saluting the Ambassadors FIA Foundation pays tribute to activists Zoleka Mandela and Michelle Yeoh PG 3 Kristensen at FIA Institute Le Mans legend is elected to organisation s Executive Committee PG 4 Daily newsletter THURSDAY 05.12.13 AUTO ASSEMBLY Moving Sport Forward Today s ASN Forum saw the FIA unveil an array of new initiatives aimed at motor sport development

This morning s ASN Forum saw the federation s Sport department unveil its plans to develop motor sport across the regions over the next two years. Opening the meeting, FIA President Jean Todt said it is imperative for the federation to develop the highest standards of motor sport across the regions, regardless of whether an ASN was well established or emergent. To that end, FIA Commission Manager Frédérique Trouvé outlined the federation s plans for the coming years. She revealed that in order to assist ASN development, the FIA will next year begin establishing a Motor Sport Development department that will be tasked with supplying administrative support to ASNs, implementing FIA decisions and co-ordinating development activities. The FIA is also to set up an ASN Liaison office. This facility, she said, will be available to ASNs and clubs seeking advice about FIA services and access to them. To back up the departments, a new website will be created specifically for ASNs and clubs, enabling them to share experiences and information and to facilitate the launch of common projects. Beyond that, the FIA will also look at appointing a number of Regional Coordinators and will develop workshops at regional meetings to include the participation of FIA experts. In 2015, the federation will seek to implement a training platform for ASNs to be called the FIA Learning Centre. This will feature a number of modules and will be managed by FIA Sport in collaboration with the FIA Institute and the FIA University. The ultimate goal, it was explained, is to merge the work of the ASN Development Task Force and the Motor Sport Development Task Force and in 2016 create a new FIA Development Commission. Particular attention was also paid to the development of Sport Conference Week, with Deputy President Sport Graham Stoker saying: It was obvious to the President and myself that there was a strong and established Mobility Conference Week and this had to be explored in sport. We are going to make it an annual event so you can go away from it feeling like you are being supported. He then revealed that the 2014 conference will be held in Munich in conjunction with the Deutscher Motor Sport Bund (DMSB) and the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil- Club (ADAC). It will take place from 24-26 June. In regard to Sport Conference Week, delegates were also invited to explore the online review brochure of this year s conference, which details the recommendations made by ASNs during the three-day event. It can be seen at scwbrochure.fia.com. Finally, the forum also highlighted the availability of the ASN Development Manual with ASN Development Task Force Chairman Andrew Papadopoulos saying: We are translating this into French and Spanish and it will be available in the new year. We want this to get across to as many ASNs as possible. The manual, which provides guidance broken down into three areas ASN Structure and Management, Organising Competitions and Licensing and Training is the result of an exhaustive survey of the needs of ASNs. Such was the value of the survey, said Deputy President Stoker, that a second will be commissioned to further gauge the needs of ASNs worldwide.

fia ANNUAL GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2013 ASIA-PACIFIC REGION Creating synergy ASNs agree to explore possibility of regional karting and single-seater series Delegates from Asia-Pacific Region ASNs today pledged to increase club synergies in order to develop motor sport across the region, particularly at grassroots level. Delegates agreed that there is much common ground among ASNs in the region and recognising the value of the FIA s ASN Development Task Force manual they determined to follow its guidelines in growing clubs and membership. The meeting, chaired by Morrie Chandler of Motor Sport New Zealand, also agreed that in order to further explore the commonalities existing between ASNs in the region clubs will examine the possibility of setting up regional karting and single-seater competitions. NACAM American clubs plan for awards ceremony January s American Awards on NACAM agenda Sport clubs from across the Americas met this afternoon at the NACAM regional meeting to discuss a range of topics including the 2014 American Awards and plans for a new racing series in the region. The meeting discussed ongoing preparations for the next American Awards, set to take place on January 18 in Panama City, as well the possibility of launching a NACAM legends racing series using the same car type as recently raced at the Americas selection event of the FIA Institute s Young Driver Excellence Academy. The second half of the meeting was devoted to a gathering of all clubs from North and South America for a joint session at which all delegates expressed their enthusiasm for united action in Sport and Mobility.

FIA Foundation Making mobility fair, safe, clean, green Chairman pays tribute to two high-profile road safety ambassadors, as Acting Director General reports on ongoing mobility campaign work Opening today s meeting, FIA Foundation Chairman Tim Keown began by welcoming Global Road Safety Ambassadors Zoleka Mandela and Michelle Yeoh and thanked them for their personal commitment to road safety and support of the Long Short Walk earlier this year. Looking back on the Foundation s activities of the past year, Acting Director General Saul Billingsley said pushing for the inclusion of safe and sustainable transport in the UN s Post-2015 development agenda has been the top priority, as this would give a tremendous boost if achieved. The current debate on global priorities provides a oncein-a-generation opportunity to integrate policies for road safety, fuel efficiency and clean mobility into the mainstream of global priorities, he said. In the field of road safety, over 1.5 million euros has been allocated to date by the Foundation in support of the FIA Road Safety Grant Programme and club projects. This has seen 72 innovative road safety initiatives started in 51 countries, including awareness campaigns, educational programmes and training, vulnerable road users protection, conferences, events and workshops, road infrastructure safety information, and vehicle inspection programmes. Outlining the Foundation s agenda for Safe, Clean, Fair & Green mobility for all, Billingsley said that environmental advocacy was being carried out at the highest levels through the Global Fuel Economy Initiative and Partnership for Clean Fuels and Vehicles. FIA INSTITUTE Kristensen joins Institute Le Mans legend and WEC winner elected to Executive Committee Nine-time Le Mans champion and 2013 World Endurance Championship title winner Tom Kristensen has been elected to the FIA Institute Executive Committee by the organisation s General Assembly, which met in Paris today. The Executive Committee plays a pivotal role in providing direction to the activities of the FIA Institute, deciding on the organisation s strategy and selecting the projects to be undertaken. The work the FIA Institute does in motor sport safety and sustainability is vitally important and I hope that my experience as a driver can help contribute to that, said Kristensen. The Institute s Sustainability Programme was also on the agenda, with FIA Institute Deputy President Garry Connelly presenting its Environmental Certification programme and Carbon Offset project. The Environmental Certification Framework concerns waste management, water usage, energy use and other environmental concerns. Connelly said: Accreditation allows stakeholders, be it an ASN, a mobility club or any other stakeholder, to measure themselves against the framework and seek accreditation at three different levels; commitment, progress and achievement. The Carbon Offset project, meanwhile, provides an online system enabling motor sport stakeholders to calculate, manage and compensate for avoidable and unavoidable emissions.

Day FOUR Making connections The Annual General Assembly is not just a chance to reflect on the past year and to make plans for the next but also an opportunity to express ideas, exchange information and relax with colleagues from around the world. Day four at the AGA was no exception.
