Pat. pend. Pat. pend. Panda Futura ongratulations on purchasing the Panda Futura from R82. We are convinced, that it will fully live up to your expectations. The Panda seat is available in two different versions: Panda Standard and Panda ctive. The Standard seat is primarily for children with the need of support around the arms and shoulders. The ctive seat is for the active children who need more freedom of movement. On both versions, the back can be reclined independently from the seat base. The many adjustment possibilities and wide range of accessories make it possible to adjust the seat to an individual child s needs for comfort and support. The Panda is for both indoor and outdoor use, dependent on which frame you use. Safety The Panda Futura has earned the E-mark. This certifies that it meets all relevant European safety requirements. Remove the E-mark, when rebuilding the product or when using other than original R82 spare parts and fittings. The Panda Futura is constructed for one user only. Do not place more than one user in the Panda Futura. Never leave your child unattended in this product. Ensure permanent supervision by an adult. Incorrect use of the Panda Futura, may cause serious injury on the user. Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. The latest version of the manual is always available online: www.r82. com uarantee The Panda Futura is guaranteed for 12 months. The guarantee is only valid when using original R82 spare parts and fittings. ll special adjustments must be made by R82. 4
Seats The Panda Futura seat is available as () STNDRD in 5 sizes and as () TIVE in 4 sizes. The TIVE seat is shaped to allow greater upper extremity movement and is ideal for more active children. The STNDRD seat is shaped with sides, which give the child more support and less movement possibilities. child s support requirements will determine which model is most appropriate. oth models are prepared for the large range of accessories. Using the lever ) Turn clockwise to tighten the handle. ) To adjust the lever position without loosening its grip, pull the handle straight out. 5
asspring adjustment Some of the frames for Panda Futura are equipped with a gasspring to regulate the angle. fter a period the gasspring might need to be adjusted. The adjustment is only neccessery when: - the gasspring releases itself - the gasspring can not be released at all If the gasspring releases itself; loosen the nut () with a 17 mm wrench. Then turn the piston rod () counter clockwise to tighten. Fasten the nut () again. If the gasspring can not be released at all; loosen the nut () with a 17 mm wrench. Then turn the piston rod () clockwise to loosen. Fasten the nut () again. Do not expose the gasspring to pressure, high temperatures or perforation. 6
Mounting / dismounting the seat To mount the seat: Place the seat in the adapter and push it all the way back, until it clicks into place. Do not use the first hole it clicks into. This is just the safety hole which will catch the seat if the knob accidently should pop out of its right hole. To dismount the seat: Pull out the knob(), pull the seat forward, and lift at the same time. It is not possible to use the seat size 4 on the wheelchair frame. 7
ack recline Loosen the handle () to recline the back. Firmly grab the back of the chair before loosening the handle to prevent sudden recline. 1 ack extension 1) Height adjustment of the back extension. 2) Mounting a head support and back extension together. Push brace / Push handles Panda Standard: The fittings are mounted on the back using the llen key (). The push brace/push handles are mounted in their fittings on the seat back. Fasten with the handle (). Panda ctive: Start by mounting the fittings in the back rest as shown (). Place the handles in the fittings and tighten carefully (). 10
Swing away shoulder supports ) The shoulder supports are mounted on the head support bar. Mount the head support bar in the fitting on the seat back. ) Pull out the release knob to swing the shoulder supports up and away. ) Use a llen key to heightadjust the shoulder supports. D) Use a llen key to depthadjust the shoulder supports. The carer should check and oil the swing away parts occationally - at least every 3 months. D 11
Side supports Remove the back cushion and mount the side supports in the slots in the seat back (). Swing-away side supports Remove the back cushion and mount the swingaway side supports in the slots () in the seat back. The swing-away side supports are released by pressing the red button () and then swing away. The carer should check and oil the swing away parts occationally - at least every 3 months. 12
