Communication takes place in the IO-Link mode. SIO mode is supported. IO-Link parameters and functions in accordance with Smart-Sensor profiles Chapter 5. 2 binary data channels for programming switching functions and switching behaviour. SIO mode: Local configuration via the operating keys. In the SIO mode, OVEM has the function of a 2P variant (1 switching input, 2 switching outputs). Festo OVEM- -LK 1702a English 7

Functions: Control of the compressed air supply with 2 valve functions Chapter 4.3 Auto-Drop function: generation of an automatic eject pulse for accelerated vacuum purging and safe set-down Chapter 4.3 Air-saving function Chapter 4.4 Electrical and mechanical manual override Chapter 8.1 Monitoring of vacuum build-up through integrated pressure sensor. If the setpoint value is reached, or if it is not reached due to malfunctions (e.g. leakage, dropped workpiece), the vacuum generator emits an electrical signal and a status message. Prevention of vacuum purging through internal check valve if vacuum generation is interrupted. Data storage and expanded monitoring function. 4.2 Switching functions The binary outputs can be configured via the switching functions. The switching status information is thereby made available at the electric port as a process value or binary signal. IO-Link mode: 3 BDC (binary data channels), bit 0: BDC1 or BDC2, bit 1: BDC3 Chapter 5.3 SIO mode: 2 switching outputs Out A and Out B The switching logic of the binary outputs can be configured as normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC). The switching mode of the binary outputs can be determined as threshold value or window comparator. Threshold value comparator Normally open (NO) Normally closed (NC) Switching function 1 Switchpoint (SP1) Teach mode 1) : 2 Teach-in points (TP1, TP2) SP1 = ½ (TP1+TP2) OUT 1 0 1) TP1 = smaller pressure value, TP2= larger pressure value, independent of the Teach sequence Tab. 2 Threshold value comparator: setting of switchpoint SP1 and hysteresis HY HY TP1 SP1 TP2 p OUT 1 0 HY TP1 SP1 TP2 p Window comparator Normally open (NO) Normally closed (NC) Switching function: OUT OUT 2 switchpoints (SP1, SP2) 1 HY HY 1 HY HY Teach mode 1) : 2 Teach-in points (TP1, TP2) 0 TP1=SP1 TP2=SP2 p 0 TP1=SP2 TP2=SP2 p 1) TP1 = smaller value, TP2 = larger value, independent of the Teach sequence Tab. 3 Window comparator: setting of switchpoints SP1, SP2 and hysteresis HY 8 Festo OVEM- -LK 1702a English

4.3 Valve control Depending on the input signal, the vacuum solenoid valve or the ejector pulse solenoid valve is controlled. IO-Link mode: 2 BCS (binary control signals), bit 0: BDC1, bit 1: BDC2 Chapter 5.3 SIO mode: 1 switching input DI1 (Z BCS1). Switching input positive switching (PNP) Auto-drop function: The ejector pulse is generated after the signal change Suction (BCS1). The pulse length can be set through the parameter Auto-Drop time Tab. 10. 4.4 Air-saving function The air-saving function reduces air consumption during the evacuation phase. 50 mbar (fixed) 1 2 3 4 t BCS1/DI1 BDC1 t t 1 Hysteresis (HY) 2 Threshold value Switch off suction = switchpoint (SP1) 3 Threshold value Switch on suction 4 Reset point (RSP1) Fig. 3 Mode of operation of the air-saving function If the pressure value has reached the switchpoint SP1 2, vacuum generation is deactivated. A an internal check valve prevents the reduction of the vacuum. Vacuum can still be reduced slowly due to leakage in the overall system (e.g. due to rough workpiece surfaces). To reduce energy consumption, vacuum generation is not switched on until the lower threshold value 3 is fallen below. This procedure runs as long as the control signal is present at BCS1/DI1. The air saving function is activated in the factory. 4.5 Monitoring and diagnostics The vacuum generator has monitoring functions that permit early detection of malfunctions or errors in ongoing operation. Monitoring of process parameters (pressure value at the vacuum connection, limit values of binary data channels, evacuation time t E, air supply time t B ). Error detection and diagnostic messages Chapter 9 The monitoring functions are activated at the factory (except for monitoring of the evacuation and air supply times). The time monitoring can be activated through setting of the limit values SP1 (evacuation time) and SP2 (air supply time) in BDC4 Tab. 9. The switching status information of the BDC4 is not included in the process input data (Process data IN). 10 Festo OVEM- -LK 1702a English

4.6 Measured variables Pressure value (vacuum) The pressure value (vacuum) is continuously measured between the vacuum connection and filter. The minimum and maximum measured pressure values are saved. If the operating voltage of the vacuum generator is switched off, these values are reset. Cycle time A cycle covers the time from the start of evacuation through ejection to the start of the new evacuation. Evacuation time and air supply time The evacuation time t E is measured from the start of evacuation until reaching of the switchpoint SP1 by BDC1 or BDC2. The air supply time t B is measured from the start of air supply to the time at which the pressure value (vacuum) falls below 50 mbar. p Cycle time 1 50 mbar 0 2 t t E Transport time t B Return time BCS1/DI BDC1 or BDC2 / Out A Vacuum valve Ejector pulse valve 1 Switchpoint SP1 (BDC1 or BDC2) t E 2 Reset point RSP1 (BDC1 or BDC2) t B Fig. 4 Clock cycle (example for Out A (Air-save)) Evacuation time Air supply time Festo OVEM- -LK 1702a English 11

4.7 Teach function (Teach-In) The Teach function permits configuring the switchpoints and time monitoring during run time. Static Teach-In Depending on the Teach command, a switchpoint (SP) is determined from one or two teach-in points. The switchpoints are determined statically, that is, the measurement value remains constant during the entire Teach-In procedure. During execution of the Teach-In procedure, the air save function is deactivated for the duration of the procedure. Teach commands Tab. 15 Simplified Teach commands BDCx Start (Teach Start), BDCx Stop (Teach Stop) can be used independently of the switching function. The sequence of the teach-in points must be taken into account. For all commands, first the desired channel must be selected. Dynamic Teach-In Setpoint values are calculated within the Teach-In procedure from a time period. The procedure is used for determination of evacuation and air supply times Fig. 5. After the start of the Teach-In, the time t E and t B is measured at each cycle. With multiple cycle times, the times are averaged. After the stop of the Teach-In, a function reserve of 100 % is added to the averaged values. p SP1 50 mbar Teach Start t E1 1 tb1 2 t E2 t B2 Teach Stop t Vacuum valve 3 4 5 t 1 Transport time 2 Return time Fig. 5 Dynamic mode of operation Teach-In 3 Cycle time 1 4 Cycle time 2 5 Cycle time N 12 Festo OVEM- -LK 1702a English

4.8 Data storage (Data Storage) The data storage mechanism (DS) permits consistent and updated saving of device parameters to higher levels, such as PLC programs or fieldbuses. Changes of the parameters are messaged by the vacuum generator to the IO-Link Master, which then fetches the parameter, saves it in a higher-level system and makes it available to the new device if the vacuum generator is replaced. Parameters that can be saved Chapter 5 The data storage mechanism is supported at the device, but is administered by the application (IO-Link master). 4.9 Block parameterisation Block parameterisation permits uniform access to parameters over multiple indexes or subindexes as well as transfer of entire parameter sets. Transfer of block parameters through start and end commands Tab. 15 During transfer, parameter changes (e.g. through Teach-In) are blocked. In case of an invalid parameter set, the changed parameters are discarded and the previous parameter set is reactivated. Festo OVEM- -LK 1702a English 13
