Area-wise Saudi Arabia is the 10 th largest country in the world. Proven oil reserves of 265 billion barrels which is more than 1/4 th of the world total. In addition, having 220 trillion cu ft gas reserve, ranking 4 th in the world. Total population is more than 26 Millions with growth rate of nearly 4%. This rapid growth and development in infrastructure is calling for an increasing power demand by 6.5% or more every year. 3
The Kingdom's current infrastructure and public sector building 5 -year plan is valued at US$ 35 billion. Total investment in power sector in the next 15 years expected to be around 117 billion dollars, 54% in Generation, 29% in Transmission and 17% in Distribution. Water and Electricity Minister Abdullah Al-Hussayen described Saudi Arabia and Egypt as the largest power generators in the Middle East with a combined capacity of 50,000 megawatt. Saudi Arabia has plans to increase power capacity from the current 34,000 MW to 55,000 MW by year 2018 and to 70,000 MW by 2025. 4

The International Energy Agency forecasts the need for an additional 269GW in the region by 2030 at a cost of $458 billion, and predicts Saudi Arabia and the UAE will have the fastest growth rates from 2010 onwards to 2030. According to experts, Arab countries will require $50 billion for electricity power generation, transportation and distribution by 2010. Total Investment in Oil & Gas sector in KSA expected in next 4 years 80 b USD. (Engg & PM 10 b, Material 40 b and Construction 30 b USD). 7
Increasing demand and steep increase in crude oil price and added to that a huge surplus in the budget has fueled the Saudi economy resulting into development of many mega infrastructural projects like : 4 New IWPP Projects with Saudi Aramco. Jubail Industrial City II Yanbu Industrial City. Dammam Jubail- Jeddah Rail Network. Expansion & Up-gradation programs of Aramco. Expansion projects of SABIC. King Abdullah Economic City. Makkah & Madina expansion Project. Ministry of Education Schools and Vocational training institutes. Mining Projects. GCC Grid. Saudi Arabia and Egypt Power-grid Interconnection. 600,000 Housings and 600 New Factories on infrastructure upgradation plan. 8

Middle East Electric Meter Factory (MEMF) was established in 1997 to manufacture kwh meters in collaboration with Iskraemeco. Started production in 1999 with a capacity of 50,000 meters. In 2000 manufacturing line for Moulded Case Circuit Breakers (MCCB) was added with an initial capacity of 200,000 MCCB s annually. In 2001 MEMF facility was expanded to include manufacturing of LV Current Transformers (CT s) with an annual capacity of 100,000 CT s. 10
In 2001 the initial factory area of 5,000 Sq.mtrs. was expanded to 10,000 Sq.mtrs., by securing the plot behind MEMF factory and in 2007 the MEMF facility which was spread over 10,000 Sq.mtrs. was further expanded to 15,000 Sq.mtrs. by securing the plot adjacent to the initial MEMF factory. As such today MEMF has spread over an area of 15,000 Sq.mtrs. In 2003, MEMF facilities were ISO-9000 certified. New manufacturing and testing line for panel indicating meters was added in 2003 and agreement with Iskra- MIS formalized in 2005 for panel meters. 11
In 2005 the initial manufacturing capacity of kwh Meters was increased to 300,000 meters p.a. In 2005 MEMF formed a joint-venture (74:26) with ETA- PCS (AlGhurair Group of Dubai) to form a new company viz., MEMF-ETA Switchgear Manufacturing Company for manufacturing a range of panel boards. In 2006, the MCCB manufacturing capacity was increased to 500,000 breakers p.a. and LV Current Transformers to 200,000 p.a. by adding new machineries and testing equipment. 12
In 2006 a manufacturing line for Medium Voltage resin cast Instrument Transformers was established. In 2006 MEMF entered into technical collaboration with ETI for manufacture of Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCB s) with an annual capacity of 1.5 million MCB s. All products being manufactured by MEMF i.e., kwh meters, MCCB s, MCB s, LV/MV CT s were type tested from internationally reputed laboratories like KEMA, ASTA or CPRI. While the factory building was being constructed on an area of 20,000 Sq.mtrs., MEMF-ETA started assembling of the panels since 2007 and starting seeking approvals for various panels by also conducting type tests on the same. 13
In October 2008 the MEMF-ETA factory was fully operational with state-of-art facilities like machine shop, fabrication shop, sheet metal treatment, powder coating facility, gasketing plant and busbar manufacturing. MEMF-COTMAC was established in Jan 2007 as a joint-venture (55:45) with Cotmac. Cotmac being the leader in automation, SCADA and SCMS panels, has been the biggest system integrator of Siemens in India and Siemens, KSA wanted Cotmac to form a local company to capture the vast market for automation field here. Since a lot of panel activities are involved, Cotmac found KFB Group as an ideal partner as we have an elaborate manufacturing unit for entire range of panel boards in the group company MEMF-ETA. In Nov 2007 MEMF had a joint-venture (50:50) with Federal Transformers (AlNasser Group of Abu Dhabi) to form Saudi-Federal Transformers for manufacturing a range of distribution transformers up to 36kV. The factory construction was commenced in July 2008 and completed in August 2009 and is now fully operational for manufacturing distribution transformers with a capacity to produce annually 2000 MW distribution transformers. 14
