CIRCLE TRACK S GREAT AMERICAN RACING SERIES Disclaimer These rules are property of the GREAT AMERICAN RACING SERIES. The guidelines and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. These guidelines shall govern the condition of events and participation therein. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of events and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, competitor or official. The GARS Tech Director, or GARS management, are empowered to permit any minor deviation from any of the guidelines and or regulations herein, or impose any further restriction, which, in his or her opinion, does not alter the purpose of the organization. Deviation of these guidelines and or regulations will be the responsibility of the GREAT AMERICAN RACING SERIES officials, whose decisions are final. The enclosed rules are written in a simplified format so as to use commonly used terminology in the racing industry for this division. It is the owner or driver s responsibility to contact GARS officials for any and all questions regarding these rules and the interpretation thereof. General Car Dimensions. Body General Dimensions. Measurements will be taken at racing set up. Minimum Roof Height: 51 inches Maximum Spoiler Height: 40 inches Minimum Under body or Frame Height: 5 inches (excluding Exhaust) Overall Body width Maximum: 80 inches Spoiler size: 60 inches wide / 8 Inches high. Must be Straight Blade Minimum Wheel Base: 105 Inches minimum Tread Width Maximum: 78 inches measured on ground / out-side to out-side of tires front and rear tires. Minimum Vehicle Weight: 364 cubic inch engine and smaller - 3100 pounds with driver. Fuel burn off will be assessed 1 pound per lap. 365 cubic inches to 410 cubic inch motors will be - 3200 pounds with driver. Fuel burn off will be assessed 1 pound per lap. Call GARS officials for details if engine exceeds 411 cubic inches. Adjustments to weights maybe made at any time for non conforming parts. These adjustments will be added to total weights for your vehicle. 1 Page

All ballast (weight) must be painted white with car numbers marked and clearly visible on each weight. All ballast must be lead or steel. Ballast must be securely mounted in car. Any weight inside driver area must be secured with a minimum of 2 bolts. Any ballast lost during an event will be grounds for immediate disqualification. Any and all ballast must meet GARS official s approval. 56% percent left side weight maximum (1% tolerance) with driver in seat, belted and with helmet and wheel in place. (Race Configuration) Rear wheel drive cars only. Burn off will be addressed at each drivers meeting. The use of light weight hardware (bolts, fasteners and other items) will not be tolerated. Titanium parts or carbon fiber are not allowed anywhere on racing vehicle. We reserve the right to disqualify and / or confiscate any part(s) at any time. Body Bodies must resemble a stock American manufactured type automobile. No excessive roof rake or over all body rake will be allowed. Bodies must be maintained and neatly painted. Bodies may be made of steel, aluminum or fiberglass. Roof panel must be stock type and configuration with year make and model of body. Steel roof maybe gutted. No lowered or chopped roofs allowed. Any aftermarket panel must be made for that type of automobile and may not be changed in any way as produced by the factory/oem. Vehicles must retain STOCK appearance. Any body part maybe deemed illegal at any time at the discretion of GARS officials. Camaro and Firebird bodies allowed from 1970 to 1981. Pony cars (including 2010 & up) may also be used with official approval. Stock automotive bodies with a wheelbase of 108 and larger may be 2 Page