Swing-away knee supports ttach the fitting () beneath the seat with the 4 mm llen key. Insert the knee supports in the fitting and fasten with the 6 mm llen key () * Loosen the screws () with the 6 mm llen key to adjust the angle of the knee support bars. * Loosen the screws () or (D) with the 4 and 6 mm llen keys to adjust the depth. * The knee supports themselves are angle and sideway adjustable (E) using the 4 mm llen key. * Push down the red button on the fitting (F) to swing away the knee supports. The carer should check and oil the swing away parts occationally - at least every 3 months. F D E Seat extension The seat extension is inserted in the adapter under the seat and placed in the wanted position. Fasten with the handle (). 13
Footrest/ Footboard D ) Use the clamping handle to mount and depth adjust the footrest bar. ) Use the handle to angle the footrest bar. ) Use a 6 mm llen key to height adjust the footrest. E F Pommel ) The mounting hardware is attached with a 6 mm llen key. ) The pommel is mounted in the hardware and is adjustable in depth by using the handle. 14
Mounting fixlocks Fixlocks can be installed on the Panda seat to easily and quickly fasten and adjust the strap tiedowns. The hip belts (85427-x), abduction belts (89112-x and 89108-x), 5-point belts (89665-x), chest harness (85428-x) and belt/cross vests (89625-x) can then be fastened quickly and in the correct position. n llen key is required to install them. Mounting on the back: * Six fixlocks (D) are attached to the backrest with llen screws. The upper two fixlocks can also be set to a lower position so that the strap tie-downs can be guided through the cushions (after they have been cut). D D Standard * The belt/cross vest s strap tie-downs and the 5-point belt can then be guided through the slits and fastened with the fixlocks. Note: The strap tie-downs may be shortened to the correct length after installation (please ensure the ends are edge-melted). ctive D Mounting on the seat: * On each side of the seat one synthetic adapter block () is installed with two llen screws. * One fixlock () is installed on both sides of the seat with an llen screw for the hip belts and the abduction belt (abduction model (89108). * If the T-model abduction belt (89112) is installed, an additional fixlock () is added on both sides of the bottom. They are installed with an llen screw (set ). * If the 5-point belt is used, two additional fixlocks () are installed on the upper side of the backrest. 15

Vest and cross vest Mount the fixlocks in the back. See page 15. The vest and cross vest can be opened and closed by using the buckles and the zipper. Follow the instructions below, with help from page 17. * Mount the shoulder straps in the belt fittings on the upper back. () * Mount the upper straps in the sides in the belt fittings on the back (). * Mount the lower straps in the sidest in the belt fittings on the lower back (). Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. Sternum belt Mount the fixlocks in the back. See page 15. The sternum belt can be opened and closed by using the buckles. Follow the instructions below, with help from page 17. * Mount the shoulder straps in the belt fittings on the upper back. () * Mount the upper straps in the sides in the belt fittings on the back (). * Mount the lower straps in the sidest in the belt fittings on the lower back (). Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. 18
5-point belt Mount the fixlocks in the back. See page 15. The 5-point belt can be opened and closed by using the buckles. Follow the instructions below, with help from page 17. D * Mount the straps (E) in the belt fittings in the seat or in the belt fittings (D). * Place the user in the chair, sitting on the "triangle" (F). * The straps (D) in the sides are led through the slides in the seat and mounted in the belt fittings in the seat. * The shoulder straps are mounted in the belt fittings on the upper back (). Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. F E hest belt Mount the fixlocks in the back. See page 15. The chest belt can be opened and closed by using the buckles. Follow the instructions below, with help from page 17. * Mount the shoulder straps in the belt fittings on the upper back. () * Mount the straps in the sides in the belt fittings on the back (). Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. 19
Hip belt Mount the fixlocks in the seat. See page 15. The hip belt can be opened and closed by using the buckles. D Follow the instructions below, with help from page 17. * Mount the straps in the belt fittings under the seat (D). Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. Y-hip strap Mount the fixlocks in the seat. See page 15. D The Y-hip strap can be opened and closed by using the buckles. E Follow the instructions below, with help from page 17. * Mount the straps in the belt fittings under the seat (D). * Mount the straps (E) in the front slides in the seat. E and D can be exchanged. Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. 20
