MONOLITE Valve Regulated Lead-acid Batteries

MONOLITE - A unique combination of benefits for users. HIGH ENERGY DENSITY The compact MONOLITE construction allows a significant reduction in space and weight compared to traditional stationary cells. HIGH PERFORMANCE MONOLITE technology allows an excellent performance at high rates of discharge with considerable reduction of the capacity required to meet the duty cycle. LONG LIFE MONOLITE is designed to offer its excellent performance for 10 years under appropriate operating conditions. EASY INSTALLATION MONOLITE batteries are delivered filled and charged and can be installed on stands or into cabinets, with no requirement for separate battery rooms. All this can be summarized into gains in initial investment and reduced operating cost. RECOMBINATION THE KEY TO MONOLITE TECHNOLOGY THE PROBLEM When a conventional lead acid cell becomes fully charged, hydrogen and oxygen gases are produced by electrolysis and released into the atmosphere. This results in a loss of water in the cell which is in addition to normal evaporation. These are the reasons why traditional lead batteries need ventilation and topping up is an essential but costly maintenance requirement. THE SOLUTION MONOLITE, with its valve regulated "absorbed electrolyte" construction, provides the solution. In simple terms during the recharge the oxygen gas evolved from the positive plate within the cell migrates through the pores of the special separator, where the electrolyte in effectively retained, to the surface of the negative plate where it forms lead oxide. This, by reaction with the electrolyte, gives lead sulphate and water. The reaction is complete when the lead sulphate reacts with the hydrogen present at the negative plate, producing lead and sulphuric acid. In this way the quantity of electrolyte remains virtually constant during the life of the battery. As all these reactions take place in an isolated environment, with MONOLITE topping up is no longer necessary and the battery can be used in any normal environment when natural ventilation is available. ELECTRICAL CHARACTERISTICS The MONOLITE range of batteries have super high rate performance in addition to excellent normal and low rate discharge capability. The wide range of monoblocs offer flexibility in battery design. TEMPERATURE RANGE MONOLITE batteries may be operated over a temperature range of -10 С to +40 C. However, as with any secondary battery, performance and life are affected by temperature extremes. OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS MONOLITE valve regulated lead acid batteries require constant voltage recharge. Recommended float voltage is 2.27 V per cell + 1%at25 C. In case of considerable temperature excursion, for extended periods of time, it is desirable to adjust this voltage with temperature (see graph). For recharge following to a battery discharge, the preferred recharge method would be ID (or modified constant potential), with maximum voltage of 2.27 + 1 % V per cell and a maximum current of 0.25 C10 Amps (i.e. a maximum of 25 Amperes per 100 Ah capacity). For faster recharge it is also possible to use, with certain precautions, a higher recharge voltage of 2.4 V per cell, under the same maximum current conditions. For optimum storage it is recommended to recharge the batteries when the open circuit voltage reaches 2.10 V per cell and in any case at least every six months. SAFETY VALVES Each cell has a one way relief valve that opens at low pressure (30 kpa). Designed to prevent leakage over a wide temperature range throughout battery life. CONTAINER AND LID Battery containers and lids are made of thick-wall ABS plastic, flame retardent to UL 94 class V-O, BS 6334 Method FV and IEC 707, VO. They are designed for high mechanical resistance and to fully withstand the internal pressure variations during battery operation. Threaded pillars with brass insert to ensure high current conductivity. The electrolyte is a high purity diluted sulfuric acid with s.g. 1.3 at 25 C. Both positive and negative plates are of flat pasted type. The grids are made of high quality lead calcium tin alloy, sized to ensure a long and reliable battery life. SEPARATORS Microporous of fine glass fibers, to assure an extremely low resistance as well as optimum electrolyte asborption.