used with official s approval. Call for approval on other types of bodies outside the scope of these rules. A Series goal is to have a body on your race car that people/fans know what make and model it is and can identify and relate to. Series Officials must be able to utilize templates for complete windshield and back glass in car for legal conformity. All windshields will be a minimum of 1/4 inch Lexan and will be bolted in and approved. On dirt tracks a screen may be used. Three (3) windshield braces are mandatory at all times, secured from roof to cowl in front 1/2 wide steel straps / 1/8 inch thick steel. Rear window will have 2 braces required at all times. All bodies will need side and rear windows on asphalt tracks except drivers and passenger door windows. These windows will be plastic and preferably Lexan. No glass allowed. Dirt tracks may have side and back windows removed. Nose and tail panels may be aftermarket plastic but must retain the year make and model of car. No slant, down force or cow catcher noses will be allowed. Side skirts are allowed. Ground clearance must be 6 inches minimum. No down force style bodies allowed. Front spoilers maybe used with minimum ground clearance of 6 inches. Right DOOR GLASS AND AREA WILL REMAIN OPEN! No coolers or scoops allowed. Vent windows in front door openings may be 12 inches maximum (Measured at top of door skin panel) and must be straight (no flairs) and cut at 90 degrees in the rear of the vent window. No holes allowed in hood, deck lid, or any panel. May have 2 holes cut in back window for weight screw adjustments. Front grill area must be open for radiator cooling and ducting. A maximum of 2 - one right and one left - brake cooling hoses allowed for brakes in radiator/cooling ducting. No other holes allowed in nose area. 3 Page

All air for brakes or radiator must be pulled from the nose of the car. No air may be drawn from under car for any reason. Two (2) vents allowed in rear window behind driver area for brake cooling and for driver s helmet. All vents from inside of car must pull air in and not vent air. All stock body panels may be gutted. Front and rear tread width: 78 inches Maximum measured at ground level at bottom of tires, Outside to Outside of tire bead. Body over-all maximum measurement for width is 80 inches at any point on the car. Weight adjustments may be made to non-conforming bodies or body panel by Series officials at anytime. Bumpers Stock bumpers, if used, must retain stock appearance. Must be of manufacture type and same material used as OEM. Aftermarket covers maybe used for type and style of body used. No excessive unapproved modifications of any kind. If stock bumper is used, bumper must be affixed to body without protrusions that will create issues on the track (i.e.: hooking other bumpers, etc) Bumpers behind after market noses and tails must be as long as aftermarket cover and attached to the cover. Rear bumpers must be able to withstand a push start by a push-truck. All aftermarket type bumpers must be magnetic steel. Roll Cages/Frames Car must have at least a four-point roll cage constructed of.095 tubing, 1 ¾ diameter. Roll cage must be mounted to frame rails. No offset roll cages. Cage must be minimum 39" halo. All chassis to be constructed of steel including but not limited to tail sections, door bars, rub bars, bumper bars. No aluminum allowed anywhere. No tubing less than.063" shall be used on any other supporting bars anywhere in the car. Gussets required - measuring 3 diagonally and welded where the pipe meets the frame; one per pipe. 4 Page

Roll cage must have at least three door bars with 2 upright supports between bars on drivers side that extend out to door skin and two door bars on the passenger side. Driver's side bars must have 1/8" (11 gauge) steel deflector plate on outside. Roll bar must be located directly behind driver and close to roof of car. Driver s compartment must have complete roll cage padding. Rear support bars may pass through rear firewall and attach to any point of the frame inside the body. X-ing of frame (recommended) permitted. Uni-body cars must be approved by GARS officials. Frames may not be shortened in any way (i.e. early style Monte-Carlo long frames). Roll cage may not be used to reinforce the body, or bumpers. Cars with unsafe, poorly constructed or unapproved roll cages will not be allowed on the track for practice or competition. Any chassis equipped with a stock panhard bar are not allowed. Rear frame must maintain OEM stock mounting locations and brackets for upper, lower trailing arms and front of leaf springs. GM cars top front trailing arms may be no wider than 30-inches at frame mounting measured to the outside. All chassis to be constructed of steel including but not limited to tail sections, door bars, rub bars, bumper bars, etc. A Sonic Tester will be used to randomly check tubing sizes. Also please remember we will be racing on some ½ mile and larger tracks when building this cage. These are MINIMUM specs for the cage assembly. Engine Placement Engine must be centered between chassis and centered on the chassis between the wheels from outside to outside left and right front tires and must be within 1 inch of center. Front spark plug must be with-in 1 inch of the center of the upper and lower front ball joints. Other measurements will be taken and may be approved depending upon the type of chassis you are using. Interior and Drivers Safety Dashboard must be removed and a roll bar dash hoop shall replace it. All interior trim/carpets/plastic/must be removed. 5 Page