Pelvis harness Mount the fixlocks in the seat. See page 15. Follow the instructions below, with help from page 17. * Open the buckles (). * Mount the straps (D) in the belt fittings under the seat (D). * Place the user on the harness and close the buckles () over the thighs. D Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. nkle straps The ankle straps can be opened and closed by using the velcro or the buckle (). Follow the instructions below for mounting. * Remove the buckles (). * Pull the straps () through the slides in the foot plates. * Mount the buckles () again and make sure the straps do not slide off. Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. 21
Foot straps The foot straps can be opened and closed by using the velcro or the buckle (). Follow the instructions below for mounting. * Open the straps and pull them () through the slides in the foot plates. * lose the straps around the users foot. Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. Hand cuff The hand cuff can be opened and closed by using the buckle (). Follow the instructions below for mounting. * Mount the hand cuff around the users wrist. * Mount the strap () around the arm rest bar. Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. 22
H-belt Mount the fixlocks in the back. See page 15. The H-belt can be opened and closed by using the buckle. Follow the instructions below, with help from page 17. * Mount the shoulder straps in the belt fittings on the upper back. () * Mount the straps in the sides in the belt fittings on the back (). Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. Thermo bag * Place the thermo bag in the chair. * Unzip the bag in the sides and place the user in it. * Zip it again. There is velcro slides in the sides of the bag, which make it possible also to use a hip belt. Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. 23
Rain cape with hood The raincape goes over the back of the seat. round the users body and under the footrest. In this way it also covers the chair. Take care that all the fixations and adjustments are placed and fitted correctly and check it on a regular basis. 24
Transportation in motor vehicles 1/6 The Panda Futura seat on either a wheelchair or pushchair frame, is approved for transporting children in motor vehicles, when the chair is placed in forward-facing position. The approval is not valid on special made wheelchairs. The approval is only valid for the Standard seats size 1, 2, 2½ and 3. Follow the below to ensure the safety: The child should transfer to the vehicle seat and use the vehicle-installed restraint system whenever it is feasible. The chair has been dynamically tested accoridng to NSI/RESN W/Vol. 1 and ISO 7176/19-2001. The chair must be placed in forward-facing position, when used as a seat in a motor vehicle. Use an approved 4-point straptype tiedown system. Restraints should not be held away from body by chair components such as armrests or wheels Use an approved 3-point belt in the chair. Restraints should not be held away from the body by chair components such as armrests or wheels. The front wheels needs to be turned away under the frame before fixation. ll accessories has to be removed from the chair and secured separately in the vehicle. ccessories which can not be removed, has to be secured to the wheelchair but positioned away from the child with energyabsorbing padding placed between the accessories and the child. lterations or substitutions should not be made to the wheelchair without consulting the dealer. The chair should be inspected by the dealer before reuse following involvement in any type of vehicle impact. 25
Transportation in motor vehicles 2/6 Secure the Panda Seat on a wheelcair frame in the vehicle: * Mount the 4-point strap-type tiedown system in the vehicle. (Follow the manufacture instructions) * Secure the chair to the vehicle, using the 4- point strap-type tiedown system. Secure the chair at the marks in the front () and on the back () of the frame. Use a 4-point strap-type tiedown system approved according to ISO 10542-2. The chair is approved for transportation in a wheelchairframe at max load 22 kg. See page 32 for placing the user in the chair. Secure the Panda Seat on a puchchair frame in the vehicle: * Mount the 4-point strap-type tiedown system in the vehicle. (Follow the manufacture instructions) * Mount the two fittings () with the symbol () on both sides of the pushchair frame. * Secure the chair to the vehicle, using the 4- point strap-type tiedown system. Use either a hook or a strap in the fitting (). Use a 4-point strap-type tiedown system approved according to ISO 10542-2. See page 32 for placing the user in the chair. 26
