And since they re ready to use, they re great accessories for train sets and seasonal display layouts too. Trackside Structures make your Railroad Look like A Railroad In the early days, railroad structures were custom-built. The costs of planning new buildings, however, led American railroads to adopt standard designs in the 1880s. Using the same materials reduced expenses, simplified construction, and gave every building on the line a family look. Railroads also painted buildings in company colors to enhance their identity. Walthers Trackside Built-ups make it easy to give your railroad that family feeling. Perfect for main, branch, shortline or industrial roads, you can mix and match to make your entire line more realistic. They re typical of designs used by American railroads until the 1970s, so they fit any location and era. Plus, they come in your choice of three realistic color schemes in HO, N and O Scale. Working Oil Pump for your Layout Finding oil is hard work and so is getting it out of the ground. Most wells use walking beam or horse head pumps to do so. This working accessory is a great way to model this vital industry. Typical of American designs in use since the 1920s, it includes a detailed stationary diesel power plant, walking beam, rear crank and counterweight, plus the odd-shaped horse head front counterweight that gives the machines their nickname. It s powered by a hidden drive with a slow-speed motor and gearbox that simulate the steady motions of the real thing. Great for small towns or big cities, each is fully assembled and includes a working interior light. 9-1/2" TALL 8" 4-7/8" The Right Firehouse for your City FIRE CO. NO. 4 933-2809 HO Scale $39.98 Since the 1880s, the busiest firehouses in the city have protected the central business district and industrial areas. Taller buildings in these areas made the hook and ladder truck a necessity. Stations built to house these large rigs had to be longer than those in other parts of town. Fire Co. No. 4 is one of these, with second-story living quarters and a tall hose drying tower. It also features opening wood doors for pre- 1970s scenes installed, with roll-top doors for modern scenes included. Many of these firehouses still serve today, typically housing an engine company or ambulance. Some have been preserved as museums, or remodeled into offices, shops and private homes. Based on a typical early 1900s design, Fire Co. No. 4 is right at home with factories, railroad facilities or commercial buildings. Also ideal as a display model, it s deep enough to handle most ladder trucks. Realistic decals are provided for customizing. HO Scale Fire Co.
