SECTION 1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION 1.1 INTRODUCTION The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub is a revolutionary product that allows you to easily install and connect avionics into an existing aircraft or one you are building. The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub was designed to accept and connect most NAV/GPS/COM, modern audio panels, intercoms, VOR indicators, moving map displays, and almost any send/receive RS-232 formatted device. Approach s custom cables are made to connect with the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub and associated avionics and come with connectors installed. This manual describes the physical, mechanical, and electrical characteristics of the installation requirements for the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub interconnect box and associated cables. 1.1.1 EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub typical and its associated cables are designed to connect the various interconnections in an IFR installation. This document assumes the IFR Aircraft does not require mode switching, mode annunciation, or GPS deviation indication connections. The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub can connect to: Two GPS / NAV devices Two COM devices Two NAV Display devices One Intercom One Transponder One Encoder One Audio Panel One Autopilot I/F One 1.1.2 FEATURES The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub features the following: Modular Custom Cabling Milspec Tefzel Wiring Simple to Install Simplifies Upgrades Virtually No Hand wiring meaning less chance of error Lower Upgrade Costs Single Point Grounding 4

1.2.4 CONNECTOR CABLES Approach Fast Stack cables are fitted (at both ends) with specific connectors to make connections to the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub and to your avionics. Each Approach cable is typically 24 inches long. The Approach cable for an indicator is typically 36 inches long. The standard power and ground leads are 48 inches. The size of the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub and associated cables permits installation virtually anywhere behind your panel. In addition, since the cables are shorter, there is less noise, less potential for ground loops and less voltage losses. All cable wires are Milspec Tefzel and are of proper gauge and shielding. Figure 2: Approach Cable shows the different components to a generic cable. Figure 2: Approach Cable The following table corresponds to Figure 2: Approach Cable. SECTION 2 INSTALLATION PROCEDURES 2.1 GENERAL INFORMATION The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub is compact and lightweight permitting installation anywhere behind the instrument panel. Simply select the appropriate Approach cables for your avionics, plug them in and you re done. All Approach cables are Milspec Tefzel wire with proper gauge and shielding. Cable ends are terminated with the right connector connecting the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub to the avionics. The Approach Hub is not considered an active component and Approach cables comply with FAA AC43.13-1B/2A. This means that the Approach Hub and Cable System are recommended wires and connections already existing today behind the instrument panel and are FAA approved. 2.2 UNPACKING AND INSPECTING The Fast Stack system comes in two or more boxes. One box contains the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub, install manual, and a packing slip of what was ordered (keep these for future reference). The other box(s) contain the cables you ordered for your installation. 2.3 INSTALLING THE FAST STACK PRO-G HUB 2.3.1 CONNECTING THE FAST STACK PRO-G HUB 1. Locate the four mounting holes on the mounting bracket connected to the Fast Stack Pro- G Hub. 2. Using a Phillips-head screwdriver to screw down the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub mounting bracket to an electric ground point or airframe ground. In the case of a non-aluminum (wood, composite, etc.) aircraft, a large gauge wire should be attached to the best ground available. Slide the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub into place and secure it using the two lock nuts. 3. Connect the leads from the Approach cable to the specified circuit breaker switch or power source. (IMPORTANT: Refer to the owner s or installation manual of the device s for information on connecting power). 4. Connect the appropriate leads to lighting (see individual avionics installation manual). Pay close attention to lighting connections. In the case of some King devices, 14V or 28V wiring is selected by wire connection combinations. (See the device s specific installation manual). Installing the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub continued... 7

5. Attach your cables to the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub to the appropriate connector (e.g., GPS/NAV, Intercom, etc.). The Proper cable must be installed in the correct position on the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub. The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub sheet also shows the correct cable placement. The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub was created without an internal power source. This was done to prevent damage in mis-cabling situations. Although damage is less likely to occur, without proper installation cables and corresponding devices will not perform their intended function. 6. Move cables away from high energy sources such as coaxial cables, 400HZ AC. 7. Attach the Approach cable s avionic connector side to its associated slot in the Avionic Stack. (See the owner s manual of the device for more details). Note: You do not need to have cables attached to every connector in the Fast Stack Pro-G Hub. 8

SECTION 3 CONNECTOR DEFINITIONS 3.1 GENERAL INFORMATION The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub and Cable System is a complete solution delivering everything you need making avionic installs and upgrades fast, cost-effective and safe while eliminating the rat s nest behind the instrument panel. The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub and Cable System is compatible with most NAV/GPS/COM., modern audio panels, intercoms, moving map displays, VOR indicators, HSI s, RMI s, ADF s, mode control and just about any send and receive RS-232 and ARINC formatted electronic device. The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub is designed for a full Garmin, Apollo, or Bendix/King stack. The Fast Stack Pro-G Hub minimizes electronic noise and other associated problems of hand wiring by centralizing the grounding and utilizing uniform cable shielding with proper termination providing improved, lifetime avionic performance. 3.2 CONNECTOR PIN OUTS AND TARGET PIN OUTS Figure 2: PRO-G rev C Hub Connector View C1 Transponder C2 Encoder C3 Autopilot C4 C5 Comm #1 C6 Display #1 C7 C8 Comm #2 C9 Display #2 C10 Audio Panel C11 Intercom C12 GPS I/O 9