Transportation in motor vehicles 3/6 ombi Frame is dynamically tested according to ISO 7176-19. The following instructions must be followed to maintain the safety. The approval is not valid on special made chairs. ombi Frame is approved for transporting the user in motor vehicles at a max load/ user weight of 35 kg. The user should transfer to the vehicle seat and use the vehicle-installed restraint system whenever possible. The ombi Frame must be placed in a forward-facing position, when used as a seat in a motor vehicle. Use an approved 4-point strap-type tiedown system acoording to ISO 10542-2. Restraints should not be held away from body by wheelchair components such as armrests or wheels Use an approved 3-point belt according to ISO 10542-1 in the wheelchair. Restraints should not be held away from the body by wheelchair components such as armrests or wheels. It is not enough ONLY to use a hipbelt. ll accessories must be removed from the wheelchair and secured separately in the vehicle. ccessories which can not be removed, must be secured to the wheelchair but positioned away from the user with energy-absorbing padding placed between the accessories and the user. lterations or substitutions should not be made to the wheelchair without consulting the dealer. The following instructions on how to prepare the seat and chair, must be carried through before transportation. 27
2 x 2 x Transportation in motor vehicles 4/6 Placing the ombi Frame in the vehicle: 1. y use of a 4-point strap system, the frame is secured in the vehicle. (Follow instructions from the manufacturer of the vehicle). 4-point strap-system, approved according to ISO 10542-2, must be used. Size 1+2 Size 3+4 D On the rear of the frame, fitting : 2. * Remove the plugs. * Place the fittings () on the rear bar. * Mount with the enclosed 6 mm long bolts and nuts. (Note the placement for the different sizes.) On the front of the frame, fitting : 3. * Remove the plugs (D) in the side rails. * Slide the thread block into the side rails. * Mount the plugs (D) again. * Place the fitting () over the thread block. * Tighten with the enclosed 6 mm. bolts and washer through the holes in the thread block. It is important that the 'legs' on the fitting () is placed in the holes in the side rails. The fitting () can be turned upwards (as on the drawing) or downwards if you wish. 4. The wheelchair is fastened in the vehicle by use of a 4-point strap-system. Either a hook or a strap can be used for fastening the fittings () and (). Stick the enclosed stickers () on the four fittings () and (). See page 32 for placing the user in the chair. 28
Transportation in motor vehicles 5/6 The fitting MUST be mounted for transportation. ombi Frame size 3 with Panda Futura size 4, the fitting is placed above the back brace. Skip step 1 and 2, and go to step 3 on next page. 1. Remove the push brace by loosening the 2 bolts () on each side. * Pull up the push brace. 2. Remove the top back brace by loosening the 4 screws (). * Tilt back the vertical bars. * Slide up the back brace. hoose your combination on the left according to size on frame and size on seat? ombi Frame size 1 with Panda Futura seat size 2½ 3. Make sure that the seat back and the back of the frame runs parallel in a vertical position. * Mount fitting () on the Panda Futura back, as shown on the drawing. * Mount fitting () on the ombi Frame profile. * The fingerscrew () is screwed into the fitting (). Fasten the nut at the end of the fingerscrew. * The brace mounted on the fitting () is brought over the fingerscrew (). * Tighten the fingerscrew. * The fitting () can be loosened for final adjustments. Further the belt webbing should not be twisted when in use. * We recommend to maintain a 90 angle of the seat and back and tilt the complete seat unit 18 to the back. Maintenance The Panda Futura cushion is removable and can be washed at max. 30 o. It is important to keep the frame clean to maintain the validity of the chair. The carer should check and refill the tyres for air at least once a month. ir pressure: High-low outdoor frame. Front: 35 PSI/250 kpa, rear: 40 PSI/2,5 bar Wheelchair frame. Wheels: 110 PSI/250 kpa Pushchair frame. Front: 36 PSI/2,5 bar, rear: 36 PSI/2,5 bar The carer should check and oil the swing away parts occationally - at least every 6 months. Use a dry cloth, on a weekly basis, to wipe of filth and dirt from the wheels. Do not use any cleaning materials containing chlorine or methylated spirit. The Panda Futura has to be checked and tightened by a qualified technician at least every 6 months to avoid failures. If expanding brakes are mounted, the wires have to be tight, to make the brakes work properly. qualified technician has to check and tighten the brakes at least every 6 months. Regularly the spokes have to be adjusted by an expert. For instance by your local bicycle repairman. Do not expose the gasspring to pressure, high temperatures or perforation. djustments which are not described in this manual, must only be made by authorized R82 personnel. 33