Racing type 5-point seat belts (harness) are required. Three (3) inch belt lap and shoulder belt also must be safely attached to the roll cage. A sub strap is also required. No safety belts will be allowed that are older than 3 years. Two or three inch (2 /3 ) shoulder belts are acceptable to run a head with head and neck restraint. Approved racing seat is mandatory (a made for racing aluminum seat and must be mounted on a loop connected to the cage). SFI rated Head and Neck restraints are mandatory. Full face Helmet 2010 must be Snell approved with SA rating. SFI rated one-piece drivers suit flame retardant and clean. SFI rated Flame retardant gloves Mandatory. SFI rated Flame retardant shoes Mandatory. Eye protection will be Mandatory. Five (5) pound Fire Extinguisher will be Mandatory. F ire extinguisher must be securely mounted with metal straps. Fire systems are highly recommended. A driver s side window net is required and must drop down from upper hoop. A master kill switch is mandatory and must be mounted in the center of the cockpit. The switch must be accessible by the driver and/or safety crew from both sides of the car and painted orange. Steering column shaft must be collapsible or have a minimum of two u- joints. Cars must have front and rear firewall between the driver, engine compartment and fuel cell area. Front firewall must be made of steel and resemble OEM firewall the full width and length. Crush panels may be made of aluminum and attach to outer body. Rear firewall must be enclosed with sheet metal. No other material allowed. Floor pan must be made of steel horizontal from side-to-side and from front firewall to back of roll cage. 6 Page

Floor must be flat and all holes must be covered. Floor must remain open as to right side of driver and rear of driver. Drive Shaft tunnel may not be higher than 8 inches from floor panel. Front Suspension Stock OEM type spindles or Howe Racing spindle (Part number: 344GN - R-L) must be used. Spindle must mount in stock location and must be stock appearing. No cutting, buffing, grinding, or changing the spindle in any way. Spindles must have casting numbers and be visible. Spindles must be symmetrical in measurements from Right to Left. The Coleman (GM Midsize 21830) steel hub may be used and is also recommended for use on the Right Front Spindle. No dropped spindles of any type permitted. (i.e. S-10 and others). Any bushings may be used. No Bearings of any kind will be allowed, including cross shafts. No adjustable ball joints. All lower ball joints must be in stock location and fit in stock mounts. Factory Lowers with Tubular Uppers allowed. Brakes Stock OEM type calipers must be used. No Aluminum brake parts or hubs allowed. The use of the Howe Racing single piston caliper (Number: 337 front (2-15/16 piston) or Coleman part number: 21166 is allowed. Single piston calipers only. A brake bias adjuster may be used. Any type of master cylinder/s maybe used. No brake recirculates allowed. Brake rotors must be magnetic steel and must resemble stock rotors. No electric fans or brake blowers allowed. Sway Bar 7 Page

Sway bar must retain factory stock sway bar appearance and must fit in factory type location. Must be 1.25 maximum or smaller. No bars may be mounted over the top of frame. Bars must be magnetic steel. Bars may only be adjusted at frame only. No HEIM Joints, No Spline Bars. Springs must be in original location. Minimum 800 lbs. front springs. No pigtail springs. Springs must set on unaltered lower A-frame pocket. Spring wire maximum diameter: Front.860, Rear.650. Only one spring per corner or wheel allowed. Weight Jacks Weight jacks permitted. One per wheel must mount directly over the spring pocket. Must be approved and use stock location. Templates and measurements will be used to check front suspension mounting points. Shocks The use of a re-buildable tour type shocks will be allowed. Part number: (TBD) Which will be the series preferred shock. Shock must be used as shipped from Manufacturer and no parts maybe changed or modified. All shocks must mount in stock locations. Several parts maybe changed as our shock matrix board will show for asphalt or dirt use. All parts must be on shock matrix board and you have 30 minutes after the race to remove and tear down shock assembly. OR: One steel/ non-adjustable shock allowed per wheel. Maximum allowable cost of shock - $100.00. Any shock determined to have a new price of more than $100 will be subject to $100 claim. No machined body (late model style) smooth or threaded shocks allowed. No bump stops. Travel indicator required. You must use one shock rule or another. You may not combine both rules above. Rear End and Rear Suspension No quick change rear ends. No independent rear ends. Coleman 9-inch or others may be used. Must remain stock configuration and must be made of steel. No aluminum tubes or axles. Must be full floater, spool or fully locked rear end. No Detroit lockers. Rear Control Arms: Stock or aftermarket Stock Replacements. Leaf Springs must be mounted in Stock Locations. 8 Page

