Caution: When you do maintenance or repair on CNC machines and their components, you must always follow basic safety precautions. This decreases the risk of injury and mechanical damage. Do these steps before you do work in the machine or in the control cabinet: Set the main circuit breaker to the [OFF] position. Use an approved lock with an approved safety tag. Always follow lock-out procedures in accordance to local government rules. After turning off the machine, wait at least 5 minutes before working in the control cabinet, to allow power to dissipate. Wait for the voltage indicator LED on the vector drive to go off completely. Always turn off the main air supply when you work on any part of the pneumatic system. Make sure to rest the spindle head on a block of wood when work is done on a vertical axis. This will prevent any unintended movement that could result in the axis falling. Never alter any safety circuits on the machine. Never change any parameter while in DEBUG mode (Classic Haas Control) and the servos ON. Put the machine in Emergency Stop mode to change any parameters. Never operate the machine in DEBUG mode (Classic Haas Control). You should not do machine repair or service procedures unless you are qualified and knowledgeable about the processes. Serious damage to the machine components can result in costly repairs. The service technicians at your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) have the training and experience, and are certified to do these tasks safely and correctly. The repair and service work performed by your HFO is protected with a limited warranty. Danger: Some service procedures can be dangerous or life-threatening. DO NOT attempt a procedure that you do not fully understand. If you have any doubts about doing a procedure contact your Haas Factory Outlet (HFO) and schedule a service visit. Machine Compatibility Do this procedure for these machines: VF-1/2 made after December 15, 2013 VF-3/4/5 made after April 1, 2014 VF-6/7/8/9/10/11/12 made after April 15, 2014 Mini Mills made after December, 2016 Toolroom Mills made after December, 2016 Copyright 2018 by Haas Automation, Inc. VMC - Auto Air Gun STEP 1 Jog the Z Axis to the bottom of travel. Push [POWER OFF]. Set the main circuit breaker to the OFF position. Lock the main circuit breaker. Use an approved lock and an approved safety tag. Close the primary air valve. This stops the air supply to the machine. STEP 2 Open the bleed valve on the air manifold. Do this until all air pressure is released. Make sure that the air pressure is 0 psi (0 bar). Remove and discard the manifold plug [1]. Clean the port threads [2] on the manifold. Install the SOLENOID ASSY MANIFOLD [A] into the manifold port. The solenoid has a red cable tie [3] on the push lock fitting. Connect the factory-installed 1/4" red tube [4] to the solenoid. Note: Refer to the Air-Lubrication System decal inside the lubrication cabinet for correct solenoid placement. Connect the solenoid cable to the connector that has the "AUTO AIR GUN" label on the connector panel. STEP 3 If the machine does not have PCOOL, remove the top spindle cover. Note: If the machine has PCOOL with an access port behind the PCOOL bracket [3], do not remove the top spindle cover. Remove the PCOOL bracket to get to the access port. Find the red 1/4" air tube [1] in the spindle head. Put the tube through the rear slot [2] in the spindle head casting. Install the spindle head cover. Copyright 2018 by Haas Automation, Inc. STEP 4 Install the bracket: [1] 40-Taper spindle: install the BRACKET MQL AIR CYLINDER [C] to the right front side of the spindle head with the (2) BOLT, BHCS 1/4-20 X 3/8 [B]. [2] 50-Taper spindle: install the BRACKET MQL AIR CYLINDER [C] to the bottom right-front corner of the spindle head with the the (2) BOLT, BHCS 1/4-20 X 3/8 [B]. [3] Mini Mill, Super Mini Mill, or Toolroom Mill : attach the BRACKET MQL AIR CYLINDER [C] to the AAG MOUNT BRKT MM/TM [J] with the (2) BOLT, BHCS 1/4-20 X 3/8 [B]. Remove the (2) screws [4] from the PCOOL bracket. Use the screws to install the completed AAG bracket assembly to the PCOOL bracket. STEP 5 Assemble the air gun: [1] 40-taper spindle [2] 50-taper spindle [3] Mini Mill, Super Mini Mill, and Toolroom Mill Put the AAG MQL AIR CYL COLLAR CLAMP [D] into the bracket. Put the CYLINDER, AIR AAG SEAT CLAMP BINDER [E] through the bracket. Attach the NUT, 1/4-28 [F] to the clamp binder. Install the CYLINDER, AIR AAG MQL [G] into the cylinder clamp. Push the air cylinder fully down into the cylinder clamp and tighten the clamp. Install the red 1/4" air tube [3] to the air gun. Copyright 2018 by Haas Automation, Inc. STEP 6 Adjust the air gun: [1] 40-taper spindle and Mini Mill, Super Mini Mill, and Toolroom Mill [2] 50-taper mill Push [POWER ON]. Jog the Z Axis to the top of travel. Push [EMERGENCY STOP]. Loosen the cylinder clamp handle [E]. Move the air gun until the top of the cylinder [G] is 3" (76 mm) above the cylinder clamp [D]. Make sure the air gun has at least 1/2 " (13 mm) clearance from all surfaces Tighten the cylinder clamp handle [E]. Insert the ROLL PIN [H]. Open the primary air valve. This supplies air to the machine. Examine the air hoses for leaks. VMC - Auto Air Gun - Operation This procedure tells you how to operate the Auto Air Gun (AAG). STEP 1 For mill software version 11.07 and higher: M83 starts the air blast. M84 stops the air blast. Copyright 2018 by Haas Automation, Inc.
