Please report any missing items immediately. Compatibility This kit contains a SIT pilot mounting plate for the models listed below. This allows the SIT pilot assembly to be mounted to heaters originally designed for the Robert Shaw pilot assembly. After this kit is installed, use SIT pilot replacement parts. NE: if the model addressed is not listed below, you will need a different kit. The rear log shelf slides on and off the burner pan assembly Make sure the two tabs slide over the side of the burner pan on both sides. Rear og Shelf Burner Pan Assembly Position the shelf so the back edges of the shelf and burner pan are flush. 1 Remove the log set (see the owner's manual for details) and log shelf. 3 Disconnect the gas inlet to the gas control valve. Stoves The gas inlet on freestanding stoves protrudes from the rear panel. Inserts The gas inlet on inserts is on the left side - either facing to the rear or to the left. Disconnect the gas supply from the gas inlet and turn the pipe counterclockwise with a pipe wrench. DVS Fireplaces Disconnect the flex tube from the fitting on the gas control valve. 3/8" M.P.T to 1/2" O.D. Fitting Flex Tube 7/8" Wrench ADJ Gas Control Valve 3/4" Wrench Hold the fitting in place while unscrewing the flex tube. 4 Remove the burner assembly. d Remove the burner pan, tilting it forward to allow the gas control valve to clear the front of the heater. 7/16 Socket Wrench (use an extension) c Disconnect the six nuts used to attach the burner pan. b Disconnect the brown and red wires from the on/off switch. a Disconnect the orange wire from the burner pan to the piezo igniter. 5 Disconnect the thermopile wires. Standard Screwdriver Use a standard screwdriver to remove the two thermopile wires from the gas control valve. VENT ADJ HI O Gas Control Valve Red Thermopile Wire White Thermopile Wire 6 Disconnect the thermocouple wire. Use a 3/8" open end wrench to remove the thermocouple wire. VENT HI O 3/8" Wrench ADJ B-Vents Only Copper Tube Thermocouple Connector 7 Remove and discard the pilot tube. a Unscrew this compression nut. 8 Remove the Robert Shaw Assembly, including the wires and pilot tube, following the directions below. Burner Assembly Base Bracket Gasket Robert Shaw Assembly Remove the six screws holding the pilot assembly in place. 1/4" Nutdriver 9 Remove the pilot shield from the Robert Shaw pilot assembly and attach to the SIT pilot assembly following the directions below. The Robert Shaw pilot assembly may be discarded at this time. Shield Shield Robert Shaw Bracket Use a drill to remove the two rivets holding the pilot shield to the pilot bracket. SIT Bracket Use the included screws to attach the pilot shield to the SIT pilot bracket. Page 4 of 6 402314 Travis Industries, Inc.
10 Attach the new pilot bracket following the directions below. Burner Assembly Base Bracket Gasket SIT Mounting Bracket 1/4" Nutdriver Use the screws removed earlier to attach the mounting bracket to the burner assembly base. 11 Thread the pilot tube, thermocouple, thermopile, and igniter wire through the pilot bracket. Attach each of these to the appropriate connection. Attach the SIT Assembly to the bracket following the directions below. 12 If using propane (P), install the P pilot orifice following the directions below. a ift the pilot hood off the pilot c Remove the orifice and replace with the P orifice. Screw the orifice all the way in and replace the pilot hood. assembly. Orifice Identification: P (Propane) Orifice b Use a hex wrench to unscrew the orifice. 35 35 NG (Natural Gas) Orifice 62 5/32" Hex NE: when re-attaching, this pin lines up with the notch in the pilot hood. 13 Install the burner. Make the gas line connection, bleed the gas line (if applicable), start the heater and thoroughly leak-test all gas connections and the gas control valve. Check the pilot. Adjust if necessary. To adjust the pilot flame, The pilot flame must contact the thermocouple and remove the cover screw thermopile (see the illustration below). Adjust the pilot up or and gasket and turn the needle valve (NE: if the needle valve is totally unscrewed, gas will come out of this port). Clockwise lowers the flame while counterclockwise raises it. Cover Screw Gasket ADJ Needle Valve Micro (1/16 ) Standard Screwdriver Cover Screw down as necessary. Replace the cover screw and gasket.