Aftermarket rear arms are allowed but must retain factory stock measurements and made of the same types of materials. Must mount in factory type locations and must retain stock configuration. The GARS templates will be used. Rear leaf spring cars will have to retain stock mounts and must fit GARS templates. No rear sway bars allowed. Drive Shaft All drive shafts must be steel. Must have 2 support straps under drive shaft. The first one 4 to 5 inches from the front drive shaft yoke. The second near the rear of the drive shaft. A driver s plate is recommended along side of the drive shaft on the left side and the top in the driver s area. (This may soon be mandatory.) No ball spline type drive shafts allowed. Engines No Turbo Charged, Super Charged, or Fuel Injected engines allowed. Must be naturally aspirated and use a 4412 style carburetor. 364 cubic inch maximum. Steel Rods. Engines over 364 cubic inch will add minimum 100 pounds with steel rods. Engines over 410 cubic inch - please call for information. No part numbers from any part maybe removed. All factory stampings must stay in place. Intake Manifold: GARS will allow a stock automotive cast iron intake with OEM factory stamping and numbers. Stock cast iron or aluminum intakes allowed. Use of GARS spec intake (Part number: TBD) will be allowed. Dual plane intake: Maximum floor to carburetor flange measurement is 4.250 inches. Plenum may be cut where center divider remains. Divider can be no lower than.500 below top of surface to intake. No air gap intakes allowed. A weight penalty for any intake may be added. Cast iron heads only, must be 23 degree, OEM with part numbers, RHS, Dart or World Products Part Numbers 011150, 011150-50, 011250. 011250-50. Steel or stainless steel valves only. Must retain stock stem size. 9 Page

Stamped steel rockers or rollers maybe used. Maximum cost of roller rockers $200.00 - retail value. No shaft rockers maybe used unless factory equipped (mopar). No stud girdles. Maximum valve spring seat pressure is 150 lbs. Stock or aftermarket OEM style block of cast iron will be the only style blocks allowed. Must retain stock appearance. No lightening of engine blocks. No belt timing drives allowed. Only chain style timing chain allowed. Hydraulic or solid cams may be used. No roller cams allowed. Maximum lift allowed is 550. Oil pan must be steel. Wet sump engine required. Accusump is allowed. One oil cooler allowed, which, if mounted in the area of the radiator support, will be allowed. Stock type fuel pump only, no electric fuel pumps allowed. Please call for Information regarding possible use of a Ford or Chevy Crate style engine. Exhaust and Exhaust Manifolds Exhaust manifolds can be stock OEM automotive (No Corvette or truck style manifolds) or mild steel (no stainless) headers. Schoenfeld approved header part number: 195 No coating or cutting allowed. Manifolds must retain factory stock exhaust flange. 2-1/2 exhaust tubing from manifold/collector to exit end. Tubing may be oval shape for clearance. Pipes MAY NOT be connected by equalizer tube or by crossing. Pipes must exit to right side of car in front of right rear wheel. No flex pipe. Exhaust pipes cannot extend outside of body panels. Sound: All cars must be 95 dba or less. Schoenfeld approved muffler part number: 83030 which is mandatory with cars running headers. Highly recommend all other setups. Distributor/Ignition 10 Page

