Retighten the u-bolts to at least 200 foot pounds of torque. Be careful not to put an end thrust or side load on the bearings (See Figure 4-2). 4-7.2 This adjustment will need to be made twice during the first 200 acres of operation. After the initial adjustments have been made, inspect the packer routinely and adjust rollers when necessary. 4-8 ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND REFLECTORS Figure 4-2 Rollers 4-8.1 All Wing Packers are designed to meet current industry location and visibility standards for conspicuity reflectors (See Figure 3-7). 4-8

4-9 TRANSPORTING THE PACKER 4-9.1 Prior to Transport a. Utilize transport chains. The transport chain should be adjusted so that the tongue of the towed machine will not touch the ground in case of loss of the hitch pin. b. Place SMV emblem into the holder. c. Insect the two red reflectors on the rear corners of the machine and the amber reflector on the front left corner of the machine. Be sure all three are in place and free from dust and other obstructions. d. Make sure light harness is properly connected and all the lights are visible and working. e. Secure the tractor drawbar so that it will not swing during transport. Figure 4-3 Lockup Pin for Transport 4-9.2 Procedure For Transporting a. After the packer has been properly hitched to the tractor: b. Fold wings to transport position. c. Raise the machine and install pin in cylinder lug to lock the machine in the raised position (See Figure 4-3). 4-9.3 Returning To Work Position After Transporting a. Extend the transport cylinder to relieve the pressure on the transport pin. b. Remove the pin and relocate in the axle lift hole (See Figure 4-4). c. Unfold wings and lower the machine. The unit is now in the working position. 4-9.4 Transport And Wing Cylinders a. Always be sure the tractor hydraulic oil reservoir is filled to the proper level. WARNING STAY CLEAR OF FOLDING WINGS WHEN BEING RAISED OR LOWERED, OR WHEN IN AN ELEVATED POSITION. BE CERTAIN THE HYDRAULIC SYS- TEM IS FULLY CHARGED WITH OIL BEFORE USE. AIR IN THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM CAN RESULT IN UNCON- TROLLED MOVEMENT OF THE WINGS DURING RAISING AND LOWERING OP- ERATION. 4-9.5 Cylinders have to be purged of air before initial operation or when oil has been drained from the cylinders or hoses. Disconnect the cylinders at the rod end. Cycle the cylinders by fully extending and retracting the rod several times. Reconnect the cylinders. Figure 4-4 Axle Lift Adjust for Transport 4-9

4-10 GENERAL MAINTENANCE 4-10.1 Beginning of Day a. Perform daily lubrication. b. Check and adjust tire pressure. c. Check hydraulic hose routing to be sure hoses are not kinked, twisted or rubbing sharp edges. d. Check wheel bolt torque: 85-90 ft-lb (115-122 N m) e. Tighten any loose hardware (See Table 2-1). 4-10.2 End of Day a. Clean dirt and residue from implement. b. Check for and repair any equipment damage. c. Check for and correct hydraulic hose and fitting leaks. d. If implement will be unused for period of time, coat all cylinder rods and soil-contacting surfaces with a suitable rust preventative. 4-10.3 Beginning of Season a. Perform end-of-season lubrication. b. Check and adjust tire pressure. c. Tighten all loose bolts and U-bolts. 4-10.4 End of Season a. Clean all dirt and residue from implement. b. Check for cracked or broken rollers. Replace as required. c. Inspect all hydraulic fittings and hoses for leaks, cracks and abrasions. Repair or replace as required. Use thread sealant on all fittings. d. Clean and paint all areas where paint is chipped or worn away. e. Replace missing or damaged decals. f. Coat rollers with a rust preventative. g. Lubricate implement. h. Check and adjust tire pressure. i. Store implement in a clean, dry area away from livestock. j. Lower implement with wooden blocks under chisels and disc cutters to keep off concrete floors or bare ground. k. Park implement in level position so all chisels and cutters support weight of implement. l. If parked in raised position, engage frame lockup and securely block wheels. 4-11 LUBRICATION 4-11.1 Lubricate the gang bearings every 40 hours with a high quality SAE lithium base multi-purpose grease. Do not over grease. Excess grease will attract contaminates (See Figure 4-5). 4-11.2 Lubricate wing pivot points and ground wheel axle pivot points. 4-11.3 Repack ground wheel bearings once a year.
