H is observed, the force acting from the soil on the coulter discs is relatively low. Sowing on hard soil, clod-type soil or rocky soil The force acting on the coulter discs increases, the placement depth decreases. Maestro with AutoForce H H Sowing on soft, moist or light soil Placement depth H is observed, the force acting from the soil on the coulter discs is relatively low. Sowing on hard soil, clod-type soil or rocky soil Additional coulter pressure is hydraulically applied to the drill unit to allow deeper penetration of the soil. Placement depth H remains consistent. 6

Operation AutoForce screen The AutoForce screen can be accessed via the corresponding button on the working screen or the additional key. Depending on the terminal, the button can be selected by rotary wheel or touch. Manual mode The manual mode is active is the automatic mode is disabled. NOTE The target values must be determined in the field. ¾ Check the quality of sowing and placement depth in the field several times and daily in case of different soil conditions. ¾ Correct the values for the coulter pressure as required. 8

Sensor calibration (Teach) not possible The following prerequisites must be met to be able to perform the calibration: No speed signal No working signal No fan speed Machine unfolded Drill units do not touch the ground Value range (without load) in which the sensor can be calibrated: 2.8 ma - 5.2 ma One or more of these prerequisites are not met. Sensor failure The system continues working as long as one sensor still functions. Check if the use of AutoForce is still practical. Check the coulter pressure Check the selection of the coulter pressure valve. 14

Possible causes The target value is set too low. The dead weight of the drill unit is too high (the hydraulic coulter pressure display on the hopper shows 0 bar at light soil conditions) Sensor zero point shift / sensor is defective The drilling speed is too high. The hydraulic coulter pressure is too low. Feed pressure fan = coulter pressure ¾Check the pressure gauge on the fertiliser hopper. Working conditions too tough The target value is too low. Working conditions too tough Free movement of the parallelogram on the drill unit is limited. The sensor was plastically deformed. Faulty configuration Coulter pressure valves defective Wire break (ErrorCode 87) Short-circuit (ErrorCode 88) Sensor zero point shift Sensor must be checked Short-circuit (measured value > 25 ma); the input to the job computer was disabled. Wiring between sensor and slave computer is defective. Sensor defective Solution options Check target value setting. Recalibrate the sensor. Replace the sensor if calibration is not possible. Reduce the drilling speed. Increase the speed of vacuum fan and fertiliser fan (pneumatic bypass, consultation with HORSCH required) Springs required for pretension of the drill units Tillage necessary Increase the target value. Tillage necessary. Check the parallelogram and restore free movement. Check the sensor and replace it, if necessary. Note the section Sensor plastically deformed (ErrorCode 128). Check the configuration settings: auto must be selected in the Coulter pressure adjust. point. Check the selection of the coulter pressure valves in the Diagnostics menu. Open Diagnostics and check the sensor values. Values without load: 3.8-4.2 ma Values with excessive load: 4.5-5.5 ma Sensor can be calibrated as long as 5.5 ma is not exceeded. Without load (drill unit raised, machine unfolded) the value of the sensor is roughly 4 ma. The value changes by raising the corresponding depth guide wheel. Never place objects under the depth guide wheels and lower the coulter bar on it. The entire load of the machine rests on the sensor; it will be destroyed from the excessive load. Turn the machine off and on again. The job computer is reset if the fault was rectified. Replace the affected component replace the sensor Deactivate the failed sensors in the parameter screen Switch to manual mode Open Diagnostics and check the sensor values. Turn on the vacuum and fertiliser fan Adjust the % values in diagnostics. The hydraulic pressure rises when increasing the PWM signal; observe the pressure gauge on the fertiliser hopper. Only values in the range of 25-55 % cause a change of the hydraulic pressure 15