Distributors must be HEI and have coil attached to Distributor. OEM or Aftermarket maybe used. No other ignition box may be used. Must be 12 volt system with 12 volt battery. Standard style battery must be used. No light weight batteries allowed. Batteries must be covered and mounted securely in the trunk or behind the driver s seat. If battery located behind driver s seat, a dry cell type battery in a fireproof sealed metal box will be required. An alternator may be used but must be mounted to front of engine. Carburetor / Fuel Any 2 bbl 4412 style carb maybe used. The new Holley Ultra series may also be used. All carburetors must retain stock out of the box appearance. A 1.25 inch maximum spacer/adapter plate maybe used with straight bores only. All carburetors must meet tour gauges. 14 inch maximum air cleaner with no air box allowed. Air cleaner must draw air from under hood. No rear cowl vents or no ram air. No air intakes in hood allowed. No holes in hood allowed. No covers/shields/plates in front of carburetor under hood allowed. At each event we will have an at-track spec fuel that will be the only fuel allowed in competition. No additives will be allowed to fuel. Samples of fuel may be taken at any time. No cool cans Fuel lines allowed in driver s area, if run through a sealed 1 diameter steel tube. Starter Car must be self starting and must have starter in stock type location. Any type of starter maybe used. Transmission Transmissions may be automatic or standard. Automatics must have a min. of a 10 inch working torque converter and must have an OEM style case (complete). 11 Page

Stick transmissions must have an OEM case (complete) and must use a steel (factory made for racing) bell housing. Stick transmissions must also use a steel flywheel and a clutch of 7.25 inch minimum. No carbon fiber clutches allowed. All manual transmissions must have a conventional style clutch with throw out bearings open. Both styles of transmissions must have at least 2 forward and one reverse gear(s). Transmission coolers not allowed in driver s area. Bert, Brinn or Coleman style transmissions are not allowed. All transmissions must be stock appearing transmissions. Radiator/Pulleys/Water Pumps/Coolant Any type radiator must be located in front of engine and securely fastened. Fuel Cells 10 inches ground clearance minimum. Fuel Cell: Maximum capacity of 22 Gallons Fuel cell must be mounted securely behind rear axle and between frame rails. All fuel cell mounting must be approved by GARS officials. All fuel cells must be in a steel can and either have a complete 1/8 steel can or 1/8 inch steel plates around all 4 sides (front, sides, rear) as long, high, and wide as the cell. Top will be made of 18 gauge steel with 4 straps 2 both ways on top of the cell. No part of cell or brackets will be made of any material other than steel. Fuel cells must have a bladder that is FIAAPPROVED with foam. A rear fuel cell protector bar is mandatory from frame to bottom of cell at rear of car. 12 Page

An Oberg fuel shut off is allowed and must all have a fuel shut off valve located within 12 inches of the fuel cell. Check-balls or fuel shut off flaps mandatory. Wheels/Tires This series will run a spec 8 tire (announced in February) 8" maximum steel racing wheels only. Wheel mounted bleeders only. No wheel mounted fans or cooling devices allowed. 18 pound minimum wheel weight. All cars must have 1/2 studs and 1 lug nuts minimum. Stud must pass all the way through the lug nut. All cars must run on approved tire for the events listed. No other tires maybe used without official approval. No tire treatments of ANY KIND allowed. Including but not limited to, Softeners, Heating, Cooling, Sipping, Grooving or any other types of tire treatments. Other Electronics No traction control allowed. No computers allowed. No electronic dash allowed. One camera facing forward out front windshield may be used during competition. If you are suspected of using traction control or any type of electronic enhancement your participation in any Great American Racing Series event will be at the sole discretion of the appointed head technical official. Non - compliance with the specifications outlined herein may subject the participants (owner/driver) to immediate disqualification, loss of monies and/or points earned at the event, suspension and further actions at the complete discretion of the GARS officials. Furthermore, the owner may be fined and all non-complying components seized by the series technical inspector. Owner/driver must provide tools to remove part. All tear downs must be done with-in one hour of race or may face a disqualification.
