Norms and standards ASTM D 56 ASTM D 93; DIN EN ISO 2719; IP 34 DIN EN ISO 13736; IP170 DIN 51755 Application The BARTEC BENKE Flash Point Process Analyzer (FPA-4) is a continuously measuring analyzer, suited to measure the flash point (FP) of a liquid phase. It correlates with laboratory measurements. The analyzer has to be calibrated with a sample of known flash point temperature. In case of multi stream use, the calibration needs to be carried out for each single stream. The flash point temperature is defined as the lowest temperature at which application of an ignition source causes the vapors of a specimen of the sample to ignite under specified conditions of test. establishing ignition specification for fuels: - Automotive diesel fuel for internal combustion engines - heating oil determination of safety limitations (fire hazards/ explosion risk) for storage and handling detection of contamination by light ends monitoring of stripping processes Measurement principle The FP analysis is based on a catalytic oxidation. The FPA-4 is first calibrated by means of a sample with known FP. The sample is mixed with preheated combustion air, both having constant flow rates, and continuously fed to the measurement cell. It is then heated up until the sample temperature in the cell reaches the known FP. At this time, the detector signal level is registered, as it corresponds to the FP of the known sample. In routine operation, the sample is heated up until the detector signal level reaches the value registered during the calibration procedure. Then the sample temperature is measured in the cell, as it represents the FP of the sample under investigation. Excess sample passes to drain (overflow). The sample vapor is vented to atmosphere. The detector signal controls the incoming sample temperature. The complete analysis procedure is controlled, monitored and visualized by the Process Analyzer Control System (PACS) software. It offers a user interface for local analyzer operation and for the regeneration function of the detector. The FP value is transferred via the standard analog 4-20 ma output. A digital output signal will be generated (come read). Additional outputs and a MODBUS interface, which allows direct control of the analyzer from the DCS, are available as an option. If remote access is demanded, the FPA analyzer can be equipped with a remote access interface (e.g. Modem, ISDN) for service and maintenance purposes. Status / 26.07.2006 page 2 / 8
